Why are some states trying to rewrite history?

They fully understood that there were other kids working in fields and factories who would be more than happy to take their place in school if they falter. That is what is sadly(?) lacking in our society. Instead of sending the ten year old that doesn't do their homework to a rice paddy, we counsel them. Maybe if we chained them to a sewing machine for Nike, we could convince others to study for their tests.

Though there may be some attempts at bringing our school systems up to par the changes are not happening fast enough and while people try to figure it out our children are the ones who will suffer. On the other hand though if our kids can't make the grades, no worries they will just lower the standards. That should fix the problem right?
