I really don’t know who might come out ahead on this.
I think Vance will come off as angry and misogynistic. Walz will be your fun uncle - but will he be capable of making coherent arguments and can he keep his cool?
We’ll see.

JD Vance isn't readyThe first-term senator doesn't have nearly the experience necessary to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, hope to use Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate to bolster their respective running mates’ chances in November. Facing a yawning favorability gap with Walz, Vance is readying via both traditional mock debates — with Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., standing in for Walz — and the constant back-and-forth Vance keeps up with reporters on the trail. But as vice president, Vance would have to be ready for one main task: assuming the presidency. It is a duty that nine vice presidents before him have had to fulfill. It is also a possibility we need to discuss given that if Donald Trump returns to the White House, he would be the oldest person ever sworn in as president. Unfortunately, Vance is in no way ready to step in should Trump be no longer able to function as president. It’s true that the vice presidency itself was originally something of an afterthought for the country’s founders. They tasked the vice president with presiding over the Senate only to give the role something concrete to do besides be a backup executive. But Article II, which supposedly lays out what happens if a vacancy occurs in the presidency, isn’t crystal clear: It says only “In Case of the Removal of the President from Office, or of his Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Powers and Duties of the said Office, the Same shall devolve on the Vice President.” Rest of article here: JD Vance isn't ready

I thought the moderators weren’t going to fact check - they are. Vance is a little pissy about it.

Isn't that cute. Vance is wearing a red tie just like his cult leader.

I’ll have to say both candidates are being fairly polite and presidential.
Unlike Trump in the last debate.

Did Vance really say trump saved Obamacare/AcCA? Not sure, stopped watching at 10. Did hear the part where Vance kept calling the Springfield Haitians illegal immigrants. They’re legal.

They are black. They are poisoning the character of the country as a result. Doesn’t matter to MAGAites if they are legal. They don’t want them here. Wouldn’t hear a peep if they were fgg re on scandanavia

I fell asleep during the pre-debate pundits discussions. sounds like I missed a good one. I saw a clip this am about the non-answer re: 2020 election.

I find it sad that there is surprise that the debate was fairly civilized. Trump has really messed up our country. (He reminds me of the monkeys that throw their own poop at anyone who walks by their cage.)

In theater, a director can position an actor upstage, away from the audience, so that all the other actors turn towards them which directs audience attention to focus on that person. That is the literal definition of upstaging. But it is also a term used when an actor is doing things to draw audience attention to themselves when that attention should be elsewhere. Newer actors, especially children, can do it inadvertently. Or it can be done intentionally by egotistical actors. Like was done last night.

Farah Stockman, a NYT editorial board member, said of Vance's performance last night “Vance did an excellent job of impersonating a decent man.”

In my view, Vance won on presentation and Walz won on substance.

But Vance was just presenting trumps falsehoods. The biggest were that trump won 2020 and saved Obama care.

Farah Stockman, a NYT editorial board member, said of Vance's performance last night “Vance did an excellent job of impersonating a decent man.” That’s funny- when the debate started last night and Vance seemed almost reasonable and decent I asked my husband’who is this guy? This is not the loud mouthed, mean guy I see at his rallies. ‘

The unsettling idea of trump winning the election is I don't see trump alive by the end of his term. trump seems to be deteriorating/declining before our eyes. That would mean vance would then be president until at least the end of trump's term.

Not sure Vance has the ability to grab the Republican Party by the short 'n curlies like Trump has.
