I was surprised at Biden’s energy. Apparently Republicans thought he talked too fast - and was too bipartisan, which is rich, coming from the current GOP.
Marge and her MAGA buds got some heckles in but I thought Biden countered those pretty well.
Looked like the GOP came up on the wrong side of a lot of issues when they sat in their seats and did not applaud for strengthening Obamacare, protecting abortion rights, border security, tax breaks for the middle class - things most Americans want.
Didn’t see the Republican response, so I don’t know how that went.

Apparently that POS website Truth Social website crashed even before Biden entered the chamber so Trump wasn’t able to post his running critique of the speech as he had originally planned.

I did not see the entire speech, but I think I saw at least 3/4. I thought he did very well. Yes, he spoke too fast for part of it, but it was cohesive, and he pretty much shamed republicans about funding the border bill and staffing up the relevant government positions to process potential refugees through the system faster. He said that refugees pay approximately $8,000 each for help getting across the border. He said if the time they have in the US is shortened from 6 years to 6 months, they won't find the cost worth the effort/risk and the number of people willing to come illegally is going to fall.
One thing I did not like was he said he was not going to allow any changes to Medicare. Idk how it stays solvent if we don't raise the eligibility age and we don't increase the taxes (He promised no new taxes too). Personally, I am against raising the eligibility age, but I do believe we should increase the SS tax in some form. Raise the wage base, raise the taxes pd by employee and employer or both. We need to stop pushing the cost of the fix off on the next generation and start dealing with the issue now.
I watched part of the Republican Rebuttal. I did not like the woman, she smacked of superiority to me. Too much of the "Good Obedient little wife and mother" even though she is a senator and apparently a lawyer. Being a mom has always been important to me too, but it is not my whole identity. I couldn't watch the entire thing. Apparently even Republican's agreed with me as they said it was destined to be a SNL Skit.

The Republicans are shook because Biden didn't falter like an old man. You know, like Trump's frequent gaffes.

On the economy, Britt portrayed Biden as out of touch and insulated from the concerns of the average American over affordability and the cost of living.
“Let’s be honest, it’s been a minute since Joe Biden pumped gas, ran a carpool or even pushed a grocery cart,” Britt said. link Is this really an issue the GOP wants to highlight with the Republican presumptive nominee being who he is?

Truly a silly performance, and well deserving of spoof treatment.

George Santos showed up for the SOTU last night, telling everyone he’s running for office again.
Still waiting for his trial to start, but lately that doesn’t seem to be an impediment to GOPers running for office.

Yeah, you can almost hear the teacher (who never made it past high-school drama class himself) urging, "Come on! Do it breathier. Really short pauses will really hit home, and pretend like you're ready to cry at any moment. There you go. Emote!"

I'm a born-and-raised Masshole, and all of my female peers (I hold a BSc, Engineering) share my opinion that we are equal members of society insomuch as our employment contributions to society. (we'll leave complete equality as a discussion for another day...) I'm horrified to share that a few of these ladies that originally came from red states still vote Republican here in MA. I actually unfollowed all of them after they weren't willing to discuss my "why?" questions in 2016.

Read this in a fact checking article. Thought it fits well with the voice. Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama made few specific assertions of fact during her official Republican response to Biden’s address. link

Katie Britt’s kitchen was a bleak stand-in for a chilling conservative visionA carefully crafted domestic diorama to distract from her party's record. It’s no accident that Alabama Sen. Katie Britt issued the Republican Party’s response to the State of the Union address from her kitchen table, since the kitchen is precisely where the GOP would prefer we women spend most of our lives. Ideally, Britt would have been canning beans or kneading bread with a baby on her hip at the same time, but the related racket would likely have made her strained stage-whispers about murderous immigrants difficult to hear. This remarkable tableau was punctuated by the family portrait Britt shared on social media afterwards, captioned: “To the American people: Our future starts around kitchen tables just like this. With moms and dads just like you.” “Just like this” is a curious way to describe Britt’s kitchen, which is unlike any I’ve ever cooked in. No fridge plastered with kids’ drawings or chore charts. No counters strewn with mail and sunglasses and mugs. No crumb-filled toaster or gunky microwave. Nary a ceramic rooster or a cow-shaped cookie jar in sight. Not even a chalkboard with “live, laugh, love” painted in crisp white script. Just a pristine, greige showroom for conservative conformity. Perhaps it is unkind to critique a woman’s kitchen — we get enough guff from all sides for anything and everything, from the way we look to the way we live. But the setting of Britt’s speech was as important as its substance. And as long as Britt is presenting herself as the pained face of a GOP committed to ensuring that no woman steps beyond the threshold of her own home, except to carry water for the party’s power-hungry patriarchs, her kitchen is worth talking about. Rest of article here: Katie Britt’s kitchen was a bleak stand-in for a chilling conservative vision

How Republicans told on themselves during the State of the UnionThe state of our union Perhaps the most revealing part about Thursday night, at least when it comes to members of the Republican Party, was what they refused to stand for. And I mean that literally. Traditionally, members of an opposing party will remain seated when they disagree with the president, and stand up — or at least clap — on matters of bipartisan consensus. But on Thursday night, many Republicans refused to stand when President Joe Biden celebrated even the most fundamental American values and accomplishments. House Speaker Mike Johnson was a particularly awkward example of this, as he grimaced in his chair through the majority of the speech. Johnson and his peers refused to stand to celebrate job growth, plummeting inflation, or Biden’s pledge to buy American goods and products. They didn’t stand up to support literacy or increased access to preschool. They didn’t stand in support of removing lead pipes for clean drinking water, ending cancer or protecting our troops. They refused to stand for IVF, even though most claim they now support it. They refused to stand up against fentanyl traffickers. Those should all be no-brainers. Unbelievably, Republicans didn’t even stand in defense of democracy — either here at home, or around the world — and they refused to stand up for NATO, the alliance that has kept the world safe for 75 years. Rest of article here: How Republicans told on themselves during the State of the Union

From your linked article: “When I first took office, I did something different,” Britt said. “I traveled to the Del Rio sector of Texas, where I spoke to a woman who shared her story with me. “ She had been sex trafficked by the cartels starting at age 12. She told me not just that she was raped every day, but how many times a day she was raped.” Woman or child? Kate Britt has only been in office since 2023.

Britt did meet the woman recently - but that woman is an activist who's been telling her story to EVERYONE since it occurred. Britt made it sound like the woman was sitting on the border and *just* confided in her seconds after it happened. Also, this happened in Mexico, not on the border as Britt claimed. Twitter was merciless on Britt's performance. Lots of people surprised her cross didn't burst into flames with the lies she uttered . And "Bush" was trending, so 90k+ heard the message that this story happened under him and not Biden.
