Giuliani files for bankruptcy after staggering $148M verdict

Rudy Giuliani filed for bankruptcy Thursday, days after a jury ordered him to pay a staggering $148 million to two ex-Georgia election workers Giuliani baselessly accused of committing fraud in the 2020 election.

Giuliani’s Chapter 11 petition, filed in U.S. bankruptcy court in New York, lists between $1 million and $10 million in assets and between $100 million and $500 million in liabilities, the filing shows.

For months, the former New York City mayor has appeared to experience a cash crunch as he defended against increasing legal troubles in part for spearheading former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in court.

But the bankruptcy filing was spurred by a jury’s verdict last week ordering him to pay about $148 million to former Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss following a four-day civil defamation trial.

Giuliani vowed to appeal the verdict, calling the amount “absurd.” But at Freeman and Moss’s request, the judge on Wednesday ordered the judgment be immediately enforced.

the ruling in this case is terrible for Giuliani.

his BEST CASE is that he dies penniless, but a free man.

his WORST CASE is that he ends up in jail, and dies THERE. penniless.

he should really take a minute to choose consciously.

i should probably clarify what i said earlier.

the ruling i referred to is that his grounds for appeal are secured by a $148M bond. the bond would have to be secured against at least 10% of his assets, which he lists as $1-10M. so, unless he is LYING to the bankruptcy court, he does not have sufficient assets to post bond. therefore he cannot appeal. therefore, he has to start REMITTING ON THE JUDGMENT IMMEDIATELY.

if you didn't get that, reading it the first time, read it again.

the fact that he is still out there with exposure is an additional problem for him. things are getting WORSE.

this is what i mean by it being terrible for him.
terrible doesn't describe is situation well enough.
there is no word to describe it. it is so far beyond dismal that words fail me.

I think the problem is that people tied themselves to the Trump clown car in the hopes that it would rocket them to fame and fortune. Some were smart enough to bail during his first term (Christie), for some it took J6 (Ivanka, Jared, Barr), some actually had to get indicted to cut ties, but for some, like Guliani, they’re in too far at this point. I don’t this he can admit the Big Lie was a lie. And I think he’s also hoping the Trump minions will financially help him out, too.

Maybe Rudi did some really illegal stuff for Trump and if he flips he will have to go to jail. Maybe he is thinking that if he stays loyal and Trump wins he will get some reprieve.

in other words, what i am saying is that it MAY be true that Rudy got screwed.  but to say that the election workers did NOT get screwed is.......i dunno- racist, i guess?  it is unfathomable to me.

the way we normally do this stuff is to try stuff in court, not by MAGA vigilante.
if Rudi has the goods on them, he should bring suit against THEM.

If Rudi had brought a fraction of the proof he claimed to have into a court filing they may have a leg to stand on. But all Rudi did was having endless press conferences claiming to have proof. Where was it when they filed the dozens of lawsuits? Why wasn’t any of it in the initial filing?

the theory was that any evidence he brought would either work against Trump or himself in his many other outstanding cases.

of course, he could plea out and avoid all of this.  but that would no doubt involve turning witness against Trump.

so, this boils down to fealty, i think.

Rudi is following the Trump whisper and intimidation campaign tactics that used to work, but I knew would start failing from overuse. He has nothing, but he is now like Trump. He doesn't have the cojones to admit he lied.

The House Judiciary Committee was one of the two committees Hunter was to be questioned in front of and in private. The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is Jim Jordan.
