Republican in the U.S. Congress are a joke. They want to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas but for months the Republicans have not given Mayorkas the tools to do his job out of fear of trump trashing their possibility of getting reelected. Republicans should hang there heads in shame. They've lost the ability to feel shame. Or to do anything constructive to help our country. It's all about scoring political points, and helping the rich get richer. Oh, and holding down women & minorities.

that was NOT the same video, but i would encourage everyone here to watch it from 3:55 forward, and listen to what Langford says about it. that man is no wild eyed liberal. in fact, he even uses the standard pejorative for Democrats. but he finds the behavior of MAGA GOP House members embarrassing, and is not afraid to express it.

I saw this today, and it describes the cruelty I've witnessed with the current "mob" that controls the GOP. I can't imagine what it must be like to live without caring about your fellow human beings. It's not "all about ME". If that makes me "woke", then so be it. Since Jesus taught "love your neighbor", I suppose the GOP would criticize that belief too.

Sadly it's going to be DOA in the Democrat controlled Senate. He and the administration has lied to the public since day one by saying the "border is not open" but anyone who with half a brain can see it. The outrageous immigration numbers do not lie. Record number of asylum seekers crossing the border unchecked.

Funny, that is what we all think of the second Trump impeachment. But I bet you think that impeachment was unwarranted. Which of the charges were more serious?

No, it's not. Republicans have already demonstrated that they don't give a damn about the border, other than keeping it alive as an issue for Trump to run on. They will NEVER fix it because it is too important to them NOT to fix it. The ONLY reason for them trying to impeach Biden is because Trump was LEGITIMATELY impeached twice. The ONLY reason for them to impeach Mayorkas is because there is zero chance that they can legitimately impeach Biden. THIS is the stupid, disgusting, traitorous group of worthless little f***s that now passes for the Republican Party. There is virtually no courage, honor, or integrity left in it. Just about all of the serious-minded people who used to make up the "thinking" wing of the party have either left or been run out. Whatever remains in the (now) Party of Trump needs to die, as quickly as possible. The only way to truly Make America Great Again is to eliminate every last vestige of Trumpism, and to have conservatives take back their party from the stupid, disgusting, traitorous group of worthless little f***s. Decades ago, Republicans had some good ideas, and actually wanted to do good things for the country. I used to think that both Democrats and Republicans wanted to end up mostly in the same place, but simply had different ideas on how best to get there. That is no longer true, if it ever really was. Republicans now have zero interest in doing what is good for either America or its people. They must be kept far away from power, since their only interest now is to gain power and then misuse it. I sincerely pray that you are willing to open your eyes enough to at least learn that much.

Did it make it through the senate? Did the house vote? Or is everything still in play? I lost the news thread on this one.

Did it make it through the senate? Did the house vote? Or is everything still in play? I lost the news thread on this one. The House first would have to pass the bipartisan created Senate bill. Trump put his foot on it because he did not want Biden to be able to take credit for its passing on the campaign trail. trump wants to use its failure against Biden on his campaign trail. So speaker the House Johnson sucked trump's ass and refused to put it up for a vote in the House. The bill is now dead. The imeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is a joke. The passing of the bill by the House and then the senate would have given Mayorkas the tools for Homeland Security to do a better job along the border. But republicans decided 'Fuck the border. We need go kiss trump's shit-stained ass so we can get ourselves reelected'. What the border bill would and wouldn’t do

Thank you, Bill for the clarificaton. So Republicans in the Senate and House would not vote on it and give Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas the tools to do a better job in controlling the border. ripvanwinkle can thank the Republican party for the chaos on the border.

A political pundit said that because Mitch McConnell was in favor of the bill and so many of his party were not, he wont be the leader anymore. They seemed sure it was career ending - but I have my doubts.

no. it is not. good news would be passing the immigration bill. this is windowdressing for the Trump Fan Club. it accomplishes NOTHING. in fact, it is wildly counterproductive. impeachment is broken as a remedy. that has been obvious since Clinton.

I have a question. I see how people come to the southern border but I don't understand how the illegals get to Canada and then cross into our Northern border. They don't walk there from the Mexican border. I saw a news story on the increase if crossings.
Do they fly to Canada from South America? Don't they have to show a visa to get into Canada on a plane from any country?

What your post tells us is that you think all who enter the US illegally are originally from South America. That is why you will be called racist.

'They' (those POC and national origin folks you don't like) get to Canada the same way you were fed as a toddler:

You really need to look into how exactly you cross international borders, because apparently you have never been outside of the US. Each country has their own rules in getting in, Canada included. You CAN be stopped if a visa is required and you do not have one. They can also make life quite difficult for you (just ask my Turkish friends who tried to go into Canada on a US visa) in both directions. If you are holding a passport from a South American country, if you need a visa to get into Canada you get it. If you do need one, then go to a US border crossing and try to cross without a visa and a visa is required by the US, you get turned back. It doesn't matter what country you are going through, what matters is which country's passport you are using. ETA: Not only that, when you are entering a country, you may be required to show a return flight, where you are staying, how much money you have access to and proof of health insurance. We have been required to provide all of this information (and more) to receive entry into other countries in our travels. The US is no different Ava has described the hoops her mom has to jump through to visit her in the US from Uruguay - and from what I can tell, the US is worse than many (except, quite possibly Saudi Arabia where they wanted everything).

Don't you have to have these to travel on a plane anywhere? Maybe Canada is liberal in its travel policies and lets anyone in.

Puerto Rico is not a foreign country. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Its residents are U.S. citizens.

No, Canada has their own requirements for a visa. If they have a visa for Canada, and one for the US is required by the passport they carry, they are not admitted at the border. A visa into Canada doesn’t get you entrance into the US. If a visa is required, there will be the proper stamp in your passport that lets you in. If no visa is required, then you are admitted like anyone else who is flying on a passport from another country. No, Canada doesn’t let everyone in. As I said earlier, Canada turned away Turkish friends who were trying to enter Canada through a US border, and they got into trouble from trying. Long story short, it doesn’t matter which country you are coming through. What only matters is the requirements your passport requires for you to enter the US. Many countries allow you to get a visa on entrance to the country at the airport. We fly into Bali in a few weeks and Indonesia requires visas for US citizens (we also need visas for Vietnam and Cambodia). Our Indonesian visa we can get at the airport.

BTW…..starting in 2025, Italy and the whole EU is going to require what is essentially a visa from US citizens. It is called EITAS. It was supposed to be rolled out earl6 2024, but with the summer Olympics in Paris, they decided to punt for a year. So if you want to go to Italy, you’ll need to apply for a visa. After all, Italy doesn’t just let everyone in….either.

passports don't get you into a country, unless that country and the country you are coming from have a visa arrangement. for example, when traveling to Turkiye, you must have a Turkish VISA to travel there from the US. if you don't, you will have to obtain one. the US passport is useless to gain entry, there. i think you have a fundamental misunderstanding about how immigration works. you are not alone. i have seen it widely on this board. IE: you are not "illegal" without paperwork (you can call it whatever you like. it is a free country. you can be wrong about things. but your status is "undetermined" until it is DETERMINED. i have traveled without a VISA. that did not make me illegal). and again, most "illegals" arrive here legally. it is not difficult to do that. unless you are a refugee. that makes it difficult. that is why we have amnesty laws. and when i say we, i mean pretty much every country on Earth.

both of those are US territories. they don't require a passport.
