Maybe the age to own a firearm should be increased to like 50 years old. More mature than this moron shooter. This story is sad. Man helping deer cross a busy street shot, killed by ‘scared’ driverA man who was trying to slow traffic in his neighborhood because deer were crossing the street was shot and killed by another man who was driving past, authorities in western Washington state said. Dan Spaeth of Snohomish, Wash., was outside his home with his wife on the evening of Sept. 7, trying to alert passing cars to deer that were crossing the road, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Det. Kendra Conley wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed in court. He was shot once by a man driving by, who later told authorities that seeing Spaeth and his wife in the street made him afraid and he fired the shot to scare the couple, according to the affidavit. After a search for the car, police detained Dylan Picard, 22, of Lake Stevens, Wash. He is charged with second-degree murder. Picard told detectives he did not know Spaeth or his wife. Spaeth, 37, was a correctional officer with the state Department of Corrections, said spokesman Chris Wright. He had a 7-year-old son and was married to his teenage sweetheart, Alissa, said friend Jeff Perkins, who spoke to The Washington Post on behalf of the family. WTF? What is there to be scared of? You're in a two ton death machine against an unarmed guy in the road.
Not saying he should have ran him over either.
More there was zero reason to shoot even if he was supposedly scared.
WTF is wrong people?

I think the "WTF is going on" is one of the following:
Americans are terrified of any and all situations in their everyday life. And they are using the only tool they have (their guns) to combat that terror. Americans are out in public while high/drunk and are using the only tool they have (their guns) to deal with other people because they feel disrespected/personally attacked. So they shoot first. Americans are expiring more complicated and dangerous untreated mental illnesses and are armed with guns. They are using the only tool they have to cope with their mental illness and so they shoot first.

I wonder to what degree increased access to information coupled with basically unlimited need by media to have content has simply made us more aware of shit like this happening. If this happened pre-internet, how many would be aware of it.

I wonder to what degree increased access to information coupled with basically unlimited need by media to have content has simply made us more aware of shit like this happening. If this happened pre-internet, how many would be aware of it. True but in it's own way I think it's good that it is more out there. We need to be having the discussion regarding America's notion that everyone and anyone has the right to be a "good guy with a gun". No some people are fucking idiots and have no business owning a gun. Yeah you can shoot them all you want for fun but at the end of the day it's a weapon that's purpose is to hurt/kill something or someone. People who shoot a guy standing in the road that poses no actual threat shouldn't have a gun. Instead we argue "Well he shouldn't have been standing in the road! Better safe than sorry it would have been too late if he hadn't made the call! It's his right to own a gun and protect himself!" The dude was in a CAR! He could have run him over with the CAR if he was that dang threatened! What possible threat did a guy standing the road pose that a CAR couldn't have stopped? Or the logical thing put the car in reverse and back away if you were that concerned. A dude on foot isn't going to be able to catch a CAR! Why did you feel the need to stop, pull out your weapon and fire? We are getting too into an "when all you have is a hammer" situation in this country. I have a right to own a gun, I have my gun, therefore the solution must be gun. I don't need to actually stop and assess the situation, just start shooting and back fill the narrative later.

This is awful. He should get the maximum sentence as he had options including reversing his vehicle and going the other way.

This idiot wished he had a gun to protect himself from people trying to give him Calgary Stampede tickets. I kid you not. A Michigan police officer vacationing in Calgary is at the centre of a social media storm after saying he wished he was allowed to carry a handgun to protect himself from people asking if he had been to the Stampede. www.thestar.com/news/canada/u-s-tourist-s-desire-for-gun-in-calgary-park-sparks-twitter-storm/article_caeb1aeb-24b7-56c8-a036-bd7581860dd6.html

Kalamazoo police officer Walt Wawra should reconsider staycations in the future.

I'm not going to lie and say I've never wanted to strangle the clipboard people in the Old Market but a simple "No thank you" and firmly walking away usually does the trick. No need to shoot them.

Perhaps the officer is unaware that he could have this opinion and not write a freakin' letter to the editor about it.
