I guess I am odd because I never aspired to have Barbie's body and I don't know many girls that did.  We all knew Barbie was a doll she wasn't meant to be realistic.   

Far more damaging were magazines like Seventeen that encouraged things how to obtain the perfect body for prom and stuff like that.

No, I haven't seen the movie.  I can only guess that the GOP is offended because although Barbie is a "girlie girl" (likes fashion, wears a lot of pink, etc.) she has worked a lot of different professional careers, and has chosen her own destiny.

That would have been a very reasonable and rational thing to do. And it was something I did once my brain matured to be more reasonable and rational. That was about the time I learned about those articles in Seventeen magazine.

What does a sex scene in the movie have to do with Bills thinking the doll was an image of the female body? I just can't imagine any kid thinking that is what men and women are supposed to look like....they don't even have nipples, something every kid has.  Did he think they fell off when we grew into adults?

There’s also a funny term used to describe the dolls’ missing lower extremities. Young children will definitely not understand the phrase used in the Barbie movie. Some will certainly ask to have it explained to them, though. However, there’s nothing resembling nudity, though.  source

I had a similar distorted image in my early teens, but mine was with the models in Playboy.  I didn't know that women weren't all going to have big boobs like that, and that most of those boobs were fake. lol

I was very disappointed!

the commodification of female bodies, particularly 23 year old, white, thin female bodies has done women a disservice for decades, if not centuries.  i am not sure when it will stop, but surely it would be best for everyone when it does.

Ken and Barbie leave Barbie land, where women are in charge of everything, and go out into the real world where Ken discovers the patriarchy. He brings it back to Barbieland and he and all the other Kens impose a patriarchy on it. Barbie outsmarts him by causing all the Kens to fight each other - and in the end, everyone realizes that nobody should always be in charge, everyone should share.

Not that I saw the movie, I went to see Oppenheimer at the IMAX theater like the science nerd I am. Sat transfixed for the full 3 hours. Maybe the best movie ever, Cillian Murphy is maybe the best leading man ever.
