Not that I saw the movie, I went to see Oppenheimer at the IMAX theater like the science nerd I am. Sat transfixed for the full 3 hours. Maybe the best movie ever, Cillian Murphy is maybe the best leading man ever. Two protests against it - an Irish guy playing a Jew and two characters having sex while holding and reading from a Hindu religious book. Was their an exorcism in the movie? Some of my Facebook friends are very religious and found fault with the exorcism.

Or did they mistake a sex scene for an exorcism?

I misread her post. She went to see Oppenheimer but the movie previews before Oppenheimer began contained what she thought might be an exorcism.

No, I haven't seen the movie. I can only guess that the GOP is offended because although Barbie is a "girlie girl" (likes fashion, wears a lot of pink, etc.) she has worked a lot of different professional careers, and has chosen her own destiny. check her post if you want to have the movie spoiled for you The GOP is screaming’woke.’ Damn happyhoix , you should have put that behind a spoiler alert. I was so looking forward to seeing it. There are so few movies made these days for an old straight white guy target audience.

Adding to the discussion: Research by Developmental Psychology, a peer-reviewed academic journal, revealed that girls from ages three to eight who were given the “original Barbie” had lower self-esteem and more body image issues than girls who had no Barbie at all. While such expectations can fade with time when girls become women and realize that the Barbie body is entirely unrealistic and unattainable for anyone, those standards often imperceptibly linger. link That’s interesting. I never had a Barbie doll, which wasn’t a big deal because I never really wanted one that I recall. I never had one because I was only allowed to have brown dolls. I don’t think Barbie dolls came in different shades of color back then. I never really thought about the specific reasons why that was important to my Mom, I just always knew it was. I remember when Cabbage Patch Dolls came out. Leading up to Christmas, my Mom was spending countless hours shopping, but I didn’t know why. Well, I wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll for Christmas and all that shopping was her running around trying to find a brown one. Which she finally managed to find, and I got my Cabbage Patch doll for Christmas, and all was well. I hadn’t thought about any of that in many years.

Thanks for the warning. I will likely see the movie months down the road when it is streaming at no added cost on something but not actually worried about it being "spoiled".

Like what did an exercise have to do with the atomic bomb!

I do not recall the name of it, but there was an African American character named Julia (I think that was her name) and she was a nurse. They made a “Barbie” of the character and I was happy to have Julia in my group of 4 or 5 dolls. That was well before the makers of Barbie realized the dolls needed to be more representative of our multicultural society.

I played with Barbie dolls, never thought about the sex stuff. Non of my dolls had anything like real people either so no problem. It was just fun.
Back at age 18 I was 5'9" inches, weighed about 118 to 120, was thin, had a very small waist and decent boobs, so I was one of the skinny ones. Well until I had kids than was heavier for most of my life.

My barbie's baby was actually a little troll doll, but she leaned to love him. She was married to action man (I think you call GI Joe) and there was a big ceremony in the garden with flowers and live frogs as guests. Action man died in combat and got buried (then dug up again when that game was finished) I grew up ok

I was too old when Barbie came out. I had a Betsy Wetsy...and I already knew that babies wore diapers & had to be changed since I was already doing that with my nephew. I already knew the difference between boys & girls...and I was about 7 at the time. It was also about that time that Dad took me to watch a calf being born. That was a neat experience.

I had no intention of seeing this movie any time soon, but since its pissing so many right wingers off, I've decided to go see it in theatres. lol Plus, good for Greta Gerwig! She's from my area, and is breaking the glass ceiling for women directors.

Oh you KNOW this is happening in some households. And then the parents burn the dolls just like Ben Shapiro! They sure are sticking it to us woke folks! lol

I watched a couple of episodes on Youtube recently.

Barbie is a great movie - funny all the way through (except that one little part that drags), tackles an issue, not overtly sexual, no cursing, doesn’t take itself too seriously while talking about something pretty serious. So good.

It's very critical of the patriarchy and at the end the Ken's are working towards equality in Barbieland like women are in the real world. It's a very woke movie. In all the best ways. Which makes Fox heads explode

I think it did a good job at pointing out that a pure matriarchy won’t be perfect either. Conservatives missed that point.
