I am sure Trump's legal team will push back. Judge sets Aug. 14 trial date for Trump documents caseA Florida judge has set an initial Aug. 14 trial date for former President Trump in the Justice Department’s (DOJ) case over his retention of classified documents. Judge Aileen Cannon set the preliminary trial date for roughly two months after Trump’s arraignment at her courtroom in Fort Pierce, Fla. The judge said in a Tuesday filing that all pre-trial motions must be filed by July 24. Trump and his team are expected to push to delay the trial through those motions, however, making it unlikely that the Aug. 14 date will hold. Rest of article here: Judge sets Aug. 14 trial date for Trump documents casei am not sure they will succeed. there is a compelling argument for getting this done before the end of the year.

I think the complex legal aspects of trying this case will override any political aspects which push for a quicker trial. But a review of Cannon’s criminal cases since she took the bench in late 2020 suggests this is standard practice for the Florida-based judge. She typically sets trial dates six to eight weeks from the start of a case, only to allow weeks- or months-long delays as issues arise and the parties demand more time to prepare. link Further: In a written order, Cannon notes the parties could ask to push back the trial date because of the complexities of the case and issues related to classified information, both of which might draw out the timeline to trial. link

I just saw him say the boxes contained "all kinds of things" like golf shirts and shoes etc. First, he comes across as a desperate kid lying. Second, no one packs like that. No one.

My 18 year old son packed kinda like that when coming home from the dorm. He literally opened trash bags and threw stuff in there - clothing, computer wires and keyboard, dishes. It was crazy. But, I would like to think that the President of the USA had help packing by professionals that would follow at least some thoughtful process. He said on Fox News they had to pack quickly because there was time pressure. If the dolt had accepted his loss in November like every other 1 term President, he would have had plenty of time. Heck, even if he accepted defeat on January 7th they could have gotten everything out neatly. He makes it sound like it was a Dolly Madison-esq grab and run in the middle of the night thing. It was not. He is clearly lying.

How hard would it have been as Trump's time in the White House was nearing its end to have his clothing moved from the Oval Office area to his living quarters there? Not hard at all. So it's just another trump lie.

Tenn has it right. it HAS to be a lie. and again, is that really the best one he could come up with? because that is kind of an overtly stupid one.

I remember hearing stories about idiot not reading his briefing materials and just tossing the sheets on the floor or in the garbage. Why did he suddenly get so interested in all these documents? He did not pack all those documents in boxes and they were not stored in his bedroom anywhere near his clothes. He had to tell people to go get the boxes from wherever and ship them to his hut. Why?

I read a couple of his ghost-written books. I watched the first few seasons of Apprentice. If you read Mary's book there was no separation of personal life and business life. His dad promoted business life was life in general which is why Trump decided at a young age he would steamroll over his brother and any family member who got in his way. He undid nothing. He had a habit even years ago to eat incriminating paperwork.

I guarantee he and Melania have plenty of staff to pack up their luggage for them as they traverse between all their various properties, loading in the suitcases and golf clubs and hat boxes for them - zero chance Trump is scooping up sweaty polo shirts and newspaper clippings and nuclear secrets and throwing them into banker’s boxes like some hung over college student trying to vacate a dorm room. And his bull shit about not having time to go through the boxes - he’s got plenty of minions who could sort the damn boxes into piles of newspaper stories, memos, and highly classified documents - IF he wanted them to.

In addition to being a liar, he’s not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He is however, cunning, that’s his talent. His ability to mesmerize his minions is due to that and his ability to appeal to their emotional deficits and ugly hearts. They aren’t all that smart either. Just my opinion.

ETA: his real problem with the "no time" claim is of course all those photos playing golf since retiring trying to proof he has such a superior physique compared to Joe Biden . If only he had spend some of that time to remove his undies from those boxes so he could send them to the National Archives

Oh ye of short attention span! Do you not remember that on Jan 6th while the storming of the Capitol building was ongoing people were trying to get the loser to make a statement to stop the rioting? They went so far as to go to Mrs. Soft-porn star to talk to the loser. She could not be bothered because she had photographers take photos of the WH for her future coffee table book. In other words: she was too busy. Now did you not see the photo of the presidential bathroom storage of top secret files? The man is a SLOB!!! Imagine the photographers had gotten a shot of something like that in the WH. It would have ruined, ruined I tell you, her book. You bet your petootie she would have objected!

I remember months back when one of his former admins was spilling the tea and said that Trump kept legal boxes in his bedroom. Periodically when he went upstairs at night he took documents with him to review- and/or to stash in his beautiful mind boxes.
I can see if he had open boxes in his bedroom and he was getting backed into a corner he might grasp at the ‘my dirty drawers might have been in there!’ Straw.
Now that his ratings are dropping he’s fishing for an excuse his minions will buy, and it’s dirty clothes.

The problem with that claim is that he has already been taped making a different claim. To refute it, he, or someone else will need to testify to that. And if Trump gets on the stand, his lawyer is an idiot

there HAD to have been another person in that room.
my contention is that no document exists. he was lying. as usual.
what Trump has NOT denied is that this little episode shows that he knows that his highly classified documents are still highly classified. that is far more damaging than waving around phony documents, when the real thing was IN HIS DESK.

I still don't get quite how the storage of classified documents works. Just where did those hundreds of boxes of documents come from? Why are there all these boxes of documents floating around the country? Biden had boxes of documents too. Why aren't they filed away somewhere? Or if they were who was unfiling them?

Latest claim - he didn’t show anyone classified documents, just newspaper clippings. x large number he told Hannity earlier this year that he thought it would be OK if he did. so, why the denials, now? worried about the Espionage Act?

i think he is the first defendant i have ever seen who has been convicted on his public statements. there is so much more that i COULD say about this, but i won't. not until this is over. and it will be over. nothing lasts forever. even Clarence Thomas.

Former President HissyFit is at it again. 'Planted by scoundrels!' Trump demands GOP allies investigate purported FBI setupFormer President Donald Trump on Thursday issued an angry demand for Republican allies to launch investigations into the multiple criminal probes he faces. In a furious Truth Social post, the former president also insinuated without any evidence that the FBI planted top-secret government documents in boxes he stashed at his Mar-a-Lago resort. "Congress will hopefully now look at the ever continuing Witch Hunts and ELECTION INTERFERENCE against me on perfectly legal Boxes, where I have no doubt that information is being secretly 'planted' by the scoundrels in charge, the Perfect Phone Calls (Atlanta), the illegal DOJ/Pomerantz/Manhattan D.A. Hoax, where virtually EVERYONE agrees THERE IS NO CASE, and the NYSAG SCAM, where I have proven beyond a doubt that there is no case, but have a hostile Judge who should not be on this case!" Trump wrote. In fact, most legal experts say it was not "perfectly legal" for Trump to hold onto nuclear secrets at his private resort and then refuse to return them after being subpoenaed for them by a grand jury.
