I found THIS article about Jenna Ortega smoking a cigarette. She is 20YO. I do not know anyone under 30 who smokes cigarettes, and I live in a state that grows a lot of tobacco and is a major hub for cigarette brands. I also was employed for over 10 years by a food company that was owned by a major, very famous, cigarette company. I am 48 and do not smoke. My parents quit when I got pregnant with DD, their first grandchild, and DH quit after we got married in 2009. Living in the land of tobacco, the cheapest pack of cigarettes here is $7.73 and that famous pack is almost $13. My dad used to smoke 2 packs a day, which would equal close to $200 a week now. That is a lot of money where I come from, at over $10,000 a year.

If you are asking about an under 30yo, not to my knowledge. Now my/our greatest failure as a mom/parents was that we were not able to stop DS1 from picking up the habit when he was away in college. Neither xH nor I ever smoked when we had kids (Ex smoked for a very short time when we first got together and I never did). But we lost his beloved, smoking, oma due to lung cancer . It was not enough of a deterrent and he smokes to this day - just never in any house or around me.

Come spend a day with me. It will disabuse your notion that no one smokes. And the smoking rate here is way less than it is in tobacco states. It is clearly noticeable to my wife and I how much higher the smoking rate is in the South compared to here when we visit.

Those who weren't cooks or better are generally thirty or less. And its not just people who come here from other countries that are smokers. Lots of New Jerseyans and US citizens do as well. Plus, smoking can be easily hidden especially if where they work is smoke free. Check out the cars during meal break at most retail, especially grocery stores ... it will be easy to find them. I forgotten names, but yes I knew more than a handful of people thirty and south in age that smoked.

I liked this comment by Burton after the article in the OP.
Anyone who's ever been "behind the scenes" with anything involving actors, models, musicians etc will attest: ALL those people smoke. It's rare to see a creative celebrity or model who ISN'T a cigarette smoker, at least casually. 1) for actors, tons of roles involve smoking. These actors will spend 6 hours on set smoking for the camera on occasions. Cigarettes are addictive. Ipso facto, they get addicted. 2) famous people are, more often than not, constantly asked to be skinny. Cigarettes suppress appetite and increase metabolic rate. Believe it or not, a lot of these folks start smoking to stay skinny. 3) For whatever reason there's a strong correlation between blue collar workers and smoking. All of these professions spend far more time than you might think around those workers. Set designers, roadies, backstage engineers etc. Smoking has a social aspect to it, so by spending time with those people, smoking can be easily picked up. 4) Outside of the US and the UK smoking is still a HUGELY prevalent part of many cultures.
I want to do films but the smoking thing does concern me. My guess is smoking is not a problem or less of one on Christian movie sets.

I don't have anyone in my circle who smoke, but concerts and casinos tell me lots of people smoke. So do family reunions.

I know people who do smoke. I can't think of anyone under the age of 30 though. I'm in a state where it's pretty expensive.
When I worked for a public accounting firm we had some clients in the Roanoke area of Virginia. This was in 2009 and I nearly died of shock the first restaurant we walked into for lunch asked if we wanted the smoking or non smoking section. To me, my home state of WV was plenty backwards in a lot of ways, and even they had done away with that years ago. I'm pretty sure I stuttered answering the hostess.
The second hand smoke in Las Vegas in 2011 did me in. I came home really sick and in the end had a slew of new food allergies and asthma.
Looking back I think it was a combination of allergies in overdrive including to the building I began working in six months prior and the cigarette smoke was just the tipping point. That and the cat on the flight home.

I know under 30s that smoke weed, but not cigarettes. I only know one person who smokes cigarettes and he's over 50 - and only when he's drinking I think.

Why did I just know this was going to be about Jenny Ortega? The Facebooks lost their minds over this yesterday. Judging from the comments there are a lot of under 30's that do (and all feeling as immortal as ever). I only know one personally myself. My son's cousin that is 22, but I also don't hang around with many under 30 either.

like Wednesday Addams? that's the only thing I can remotely guess from the still shot in your link. I think I heard there was another revision of that movie, but I haven't seen it. still don't know her name. I'll embrace being old. I've been yelling at the crazy neighbor to stop traumatizing my dogs the past 2y. GET OFF MY LAWN! isn't all that far behind.

I haven't seen this, but this is what I remember about her - In the Netflix comedy horror series WednesdayApparently loved by critics. Maybe I will see it b4 2025. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenna_Ortega
Ortega played the titular role of Wednesday Addams, which she called a "new chapter" in her career.[11] To prepare, she underwent "the most physical transformation I've ever done; I cut my hair, and it's black, and mannerism-wise, speaking cadence-wise, expression-wise".[86] She later called production of season one "the most overwhelming job" she had ever had and spoke about being in a constant state of confusion and stress over the direction of the series and character.[87] She later revealed her discomfort with becoming well known for her work on the show, having had a creatively unpleasant experience filming it.[88] However, Ortega's performance in the series was widely praised,[89][90] receiving nominations for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.[91][92]

The kids and I binged it in a weekend.

Technically no. I log in under my ex's account, although I hear we won't get away with that anymore going forward. Haven't tried in the past week or so since the new crackdown started.

I have an acquaintance, 50-ish, who vapes and two 65-ish people on my block smoke like chimneys despite serious lung and cardio issues. I do see the price of various brands posted on the windows of the convenience store where I fuel up and it's incredible. I smoked until 2005 and quit cold turkey with the aid of acupuncture.

I smoke 4 cigarettes a year! My DIL’s mother smokes and when we get together for New years day, 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas I bum one of hers! I’m fortunate that it doesn’t set me off having to smoke again on daily basis. And I have never used the Q word I tell people I’m resting my lungs! Haven’t smoked any this year since she didn’t show up for NY day get together i did see price of a carton at grocery store while checking out. I think I actually gasped out loud. $84. A carton. May be cheaper ones but WOW.

I know way more people who smoke cannabis than cigarettes at this point. Aside from a few actual smokers, most people I know who smoke cigarettes only do so socially after drinking.

There are definitely patrons who come into the library reeking of cigarettes. Ugh. All older people.
DS5 talks about the kids who vape at school, but he doesn't know anyone his age that smokes cigarettes.

I'm 37, and I don't hang with a lot of under-30s, but all the people I know who smoke are older (60s and 70s).
I'm always surprised to see people smoking, as I thought it really fell off a decade ago. However, my dad quit smoking 13 years ago, so I am just not around it at all anymore, so I totally forget that people still do it.

At this point in my life, I only know people who smoke weed.
Years ago, I was in the hospital and wasn't allowed to go outside unless I was a smoker. I quickly became one. And I stayed a smoker until people quit telling me what to do (stop). I quit the next day. It was a short term thing.

Vaping and weed is alive and well at the kids' high school. To the point where DS would choose to not use school bathrooms during the day.
Neither are which are "perfectly harmless" for kids. But. It's part of the world we live in.
Random, but I'd be more concerned about how long people are able to concentrate on screens now, over vaping and weed. CNN just reported that the average concentration period now in front of screens is 47 seconds. Which, from my industry, I think it's pretty accurate.
Folks can choose to vape or do drugs. How many of us can use minimal to no technology on the job or in school?
If we want to try to be basically educated and employed, we don't have a choice. We have to use technology. 47 seconds. How much you think the kids are actually learning in school?

If by "people who smoke" you mean people who hide their smoking from anyone who doesn't also smoke... then I know a lot of people of smoke. I'd say the youngest is in their 30's and the oldest is over 70. I don't know any teens or college aged students at this point in my life. I do not know anyone who openly smokes. I do not smoke (with other smokers or when I'm by myself (or when I think I am.) At some point most of the smokers I know either caved into social pressure or where overwhelmed by the cost and gave up smoking. The ones that managed to overcome the addictive parts of smoking stopped buying and using cigarettes. Those that switched to vaping nicotine - either managed to wean themselves off of it and "smoking" all together OR they went back to smoking cigarettes. The ones that just can't cut the ties to smoking still smoke actual cigarettes. I do know a few people who more or less switched from smoking tobacco to using "edibles" or whatever. There are a lot of mental/psychological "needs" that smoking or cannabis "feeds/fulfills".

If y'all don't anyone who still smokes you now do. I smoke tobacco. Have done so for the past 60 years. I am now 72 years old. No immediate plans to quit. I don't drink or do drugs. I smoked Marlboro 100s for most of those 60 years. When the price got too expensive for Marlboro cigarettes, I switched to cigar tobacco which are then made by the producer into filtered cigarettes. I can buy four cartons of the the cigar tobacco cigarettes for the price of maybe one and a half cartons of Marlboro cigarettes. Reason why my current cigar tobacco cigarettes are so cheap is because cigar tobacco is taxed so much lower than the tobacco used in Marlboros (for example). I smoke in my home as I am the only human living in the house. I do not smoke in other peoples' homes. I step outside if I need a hit of nicotine. I have yearly medical physicals including lung scans. No problems at this point. When the weather is nice I often step outside to smoke. Nice to sit outdoors for any number of reasons.

My daughters are in college. They say many people on campus vape, but few smoke. However, one of them was in Ireland for study abroad this past year and she was shocked how many kids actually smoked. I grew up in a household with two 3+ pack a day smokers. You would come down from the second floor and the living room had its own atmosphere. My Dad quit in the mid-90s after his doctor told him his heart was massively enlarged. My mom quit smoking after my first daughter was born five years later. Unfortunately, my mom didn't quit earlier enough because she ended up with lung cancer, recovered from it, and then was taken out by COPD.
