She is not citing the majority, since the majority is CLEARLY not in favor of outlawing abortion. It is inarticulate and confusing, but I believe she is trying to say that she is right because millions of people are against abortion like she isAnd MANY MORE millions are not.

I know that, you know that, most people on this board knows that. She either doesn't know it, refuses to accept it, or thinks it is wrong

Small states are disadvantaged (grossly is subjective). "Should" reflects opinion. While I fully agree with your opinion that individuals not states should take precedence, it is still just an opinion that she disagrees with. No, small states are over-represented under the EC. That is clearly true as I showed earlier. Added together, two million fewer people have 40 more electoral votes. That is not an "opinion" that one can simply disagree with. Collectively lower population states have a disadvantage in that more of them have to vote a certain way than collectively states with high population to gain a majority in the Electoral College. And while the number of people is a fact, that it matters is the opinion.

No the country needs to be looked at as a whole. Actually those 22 states should have more electoral votes. The only problem I have is that the top 11 or 12 states has enough votes to win the presidency. It should be majority of actual states Which is EXACTLY why the Electoral College should be abolished. One person, one vote is critical to democracy. What we have is 50+ different standards of how much a vote is worth. And again, STATES DON"T MATTER. PEOPLE DO. The vote of one person should be worth the same as the vote of any other whether they are in California, Wyoming, South Carolina, or anywhere else. They are not now, and never will be under the current EC system. I think this is where it all started people think we are a democracy we are a republic government

you come right out and say exactly that when you say that a woman loses her bodily autonomy when she becomes pregnant. what is that, other than being a second class citizen where her own rights and autonomy don't come first? It has nothing to do with autonomy. You just don't get to kill a child. It is perverse. putting more importance on the potential life than on the life of the person carrying it is making the carrier a second class citizen. I'm not sure how much clearer I can be in explaining that. you just choose not to acknowledge it. the potential life cannot survive on its own until viability, and is up to that point, a parasite to the carrier. that is scientific fact, not my opinion.

We've got a big problem in the USA right now, that if something bad isn't happening in their own neighborhood, some people think it's not a problem. It's both selfish AND sad for anyone to think a person outside of their little world doesn't matter.

This should not be happening at block parties nor anywhere really. There are so many people who should not have guns possibly ever.

Is that really why we are a republic? So the minority can take away the rights of the majority? The majority doesn't have any more rights than the minority? That is why there has to be an electoral college small states should have as much say as large states. i think you are conflating individual and states rights.

As someone who has fully abandoned his birth state, I do struggle with idea of strongly identifying as a citizen of (pick a state). But I am able to do so to some degree on an intellectual level. I think it is an antiquated perspective with today's mobility but my two siblings are still rock hard Idaho spud heads. My real issue is with scgal not fully owning the consequences of the Electoral College system. As far as logic and reason, I think she is again operating on an emotional level. I don't think I operate on an emotional level maybe I do. Yet I think of the same for a lot people here. I too abandoned my birth state just happened to go to a nice thick red state. just ignore the accusation, and try not to make it. reason: none of you know me, or what my emotional state is. ergo, you are attempting to undermine my argument if you accuse me of being "emotional". my emotional state is typically in a fairly narrow range from grumpy to calm. i am pretty rarely outside that range, and when i am, you will see a lot of edits. i re-read everything i post.

Here is what the discussion is concerning: There are two competing thought processes that drive decisions: logic and emotions. Although the two can occasionally be intertwined, deciphering whether your choices are made by logic or emotions can be an important part of ensuing that you’re making the best decisions for your long term satisfaction. link It isn't about a passing emotional state.

And MANY MORE millions are not. the Taliban doesn't care, bro. Of course not, but anyone trying to claim they are making decisions based on logic and reason instead of belief, or trying to make an argument based on numbers (where the numbers are decidedly not in their favor), really should care, at least a little bit.

Well, as bill posted, the two major thought processes that drive decision-making are logic and emotion. The poster claimed to not be deciding based on emotion, or at least thinking that they don't make decisions that way. That pretty much implies that they think they are using logic instead. My philosophy has always been, "Never let emotion get in the way of making a good decision."

Nothing to see here. Ralph Moralis was supposed to walk his daughter down the aisle this weekend. Instead, less than a week before one of the most important days of his life, he was shot dead by a gunman who started firing randomly at vehicles and nearby pedestrians in southwest Philadelphia Monday night. Five people were killed, including 59-year-old Moralis, and two young boys were wounded, authorities said.Lashyd Merritt left his Philadelphia home Monday night for what was supposed to be a quick run to the corner store to get a snack, his mother told CNN affiliate WPVI. He never came back. “For a person who’s not out here in these streets, just going to get a snack – it breaks my heart,” Marie Merritt said. Monday’s attack was one of at least 356 mass shootings that have devastated US communities so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. linkThe last line was clipped from the middle of the article . The day the article was written was day 186 of 2023, which comes out to almost 2 mass shootings EVERY DAY. Official count is 1.96236559139, but who is counting? And that is only those labeled as "mass shootings".
