I'm thankful that they were already bundled into $100 bundles which made it easier to expect $100 to be in each of the 63 bundles--there were actually 10-20 bundles that had $1-$2 extra + two $20s, hence the "$60"--but please don't do this. lol. It took 30 minutes to un-bundle, run through the machine, and bundle back up; and that was with two of us and nobody in line, waiting to be helped.

Back a few years, I seem to remember some sort of banking regulations required reporting large cash deposits to someone, somewhere?? Are those still in place? Sorry this happened to you and your co-worker. Glad it went as well as it did.

I'm guessing waitress/waiter. Some customers are REALLY stingy with the tips.

That's for $10,000 or more, so not applicable

I tend to accumulate $1 bills (not thousands of dollars worth though!), a leftover habit of making sure I always had small bills on hand when my children were growing up. I currently have at least $20 worth in my wallet, and I paid for something yesterday with all $1 bills to get rid of some of them and joked to the guy at the register, that “knows” me because I’m in that store all the time, that it looks like I’m a stripper, with all the $1 bills I have.

I throw all the $1 and $5s I get into an envelope. Then we have small bills when they are needed. I finally started doing this instead of spending them. We don't pay for a lot with cash so it's not like I'm putting big amounts aside.
Generally they go for housekeeping tips at hotels, the shuttle driver where we park at the airport and the baseball ushers if they wipe down our seats.

I have started to pack for the cruise to Alaska. I hemmed my new rain pants and put a few things into a pile. Your post reminds me to pack a bunch of $1 and $5 bills for tips along the trip. Maybe $5 and $10 bills, inflation and all.

I have noticed that the tellers at Wells Fargo do not even try to count cash being deposited. They run it all through the bill counter twice for the amount and go from there.
We lived in a state fair town for many years. People parked cars on their lawn and earned lots of $1 bills.

The machines do a much better job with the large stacks, especially when there are new bills. One of the bundles, today, was 100 brand-spanking-new bills. Those are a bitch to separate from each other. The machines are also faster AND can give you a item count along with the $ amount.

Dad always tossed his change in to his change jar when he went to bed.
He would take the money to the bank periodically and get cash or have it deposited. That was his way of saving for our vacations, a new lawn mower, etc. He NEVER spent change.
I think all of the stores in the town where he lived near me hated him because they would ask if he didn't have change instead of a $20. Nope, he always got $20's when he got money out of the bank.

What added to the juggling of this transaction is that she wanted some put in her Savings, some in her Checking, and then she wanted $1000 cash back.
The first two parts...no problem. Then, my tired brain had me going to grab 10 bundles to give them back to her and I had to pause: "No, dummy, she wants bills larger than $1." We hadn't received our order of large bills from the Fed yet so I had no $100s to give her and no $50s. I had to buy the $1000 in $20s from my coworker and give that to my customer.
This was all about an hour after a fella had come in and withdrawn $9800 from his account. In that case, I gave him $8000 in $20s and $1800 in $100s.
My brain was done with large quantities of bills by the time I left for the day.

I would be really curious why this was done. Guess you can’t ask based on bank rules for privacy? When I read it actually happened to you, freaky . Usually incidents like this just show up like a weird blurb

Many people here live in a cash economy for many reasons. Some have had bad experiences with banks in their country of origin, many work in service industries and are paid under the table so their employers can avoid taxes, some have personal issues leading them to live in off the grid. This often has tragic outcomes because cash carriers are very vulnerable to predators. Woman here followed 24 miles from bank after she withdrew thousands was left paralyzed after attack at a local store she stopped at on the way home. We withdraw cash quarterly and are VERY careful not to be followed home.

I never carry more than $20 cash and rarely that. DH saves all his coins and rolls them. We deposit them annually-bank won’t accept loose coin.

I'm guessing jerseygirl means she's curious as to why this customer had so many $1 bills. I am too lol.

For which part are you wondering why? Where did they get these bills? Oh. She's a "dancer". And this was last month's tips.

That's quite a bit of cash to have hanging around at home until she gets to the bank.

Oh. She's a "dancer". And this was last month's tips. Really?? Wrapped packs of $100 Single bills seems unlikely They were each "wrapped" in a single black elastic hair band like what you put on the end of a braid. Why is it unlikely? I mean, she stated outright that she's a dancer and I definitely handed her back a handful of the elastic bands.

My father knew the person who invented the paper bands to go around stacks of bills. He worked in a bank and before the bands, elastic was used with the predictable problems. He did quite well for himself.

Annoying, but $1 bills are much safer than $20s and $50s I would think. It would take forever to rob someone with thousands in ones!

Would it be easier to do half twice a month or do you wish she came in weekly?

Then my bank must have really hated me when I brought in a couple thousand $$ in change and $1 bills. This was my trip to Greece fund, and by keeping it in an unbroken piggy bank I was able to save. At the time, it was easier for me to ignore an unknown amount of change in that bank than it was to put it into savings and see the periodic balances.
The coin was so heavy I had to bring it in in a suitcase with wheels.
FWIW, we brought about $3000 in cash along on this cruise. We had $500 in $1, $1000 in $5 and the rest in $10/20s. We had to scan all the bills for newer bills and had the bank exchange them if they were marked or torn. Not sure how much we have left, maybe half? Once we get through the Middle East, we will be switching to euros.

It had been a month since she'd been in to make a deposit that exceeded $100.
