wasn't trump also the first president to have no political office experience and/or Military experience?

I AM disappointed. He wasn't wearing handcuffs while going into the building, and there will be no mugshot. It must be nice being so "speshul".

Funny that Trump apparently will have to appear in court personally (as a criminal defendant) for every proceeding, every motion, every action he wants his attorneys to take. No more clogging up the court with nonsense with no trouble or consequence to him.

Generally people who surrender aren't placed in cuffs. The mugshot thing, I don't get. I assumed everyone arrested for a felony in NY had to have their mugshot done. Maybe it's just prints? Something for me to look up later.

Apparently brave MTG dropped in to protest, heard a lot of boos and jumped back out.
I’m 100 percent sure her secret service detail told her she had to leave because it wasn’t safe, but I enjoy the idea that she boasted she would be there to support Trump but scuttled off pretty quickly. Maybe she expected an overwhelming crowd of Trump supporters would show, so she could lead them in anti Bragg cheers.
George Santos was there, too, but I haven’t heard that any other gop politicians made the trip to show their support, not even his daughter. Sad.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling on her supporters to donate what they can to help cover security costs related to her plan to “peacefully protest the unjust political persecution” of former President Donald Trump. link

i just read the indictment. all thirty four counts are for business fraud.
it does not make clear what the associated crime was in the indictment.
i am not sure why that is.

However, falsifying business records – the charge Trump faces 34 counts of – is only a felony if the records were falsified with the intent to commit or conceal another crime. link So if that intent is not satisfactorily established, does that mean they are only misdemeanors or is the whole case thrown out? I heard something about statute of limitations for misdemeanors is past.

I may be mistaken but I believe I heard on TV trump does not have to show up for every hearing as long as his lawyers are in attendance at every hearing.

I can't imagine how much it cost to get him to the court house today. They did a good job of keeping things peaceful though. Maybe that is why the NY charges were first. They have the manpower to deal with a guy trying to start a civil war.

New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan told the Trump lawyers that he expects that "all other defendants to appear in court, even high profile defendants" and would not be making an exception for the former president. link

I'm also confused. If these 34 counts are just part of a more severe ongoing conspiracy charge why don't they let the public know? Today I've heard all the legal pundits on CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX etc all saying it could be weak case unless Bragg can produce this mythical charge to tie it all together. A few said the statute of limitations have run out.
When will they publish the indictment counts and will the larger count that Bragg is banking on to make all this a felony. I'm sure there is a blizzard of legal motions being filed right now. Do you think Bragg will have the balls to personally try this case or will he have his underlings do it.

They did not spell out everything (including the additional crime involved) because the law does not require it. Why would he give defendant's counsel a road map on how the prosecution's case is going to go when he doesn't have to? It is a VERY safe bet that the case would never have been brought without all of the facts lined up ahead of time. Any other interpretation is wishful thinking by either Trump or his supporters in trying to convince the terminally uninformed.

Last point first, the actual people that will be prosecuting were in court today when Dufus was formally charged. It wasn't Bragg personally. But according to all the Law and Order I've ever watched, the District Attorney never personally takes stuff to court. It's always an Assistant DA. I watched Braggs statement and I think he did a great job explaining the charges and the logic behind them. Honestly I think the biggest problem will be keeping Magats off the jury. Just one will hang the jury.
