I read this post and it has me thinking of a podcast that I listened to a few years ago. The speaker was talking about the left and the right actions. He mentioned that the left usually is all emotion doesn't like being confronted with opposing opinion and when opposed they tend to get uglier and nastier in their interaction. The so called news is filled with it (although the news is now more of an opinion show) this board is filled with it. You and I have gone back and fourth with snide remarks which I do try do keep to a minimun I consider that beneath me. Back to your post I have given you no reason to say something like that I never mentioned I condone any of Trumps actions all I have ever done was point out a plausable explanation and for me if it is plausable then I will accept that vs any misdirected hatred to someone. I never said Trump was perfect I said he was better than the last 2 democrat presidents. I honestly believe it. I don't like most things the left does or spend money on.
Now to your question will I vote for Trump if he is the republican nominee I truly hope it doesn't come down to that. Right now I cannot fathom any democrat especially since I don't believe in democrat politics (that is what it really comes down to the political agenda not so much the person) I don't know of any third party yet and usually try not to vote for third party since they don't have enough power to fight the dems or repubs. With the way the Republicans are going I'm also thinking maybe independent. So I honestly cannot answer yet. Such as? Healthcare for other people to start

It is hysterical that you think you are a fair and balanced person. Your head is so far up trumps ass you are coming out the other side. And you still haven’t answered. After trumps comments regarding the constitution, are you still going to vote for him if he is the republican nominee? I read this post and it has me thinking of a podcast that I listened to a few years ago. The speaker was talking about the left and the right actions. He mentioned that the left usually is all emotion doesn't like being confronted with opposing opinion and when opposed they tend to get uglier and nastier in their interaction. The so called news is filled with it (although the news is now more of an opinion show) this board is filled with it. I was going to respond earlier but figured it would be pointless. Now that others have.... You really should try and find better sources. It is true that conservatives are far more motivated by fear than are liberals. It is also true that in general liberals are more educated and open-minded than conservatives, leading again to the conclusion that conservatives act on more non-rational impulses than do liberals. That all being said, I cannot imagine how anyone can seriously consider Donald Trump to be better than ANYONE we have had in this nation's history. He is uniquely horrible in virtually all respects. If you truly think that Donald Trump was better than either Obama or Biden, your opinion is so ridiculously twisted as to be unworthy of response. It is not about conservatism itself, since Trump is no more a conservative than he is a liberal in many areas. He is a mass of negative personal qualities but does not care one whit about anything other than himself. Conservatives have latched onto many of those negative qualities, whether they actually believe in them or are merely going along to feed their hunger for power. Arguable which is worse, but either way Donald Trump is not the answer to ANY question this country has as a way to improve who and what we are.

this is probably not the best time to bring it up.....
but we have been governed by the UDHR for three decades this year. here is what the UDHR says:
Article 25
1. Governments shall ensure that adequate health services are made available to the peoples concerned, or shall provide them with resources to allow them to design and deliver such services under their own responsibility and control, so that they may enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
we are bound THROUGH THE CONSTITUTION to this document.
The United States Constitution provides that the president "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur" (Article II, section 2). Treaties are binding agreements between nations and become part of international law.

It's not. It was an unforeseen but exploitable result of trying to get around wage and price controls in WWII. Bad idea then. Bad idea now. Interesting, care to educate me more? Sure. The short version is that after the U.S. entered WWII, the country began experiencing a labor shortage as so many people and materials were diverted to the war effort. There was a very real fear that companies bidding for workers would drive inflation to a much higher level. To prevent that, Franklin Roosevelt signed an executive order which froze wages. Some companies discovered that they could use benefits as an inducement as an alternative to wages. For whatever reason, the IRS declared that such benefits were not taxable, and the practice exploded. Soon many companies of any size were offering health insurance to entice workers, and the practice became more entrenched. President Truman later tried to get a national health care system into place but there was too much opposition. I'm not sure about the next part, but I think the IRS later tried to make those benefits taxable, but the Eisenhower administration didn't want that and went to Congress to lock it in place. We are thus left with a silly relic from WWII wage and price controls as our primary health insurance platform.

Besides, should you really be complaining much when you just admitted to intentionally using pejoratives about an entire group? Please, tell us again how far "above" that type of thing you are. That is not ridicule? No. Donald Trump is/was a uniquely horrible person and president. I have him as solidly the worst in American history, by a large margin. Professional historians who rank presidents only have him in the bottom four of all time, but his story is not fully written yet. I am convinced that they will drop him further as the years go by. While others have been bad people and bad presidents, including some who bungled us into the Civil War and others who advanced the cause of slavery, Donald Trump is the only one who ever actively tried to overthrow democracy in this country. Donald Trump is the only one who refused a peaceful transfer of power, which is one thing we have always taken a legitimate measure of pride in and been respected for around the world. He has had many other bigoted, nasty, undemocratic, un-American, and un-Christian words, actions, and policies to demonstrate his unworthiness for the office, but those two things earlier referenced are sufficient in themselves to call him the worst president we have ever had. Those things are a direct attack on what America is and what it stands for. In addition, he is the most corrupt person we have ever had in office, and may in fact be the singularly most dishonest and corrupt person in the country today. For anybody to fail to see even those most obvious things is unbelievable. There is NOBODY who has EVER been worse than Trump. Biden is average, while Obama is generally ranked close to if not inside the top 10. Conservatives' hatred of Obama is particularly silly, considering he actually governed as a moderate conservative. Their hatred is an indictment of how far they themselves have moved away from truth and reason. It is not an indictment of him. So yes, anybody whose opinion is so twisted that they can have Trump over anybody, much less someone generally ranked among our better presidents has demonstrated him/herself to be unworthy of debate. I will stand behind that statement every day of the week. Now, I certainly have ridiculed people in the past, when they deserved it. I'm actually pretty good at it. This wasn't that.

i wonder when i hear an opinion which diverges wildly from accepted norms whether a person is engaged in solipsism/narcissism, whether they live in such a small universe of opinion that they never hear anything other than their own beliefs, or whether they are just trolling me.
i think this is one of Rummy's unknown unknowns.

As with many or even most conservatives, there is a disinclination to re-examine a belief once it has been reached or inculcated. It isn't that they never hear anything other than their own beliefs, but they are generally stunningly incapable of listening to them.

I just want to say I you! This is such a well said explanation of everything wrong with Trump and the MAGAs.

There is NOBODY who has EVER been worse than Trump. he has been saying this same thing for at least a year, more likely 2 or 3, refining the wording. he gets it a little better, every time.

Many, many years ago Art Linkletter had a daily TV show in the '50s and '60s.
If I remember it correctly, one activity on the show was having a little kid go up to a glass case which contained a shiny penny, knickel, dime, quarter and half dollar. Then a dollar, ten dollar, and one hundred dollar bills were beside the coins in the glass case. Link letter would ask the little kid to pick one. Meanwhile a parent of the kid would be on stage too but not close to their child trying to get their child to pick the one hundred dollar bill.
More often than not, the child would pick one of the shiny metal coins.
trump was one of those shiny metal coins. Many trump voters only knew trump from hosting The Apprentice. They liked his 'You're fired!' They ignored all of his past and present bad behavior and failures and were focused only on his shiny coin persona.
The U.S. was worse off because of shiny coins.

I really liked this: Trump and his movement are symptoms of America's profound disorder — but not the cause. Especially: To some significant degree, the internet, social media and its algorithms, our ubiquitous smart phones and digital technology, and a larger media culture designed to drive what is euphemistically described as "engagement," damages people's ability to think deeply and critically about complex matters.

The U.S. was worse off because of shiny coins. we have fallen into the same trap in CA. we elected a B film star and arguably an A list action film star (both of whom had charisma beyond Trump, and one of whom was arguably a very good orator). neither of them were particularly qualified to run the state. nobody is immune to the shiny object syndrome.
