I don't know if this is the right board to post this but it does have to do with public money. The moderator can move it accordingly to the proper board. I certainly hope the taxpayers of NYC remember this at the polls in their election. This is a assault on our children. A old friend who is a former local school board member sent me these links.

I guess it's all "Uncle" Miltie's fault. There he was on prime time TV, flouncing around in a dress, wig and fake boobs. Obviously the start of mainstream drag.

The hatred seeping from that article is why things like this happen. From your article, the $ came from: The breakdown of expenditures includes $50,000 from the state government’s Council on the Arts, as well as $157,000 from city government agencies like the Departments of Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Community Development, and Transportation, according to the Post.Sounds like it is supporting the Arts and Community to me. Also, if you aren't teaching your kids about these things at home, someone else will.

It's not assault of any kind.
But of course continue to worry about kids seeing people in drag - the horror! If a straight kid sees someone who is gay or Trans it will make them be gay and Trans too! Forgetting the fact that queer people haven't been represented in media or even seen until recently because it was too dangerous to be out and open about such things. Decades of straight media, parents, and society didnt make them straight.
Keep worrying your pretty little head about this and ignoring the fact that White supremacists intended to cause at minimum a disruption, but more likely actual fucking assault at a pride parade.

Yeah, lets get our knickers in a twist about a few fashionably dressed people reading books to children, promoting literacy and learning. That's the absolute worst thing that could happen to them in school. Let's focus on that and ignore the elephant with the assault rifle in the classroom.

An assault? Reading to children at school is an assault? LOL. Aren't you a little drama mama. I remember right wingers bawling about this exact same thing YEARS ago. Even per the linked article it goes back to at least 2018. If it's still a shock to any parent in that school system they are pretty shitty at being involved, and that's the actual problem with their kids education. Thank goodness someone else is reading to them.

Assault? How is this an assault?
Unless parents point it out, my guess is the kids don't know it's someone in drag. I am sure the kids don't care until the parents make a unnecessary big deal out of it as you are.
Keep hiding your head in the sand. Funny you do this during Pride Month.

Come on people. This is clearly an attempt to legitimize the existence of people who are different than mainstream run of the mill ordinary folks.
Which, FWIW, I personally think is a good thing for public schools to do.

And being a good YM’re I’m wondering what the individual pay is? Divided between how many? I wouldn’t have had a problem with this when my kiddo was little. But I knew about drag queens back in the early sixties. Usually referred to as female impersonators. Sure there is a more definitive separation this day and age!

It's an assault on straight children to see and be aware that people who are not like them exist.... BUT it is not assault for those "others" to never see themselves represented and know they need to keep their mouths shut or else. That's just the proper order of the world. Because God forbid Timmy's parents have to acknowledge the world does not and should not revolve around them. Timmy isn't the problem, Timmy is probably quite open minded and accepting until the adults around him tell him it's wrong to be. I refuse to raise my children that way. I AM incredibly jealous of RuPaul though. No human should get to look that amazing as both genders, I can barely look presentable as one.

Dang! Don't adults pay big bucks to see shows with drag queens? OK, I was in Vegas a decade or more ago - and after we (a bunch of women) took in a male stripper show we took in a drag queen show - ok they called it an Impersonation show - but it was men in drag singing as Cher, Liza, a bunch of country singers (Dolly was one...), a couple of rock stars, and performing some scenes from famous musical movies. And here the kids in NY are getting to see it for free... ok, I'm guessing the drag queens are NOT showing up as Cher, Liza, or Dolly.... but I bet it's just as over the top, sensational, and glitzy beyond belief. I personally don't have a problem with it - as long as they don't serve the kids alcoholic cocktails.

I took Gwen to see Drag Queen Christmas last year. If I lived in Texas I'd probably be front of a judge right now.

That has been incredibly helpful with DH because he grew up in the 70s/80s and somehow has managed to never be around an openly LBGTQ person up until fairly recently.

Your biases against people of color and the LGBTQ community are really coming out this summer. If it doesn't personally affect you, how about MYOB.

I love the shows. Heck they are as good or better than the “real thing” sometimes.

Is it OK if I dress up as a big teddy bear and read books to kids? I don't want to be accused of assaulting children with overt fluffiness.

We have that here, too. It's very popular. What's the big deal? So kids are being read to by someone who looks different? So what? It's a lesson in tolerance and inclusivity. Will it scar them for life? OMG! They might grow up to be open-minded! The best babysitter I ever had was a drag queen. The kids used to help him get dressed and made up before a show. He was absolutely stunning! Tolenrance and inclusivity is not something you approve of, I guess. That's a shame.

Saw my first one in New Orleans in 64. Have been to ones in Vegas over period of 15 years. I love the shows. Heck they are as good or better than the “real thing” sometimes. I couldn't remember where in my "timeline" but we (the women) all were in NY taking in Broadway Shows and pondering some off Broadway shows. I'm pretty sure we considered a drag queen show as a back up if we couldn't get tickets to a "we're here to see this!" show... this was back before show ticket sales went digital/online and going to NY for a weekend of nonstop show going was a thing. The Drag Queen shows are a lot of fun! I wonder if Rip would object to the Blue Man group guys providing pantomimed and percussive accompaniment to someone reading a story OR just them acting out a story... to school children would be bad? We wouldn't want our children to stop talking and/or painting themselves blue -now would we? hee hee hee

I wish I had saved the link to it... there are businesses which forbid employees from wearing shorts. However, there's no prohibition from wearing skirts. So some of the male employees are wearing skirts to keep cool.
