And the shooting today....I just feel heavy. I was walking the dog and thinking about dd telling me about shooter drills. Ds never says much about them, but dd will tell me where and how they hide. Who cried during the drill. How she learned the right way to hide in a bathroom stall and to stay there no matter how long until a teacher gets you. This is so sad.

I know the world is always changing, but damn! Life is so different now, from when I was a kid. So much more violent. Scary! So sorry, raeoflyte. Hugs for those who need them. ♡

Good morning, empathetic invisipeeps. I hope your Wednesday is secure and safe for yourself and everyone you love.
I want to howl. I keep thinking of my own kids in elementary school, and their friends, and my nieces and nephews, and the children and grandchildren of friends. I don't understand how we allow a world so depraved as to permit hunting with guns of small children. There can be no rationale that supports this, yet here we are. Again. It hurts.

Good morning! I'm going to spend some time with dad today. I need to get the questions book we used and type all the questions we answered into the life document. I can take my time doing that as at least the life story has been typed up. One of the good things about doing this is that dad has become more talkative about his life. He shares more of his interesting stories while we're sitting around and it's good. Last week we had a conversation about how I felt about him being away so much while I was in high school.
I still need to do a lot of baking. Hopefully I can get one or two batches of cookies made this afternoon. I'm going to need a nap, though. The boy kept waking us up last night. We had some storms come through and he just doesn't like the thunder and lightning. We've tried a thundershirt on him, but that makes him even more crazy. He just wants to lick us and be petted, but that's frustrating at 10 pm, again at 1 am, then again at 3 am. DH and I are both worn out this morning from it. Hoping you all have a happy hump day!

The first time Mister and I checked the mailbox here, it was a couple of days after we moved, and we were outside at night talking about lights and stuff and wandered up to the mailbox to get the mail out. The mailbox is encased in brick, and in a flowerbed. That night, there were huge bugs running around the bricks surrounding the mailbox, and at least 3 more INSIDE the mailbox when Mister opened it. Needless to say, we left the mail in there that night. A few months later, while DS was visiting, him and DD took pictures and video of all the HUGE spiders hanging from webs in that flowerbed. Pictures and videos I never looked at, and told them to show Mister instead of me. A friend of mine moved to the desert Southwest and not too long after moving into her place she went to get the mail at the group mailbox in the center of the cul de sac and two scorpions fell out of the advertising insert that was inside the mailbox. That would do me in. It did her in, too. She got a PO Box. At least the scorpions did her a favor and fell out of the insert before she took it into the house. I hate bugs. And scorpions, tarantulas, and snakes. Just for the record. I hate them all. Don't try to tell me how beneficial they are to the ecosystem. That happened to me in Mexico. I lost my shit.

The thought process being that the drills are in and of themselves traumatizing and in the event something actually did happen, probably not all the helpful anyhow.

I’m sick. It’s probably strep. In four decades I’ve never built an immunity to it. I get it every few years. However, I’ll have DH bring a COVID test home today. Today is day three. Sore throat, headache, fever, runny nose, cough deep in chest.

Dark gray skies but warmish (mid-50's). No rain in the forecast so I'm tempting fate and hanging the wash on the line. I need to vacuum the stairs and determine which stair treads need the carpeting restapled when the handyman comes next. Cleaning the bathrooms and dusting also need doing. Such excitement for today.

And I have covid too! We are both nearly asymptomatic. I also don't think we caught it from DH and DS. It's been too long. However, I am missing every huge thing for my children this week.

Hugs. DS and her family are re overnight now. Seemed to be worst for youngest, which is different than past variants Weirdest issue was with DD and her DH losing smell, they didn’t notice when youngest had poopy diapers.

The joys of home ownership. My garage door opener on the double-bay side had a broken spring and for the last few weeks I've been using the single bay (for which I can't find the remote). So.. back the car out of the single bay, get out and go through the garage, use the wall control to close the single-bay door, go through the house, lock up, get back into car. Reverse when I arrive home. The garage door guy showed up and replaced the springs, but... the motor is shot. The unit is 25 years old, and I'd noticed that the last time it worked it was running VERY roughly- probably from the strain of pulling up a door with a broken spring. That's gonna be expensive. At least now I can use the double bay although I have to get out and lift the door up. I can deal with that. They're almost done installing the replacement windows. Good thing- I think I'm going to need a nap this afternoon. I have a Zoom meeting to run this evening. One piece of good news: I lost my vaccine card in Europe (yeah, it was a bad trip for losing things) and needed to replace it. I sent an e-mail to the hospital where I got the first 2 doses and got an immediate reply- sure, they could send it to me. Did they have my correct mailing address? Wow. Usually "info@xxx.com" is a black hole. If that hospital weren't 75 miles away I'd switch over to them for my health care. I'll need to get CVS to replace the booster record but that should be easier.

DH went out this morning to find the front of his hunting blind in shreds. The blind is about 40 yards from the house. We think a bear is back in the area again. We have deer, elk, coyotes, cougars and the occasional black bear in the area so I always carry my S&W Lady Mag when I take the half mile roundtrip to the mailbox/newspaper sleeve in case of an unexpected encounter.
giramomma - Hugs to you and missy.

Yeah, my son was out on an easement behind his house. They are planting a garden back there and a black bear came out of the woods. I told him be careful as it could be a mama bear and they can be mean.
He is in Washington state so they are other critters are around, he said there are cougars there too.
We have bobcats and many years ago used to be bears here but not for a 100 years. They have seen them east of us. I figure the as less and less people live in the country we will see them again.

Aw carp! If you haven't already done so, give your doctor a call. One of DH's relatives tested positive recently, and there are more treatments available now so things don't get really ugly. So sorry you're dealing with this.

Mine cost more than that but I went with a franchise (Overhead Door) when my regular handyman couldn't get the springs- perpetually on "back order". And I paid a little extra for the one with smartphone interface.

Maybe your state has the same feature? I checked it out thinking I would never keep up with that card! My office, though, is also inside the public health building and they told me if I ever lost my card they would just give me another one.

I checked the site and there's a form I have to print out, fill in (not fillable on-line) and FAX it to them. My tax dollars at work.

So a bit of lighthearted thinking for today. If you are a Percy Jackson fan this came up during lunch today. What happens when a Pegasus in flight goes poop? The debate was do you come out one morning and see a giant pile of poo on your car or would the effects of the Mist extend to Pegasus poop and instead you'd see like an AC or a piano or really big bird poop dropped on your car? Cause hoof prints appeared as hoof prints on Paul's car when Blackjack landed on it they didn't change to hail dents. We know this because Paul confirms it after Percy reveals what is going on in New York during the final battle. So does that also apply to horse poop? These are the questions Rick Riordan needs to answer.

I don’t feel too good. It started last night. I kinda feel like I have a cold. My allergies have been something terrible lately, so maybe it’s just my sinuses acting up again. Whatever it is, I don’t have time for it!

Dang it. Made it two full years, but I can now join the ranks of COVID-19 positives. I'm sorry. I hope it's mild. The missy has been playing as normal all day today. I'm just tired. Considering the last week I've had though, I'm not even sure how that could be construed as a symptom.
I think I also figured out where we picked it up...either at the grocery store or at a play area that I took the Missy to so we could burn off some energy.
