Besides winning and seeing friends, the best thing that happened at the game happened to one of the school kids sitting in the next section. This little boy, in his school uniform, was going wild every time they tossed t-shirts to the crowd. He was short and behind our team bench and they never saw him, even though several of us kept pointing at him.
Well, they were giving away a pair of Air Jordans and he was the winner. I had heard them telling the kids to make sure and sign up. He went even wilder when his name was called. I was so happy for him. He was 6 or 7 and so happy. He only came back to get his coat even though his school didn't leave until later. I hope he was celebrating with his friends.
That young boy had the look of pure job on his face.

One of the project leads I work with suggested that the team go out and get drunk after our project is done. I really do like the team and that particular project lead, but I was a little shocked at the suggestion. I just don't see that as appropriate.
I guess I like being considered one of the guys. And I have made inroads to the boys club, which is no small feat. It took several years.
It is almost 2023. Isn't it time we get over Madmen culture? I work with a bunch of women. We’ve wanted to go out afterwards and have a few drinks. 🤷♀️ why haven't you yet? 🤷♀️

Or let's hang out at such and such a place. Or let's celebrate. But, not let's go out and get drunk enough that we can't drive.
We also don't know each other super well. There's a few people I would feel. comfortable getting flat out drunk around. Only one of them is a co-worker.
I guess I also err on being conservative. If I don't know someone well enough to know if suggesting a night of drinking is OK, then I'm not going to do it. (Unrelated, its the same reason I no longer suggest actual food gifts to folks you don't know well enough to know if they have a limited diet for (medical) reasons.

I don't know. There's been a lot of talk of going out and getting drunk as a team after we're done with this project. I've worked with most of these people many years and I'm not sure anyone really means falling over can't drive drunk as much as just hanging out at a bar and celebrating and if some have some serious PTSD and did mean it, well, it will make for good stories.

I only went to one place, I was almost always the only woman. The guys went on to other bars. And they did get falling down drunk. Partly due to metabolism (Asians sometimes metabolize alcohol slowly) but mostly to lots of Scotch

Wow! My heart is full. Thank you for your responses to my book! You are indeed beautiful people. I trust your children/grandchildren will enjoy it. My DD told me, I love it, Mom, and I'm 36. So there you go.
Now I'm going to tear up.

I’m weighing my options. Two nights of -47 to -51 C lows was too much for the vehicles so I don’t have a ride to work My choices are: - Wait around and hope things warm up enough for the van to be boosted and start - Call a cab which probably won’t get here for a couple of hours and pay 2 or 3 hours of pay to get to work - Combo walk/bus which will be either two 10 minute walks and 1.5 bus ride or one 20 and one 10 minute walk and a one hour bus ride. Assuming the buses are running their usual schedules I have my work computer with me so I can do a couple of things while I’m waiting. However a software change by work’s internet provider and another by Windows means that we can’t log on to the server out of office. Thank god payroll was completed yesterday Thats insane! I will try not to complain about our 0 degree weather.

Technically both kids have piano lessons tomorrow night and I have an iron infusion I'm hoping doesn't get canceled. Dojo canceled for tomorrow already and I really think piano will too, or we'll just decide to skip if they go to zoom. But that really means except for my job we are done through new years. How are we at the end of 2022?
Hopefully in the down time I can get a good amount of time in at the rec center and of course time with the dogs. Ideally some house work too.
I've had a really blessed year. Hoping 2023 continues with the good and we can work in even more.

I'm starting to wonder if we will fly out tomorrow evening, not leaving till about 6. Hope the snow and ice doesn't close in on us in Indi or Seattle.
I miss my kitties, hope they are warm enough and not being tormented by barking dogs. I keep thinking I see Smoke starting to climb up beside me.
The barometer is falling like a rock, I can feel pins and needles and pain in my joints. My wrist joints right now and my toes. It will get worse as it falls rapidly.

Good morning, illustrious invisipeeps, wending your ways through the holiday week. I hope your day is joyous and healing, and offers you dessert worthy of your attention. I thank you all so much for your response to my little book. It means the world to me, to have it distributed and enjoyed by children all over. I am really moved. My hopes for each and all of you are that you and those you love enjoy health, wealth in the terms most meaningful to you, and joy in your life right now and in the days to come. Today DD arrives from Maryland. I'll pick her up at the airport after noon. And DS did, I believe, leave NYC yesterday for Columbus, which will bring him if all goes well to Topeka today. He was casual about when exactly he'd leave. He listened when I warned him about the weather out west. I'm so glad I planned a route for him south of the worst of the weather. Yesterday was cold enough to hurt my hands even with gloves when I was down at the beach with Franklin the Dog. We did get pictures of tiny dinosaurs in the water. Later in the day DH gave me an early Christmas present: heated gloves! Take that, 20 degrees in the wind. Here are three tiny dinosaurs from yesterday.

I had some heated mittens years ago. Even on clearance, they cost me a small fortune. I was SO disappointed! Although they were heated, they didn't even come close to keeping my hands warm. They kept my hands dry, that was about it. Hopefully, the technology has come a long way, since those days! Please post back and tell us what you think of them! Thanks!

It's still something I wouldn't do, again, not knowing folks.
Shoot, I don't even talk about my kids much, with people I don't know, until I get clear signals that it's OK to talk about my kiddos.

I can remove my glove, take a few shots and get the glove back on with no pain setting in. I'm really pleased! I know DH did a great deal of research before he got them, settling on Savior Heat. He was anxious to know how they worked.

And neither car will start. I'm stuck without transportation.
I have vacation but I have work up to my eyeballs that is sitting there because I can't get in. Everyone else wanted to stay home and take Friday off so they dumped all their stuff on the lab so they could not worry about work.
I want to cry. I'm not nearly ready for Christmas, I'm overwhelmed at work and now the stupid fucking weather.
Oh and I'm still sick. I can't breathe out my nose.
I hate this year. HATE IT.

Weather took a turn, thankfully, so no ice as of yet but there is about 2 inches of snow and it has started snowing pretty good again. I don't have anywhere to go today, but DH called when he got to work and said roads were pretty good.
May need a nap today, as once again I was awake at 2am for a couple of hours. Other than that, going to work on wrapping the few gifts I have.

I'm going to try again in an hour then see if my dad can help. If I go in late it's better than not at all. DH is annoyed with me. I'm sorry but he's one of those office people who can do his job anywhere work doesn't pile up. AND he gets tomorrow off too. I don't get either of those things. And he also doesn't understand how truly bitter I am about work in general since 2020. I absolutely get why people "don't want to work". Today is a huge fucking trigger because it reminds me of how it's been made crystal clear people in jobs like mine are considered disposable robots. I'm burnt out and I'm missing my mom. Then thanks to the stupid weather, me screwing up our budget and DHs inability to plan I'm probably not getting a present or a stocking. But I'm busting my ass for everyone else. He did do good with my birthday though so I shouldn't be ungrateful. I wish I still worked at Creighton they give you the whole week of Christmas and all the way till New Year off. Unfortunately they pay horrid.

DH bought me a Venture Heat heated zip hoodie that I've used for 2 years now which I love, but with losing over 30 pounds last year I could use a smaller size. I will likely stick with what I know, but when I checked out the Savior Heat site I saw that they have heated knee braces. DH has knee issues and wore one of his braces on his right knee to work this AM, so I ordered him a set.

I've been awake all night. Haven't slept yet. It's going to hit me like a ton of bricks, before long, I think. Then I'll sleep the day away, without getting anything done. This is not a good time of year, to sleep your day away, when you have so much to do. I did get 3-4 loads of laundry done and put away, last night. So that's good. But my closet door fell off again, and that's not good! I hope they come fix it, today. It creates an issue getting my bathroom door open and closed, when it's off and I can't access my washer and dryer either, or the things in that closet. (I only have 1 bathroom.) 🤞

Thankfully, we me being sick, I've been out of meetings where I get to hear folks say that no one works between Christmas and New Years. I could work now-when the kids go back to schools straight through every day and still not get caught up. And there is just more coming. I don't know why folks are so tone deaf.
There's a comparable unit on campus to my little team that announced they have shut down completely. I am amazed.

Uber or other lab coworkers if your car still won't start. You're close to the office and they get it. Big hugs!

Well, my plans of not doing anything with the snow until Saturday after the winds calm down is a bust. I just brought the garbage bin back and there is a huge berm at the end of the driveway from the plow. I'd better at least take care of that over lunch hour today or nobody will be able to get in or out if there's an emergency. The 6 inches or so on the driveway can wait. I'm guessing that after tomorrow it will all be drifted around anyhow.

We're crazy busy leading up to Christmas, but could easily close between Christmas and New Year's. State agency so we can't close, but we can run on a skeleton crew. It's usually a good time to catch up on podcasts and clean up your office clutter.

I talked to my boss I'm staying home. She said not worth it in this weather.
I let boss boss know too.
We should get lucky with no submissions today so that will leave me what I already had. It gets done when it gets done.
I could use the rest and it gives DH and I time to deal with the cars.
The thing is above technician a lot of our lab can work from home. My job is one of the handful that can't and it sucks. Even if I went in likely most everyone else will be home so nothing is getting done anyhow.
And we're so backed up it's not like me coming in today is going to make a difference.
Speaking of tone deaf an email went out last week from corporate praising all the hard work of the office people and as a reward they can all work from.home.
We get nothing. The least they could have done is tossed a snow day for the people who have no choice but to come in.
Nope instead it was a lecture about the importance of work.
Clueless. I told DH I can tell his company EXACTLY why they can't get production staff if I thought for a second corporation's would actually take the feedback.

I'm sorry, I feel all of this. I wish I could make it better for you somehow.
The department that closes has it right and is the manager I'd be clamoring to work for. My industry is notorious for poor work/life balance. I hate how much I've given them, but I'm employed right now when thousands aren't.
