We couldn't get out, went to a bridge over I 45 and saw the traffic far as the eye could see we stayed. And a cop there said best to stay home. People ran out of gas, abandoned cars, it was a mess. Churches, schools, every place trying to put them up.

Hubs got his ultrasound yesterday of lower abdomen and organs there. We will see next week what the results are. I hope the cancer hasn't spread into other organs, they said there was a small amount of blood in his urine.
This afternoon going with DIL and grandson to pediatrician for a check up. He hasn't gone but once since being up here. Son called and asked me if I wanted to go. DIL just doesn't understand what they are saying to her a lot of times because of her not grasping all they are telling her. So I'm going. She gets frustrated, then they all become a**holes according to her and gets mad and says the docs here won't do anything, sigh.
Maybe tomorrow we can work on the house. I couldn't get in to my primary till November, just wow. DD is going Monday. We need to get all these caught up.
Hubs and decided to do the ceilings in DD's bedroom, both bathrooms, and the office before we continue in here. I will work on painting doors and woodwork. We need to finish totally the ceilings before we move on to sidewalls.

My classmate and her husband got out of Sarasota and made it to Savannah, but I think I would have went further north. She said it took them 12 hours to get there. They're probably exhausted after all of that traffic, but I agree that I'd be heading further North.

By election day my FB feed will be only ads as I'm unfollowing and snoozing folks right and left. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I'm entitled not to see it as I would prefer to think some folks have a brain cell left. Just snoozed a realtor friend who posted a blast against homeowners with solar panels, standby generators, or electric cars, you know, those left-wing elitist toys. Of course, when we lost power for a week or more after Hurricane Beryl, she left town to stay at her country home Only Democrats buy standby generators? Who knew? Now they are suggesting that people with electric cars should have the reverse ability to back up the power from your car to your house/the grid in times of emergency. DH's Ford Lighting will do that, but he never installed the charger that is capable of reversing the power to the house. We have it, it is still in the box. We already had a Charge Point Charger installed when he bought his truck. We will decide what to do in a few weeks. You know how Republicans Vote Against stuff, and then are first in line to reap the benefits of the bills Democrats pass? If you drive through Farm County in IL, everyone has windmills all over their farmland. I wonder sometimes how willing they all are to really kill all these energy bills.

My In-laws' English is good enough to get through most things in life, but Medical and Financial stuff like a house purchase/finance DH usually is on hand to translate. I was ever so thankful that the Banks we dealt with at the time were very accommodating and never disrespectful to them. It used to be that they wanted the minority loans on their books (and my in-laws have stellar credit), but not sure those laws are even a thing anymore. They usually offer a phone translator, at least most hospitals do. Your son should encourage her to take advantage of that whenever it is available.

Savannah GA? this storm is tracking to curve right/level out after making landfall, Savannah should be fine. a friend of mine from Sarasota left yesterday and is camping out in Atlanta with some other mutual friends. it took K a long time to get there, too. I've got a bunch of friends still in Tampa-ish that all made the decision to stay put. they have all cited how far inland and elevated, and they all that their hurricane shutters up. I really hope that wasn't the wrong choice for any of them. 🤞🤞

I honored my boundaries today, and walked away from my laptop when the "meeting" reminder popped up to go walk the pups at 1130am. I'd been ignoring that lately, and I no longer GAF unless something is literally on fire. we walked all around the park where finnime had her recent craft fair (the one I couldn't get anywhere near) and up the street a ways. I love the views from this street, it overlooks the beach and bay, and all of the boat slips. when there's no wind, the water is like glass. I also got word while we were out, that I've been selected to move on to the panel interview for Fridays phone screen. it would be on zoom, and the recruiter specifically said "camera on' so i need to answer him after I get off this 90min production call. the camera on my work laptop has never worked, and I haven't messed with it on my tablet. I'd have expected an in-person panel interview, so this is kind of weird. I don't intend to take this position if it's offered, but I would like the interview experience to help freshen up my skills there.

What an odd flex. A generator is just a good idea in general but in some places it is rapidly becoming a need. You have fun sitting in the dark being miserable with no way to cook food. That'll totally show the liberal elite.

Ugh. My phone service got discontinued today, in error. I can't call, or text. Thank goodness I still have internet access.
I'm in the process of getting things connected again. It's SO frustrating!

I am taking a break. I spent the early morning hours procrastinating, which of course was a bad idea, given all the stuff I needed to do today.
I forgot to ask Mister to get the suitcases down for me last night. But I’ve done the hardest part of packing for me, figuring out what I’m taking. That is stressful because a lot of my clothes don’t fit right anymore, now that I’ve acquired a big belly. But that’s done now.
I’ve done all my grooming except for painting my toenails. For some reason, I hate doing that even though I like for them to look nice.

Entered my CC bill in Quicken. It was more than usual because we had to replace the front outside hose bib and I made 3 campaign donations. Then I activated DH's new Visa card and updated his toll road account with the new expiration date. And explained to him once again why they send me a card too - he can't talk to them on the phone if there's a question or problem and they won't talk to me unless I am an authorized user . I showed him where the previous card still sits in the file cabinet unused, and made him watch me put the new one in there too. He asked if the second card affects his credit score and I told him honestly I don't know but I don't think so. He's 800+ so if it's harming his score so be it

I am just stunned at the total arrogance of people who want to deny others the ability to purchase something just because they don't want it for themselves. I don't need or want a Ford F-350 dually but I don't demand Ford quit producing them because lots of other folks do need them for their lifestyle and job. We don't have EV's but a lot of neighbors do and that's none of my business. I have the generator because I don't have a beautiful country home to escape to when storms hit. As you might imagine, we are NOT using this realtor when we sell our home The EV hating crowd is ridiculous. I have friends with a Lightning in FL and they just laugh at all the EVs are useless in a hurricane BS posts while their truck is powering their house for days. Meanwhile I just saw that cars are running out of gas trying to flee Tampa in the gridlock and the gas stations have run out. I thought gas vehicles could go forever through anything?

You know what would REALLY own the libs?! Ending global warming. Then we wouldn't need all these high fluting generators, solar panels or electric cars because we cured the problem they are trying to solve! Yeah . . . Off to start a Facebook chain now. Think we can get a certain someone to run with it during his next rally if we really highlight how much it would own Libs if he single handedly saved the entire planet? He could make tons of NFTs of him grafted onto Captain Planet's body.

I just broke my own rule: no new small electric appliances until after I move (in 2 to 2.5 years). I have walked away from several items I really wanted but...my toaster is toast. So today on prime day I got the cheapest toaster I coyld find, threw the few rewards bucks I had at it and tomorrow I'll have a new toaster. Grand total is only $12.69 sso barely anything but it did break my rules.
Now to stay away from that air fryer at Costco that I really, really want!

I'm looking at ipads on primeday but I think they jacked the prices up. Ds asked for one so he can get sheet music digitally so it doesn't have to be an iPad but I'd like a good size screen.
Im trying to come up with other things to shop for but the kids are being impossible. Lol.

Last night, Mister told me that some things are going to have to change when I get back after my trip I said “I’m glad you said that, because that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking”. That seemed to catch him off guard lol.
I told him “you have a problem with me having issues that keep me from functioning like I normally would, but when I tell you specific things you can do to help me not have so many issues, nothing changes. I am NOT ever gonna be okay in a cluttered, dirty house with a bunch of negative energy. I’ve been waiting on this trip, to get a break from all the bs, and had already said we were going to have to sort some shit out when I get back.”
I don’t think that went the way he thought it would lol. Other than the night my feathers for ruffled about the stupid nonstick pan, that’s probably the most I’ve said to him at one time in a month or so. I wasn’t bothered last night, I just said what I wanted to say and went on about my business.

One of DD’s friends is on a cruise ship somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico right now. The ship is going to just hang out in the Gulf until the hurricane passes, instead of trying to reach their destination (somewhere in Mexico, I think). They left Sunday.
DD is worried about him and his family, and so am I, because he is one of the nicest guys ever, and has been a very good friend to DD, even though they are platonic friends.

Right before we left for Ireland, I realized my flat iron is not dual voltage. I wound up buying a cheap one in Dublin. IME, hair dryers, flat irons and kettles that are 220V from over there are much better than the ones here.

Which air fryer? I have a Ninja Flip Toaster Oven and Air Fryer that I bought at Costco a couple of years ago. I love it the various functions. It flips up when not in use which saves counter space.

We did a hurricane-dodging cruise some years back and it was fantastic. We are immune to seasickness as were most in our group so we partied hard while everyone else holed up in their cabins. Carnival marked down everything - food, drinks (even premium booze), spa treatments, deluxe seating at the comedy club and music shows - for anyone who would attend. Also the best night's sleep we've EVER had with the Gulf rocking us. Your friends will be safe as those ships don't take chances.

Yes! It was weigh in day at work and for the first time since 2019 I'm not in the obese category. I've still got a ways to go to not be considered overweight, but this is a big win. I've been working really hard at this since August 1st and lost over 10% of my body weight. Cut Diet Pepsi consumption in half, went from no water to 50-60 ounces a day. No fruits and veggies to 7 servings a day. No exercise to trying to get at least a couple mile walk in every day and a more of a workout hike at least once a week. I need to shake things up though because I've been kind of stuck at the same weight the past couple weeks.
Yay! Congrats!

And I also don't like the idea of buying something, that should last me a decade or more, just to give it away or even worse toss it in a few years. My "toasted toaster" was over 20 years old and very well used. As a single household my bread tends to dry out and that's when I grab the toaster the bread in my future

when my parents lived in Houston, they had to evacuate for Hurricane Rita. It took them 13 hours to go 50 miles. Wow. How scary and frustrating that must have been. It was a terrible time for many. "A bus ferrying nursing home residents away from Hurricane Rita caught fire and exploded while stuck on a gridlocked highway south of Dallas, killing as many as 24 people1. The bus, run by Global Limo of McAllen, Texas, was taken out of service in July after its registration expired2. Preliminary evidence suggested that the blaze was caused by mechanical problems, compounded by exploding oxygen tanks3. The company that owned the bus was found guilty of conspiring to falsify logs and poorly maintaining its fleet" Our friend's mother survived but was badly traumatized. The standard wisdom here is "Run from the water, hide from the wind" which means if you will be hit by storm surge leave, if not, hunker down. This is the choice we face every year because evacuation is not really feasible for most of us.
