I think the hail was 2 1/2 ft deep, or more. And was the size of ping pong balls. Lots of flooding. Streets were turned into rivers and people were kayaking in them. Tons of property damage. And damage to cars. It was about 5 miles from where I live and further (covered many miles), where it was the worst. It was crazy. But there were amazing rainbows afterward. Holy crap! I've lived in KS my whole life and have never seen anything like that! I've lived in SLC my whole life and never seen anything like it. I saw video today of a basement(?) apt that had severe water coming in around the window and was flooding the apt. Then the husband yelled about the window bulging and suddenly the window burst, from the force of all the water! Holy crap! They're calling it monsoon season. But we don't get monsoons. Or at least we didn't used to.

The woman who posted the photo sent me a 22 page research report on my 2x great grandmother and her family. It may have been a wedding quilt and I think I am looking for the wrong woman in the picture. It would be grandpa's first wife, not my grandma. His mother was the one where she lived after her husband died and took care of her until she died. Grandpa was the only child of his mother and her first husband. Her husband died in the Civil War. She remarried and had many children, but grandpa is technically an only child. The two of them were alone together for several years. I'm guessing that is how that quilt got passed down.
From 2x great grandmother to her daughter who cared for her. She is my 1x great grandmother. Then to my grandpa and somehow to mom. I will never know how it got to my mom.
Being all white, maybe it was a wedding present for grandpa and his first wife. Somehow seems it should have gone to one of their daughters, but it didn't.
All I know is that it is in my possession now.

I never saw hail like TMR is talking about in Boulder, but I have seen pictures of that kind of hail and that kind of damage.
Several of my co-workers were victims of those big hail storms.

TOMe that’s a fabulous find for your family. And you have a quilt she made! I have a tiny white wool knitted cap my grandmother made for my baby son. He had some medical problems and wanted him to keep warm She made many mittens for her children and grands. But I lost mine, cousin has quite a few. Somehow the unused white quilt was in mom's possession. I don't know of Blind Grandma gave it to her specifically or if she got it when things were divided up. It's never been used. Because mom smoked, it's not in pristine condition. Because of it's age, I am afraid to have it cleaned. It's her dad's grandmother and grandpa was much older than grandma. I had always wondered how Blind Grandma made a quilt, but now I finally know she wasn't blind all of her life. It was about the last 20 years of her life. I have a ton of older quilts. If they need to be freshened up, I just put them through the dryer on "no heat" to get the dust out, but if they need to be washed I use Orvus soap on the delicate cycle and then hang to dry. As long as the fabric isn't deteriorating to where it is coming apart, Orvus soap is probably your safest bet.

We need to find a dentist too up here. DD is ok, they fixed her tooth as it was hurting her. I have 2 that need caps and the dentist didn't have time to get me in, but he said I need to get them done or they are going to hurt, they are old caps.
We are doing the roof too, so 12k for the energy eff heating and cooling system, and $14k+ for the roof, so a lot of money and the last big purchases till we sell some houses or a house. Maybe solar after that and I want a quartz or some type of good countertop. Another cabinet door on the bottom fell off, the bottom attachment. Hubs said I wonder what they did to these to cause that. Have no idea. Ours are the same type hinges and none have ever fallen off and they are 21 years old. Looks like the very same cabinets inside and out. Also don't know what they did to mess up the finish on the bottom ones. yes, we can fix them, but just more to do.
Hubs is leaving this weekend for Indiana, next week he gets his PSA blood test, I am very concerned and I'm sure he is too.
Looks like DD still has her medicaid in Indiana, but I need to terminate that. Tomorrow we go back to finish her new bank account. The gal I'm dealing with is new and just learning. She has to keep asking her supervisor, but like I told her everyone has to learn sometime. I am harried for time but being very patient, she will get there and we will be ok.
Hubs and I straightened and swept out the garage. Fixed dinner, chili for us and a hot dog and and Mac and cheese for DD, so everyone is fed. Now I need to go to Dd's room and straighten and put away a lot of things of hers. I hope while hubs is gone straighten up a lot more stuff.
I may have to take a short nap though.

My favorite is a hat she knit for FIL. It is very plain. She had labels made with FILs name. The label is sewn into the knit hat.

Google "Quilt Soap." It is made for washing quilts without damaging them and is also great for use on other delicate items.

My mother-in-law is an avid quilter, and after she retired she started taking classes in identifying old cloth patterns and dating old quilts based on their fabrics.
Her mother was also an avid quilter, and when she developed Alzheimer's, she still loved to quilt. My MIL would go around to different estate auctions and buy up all the unfinished quilt tops, finish them, and then give them to her mother to do the hand quilting (where you sew together the top, the batting, and the back). They managed to finish more than 12 old quilts that way - enough for each of her brothers and sisters plus some to donate.

Got a lot of little stuff done this afternoon, laundry, emails, phone calls etc. Ordered new LED bulbs for DH's bathroom which was a whole other sort of weird. Tomorrow is cleaning, cooking, spraying weeds. I'm trying to think through social media stuff. I get the concept that a person's page is theirs to use to express themself. I'm not an easily offended Karen person, but when someone throws up photos of dying animals on their FB page ? I have lots of hunter friends, but they don't post pictures of the anything in its death throws. IMHO, it doesn't matter how many zeroes are in your net worth or degrees on your resume, if you want to show people your photos of dying creatures you are messed up.

A couple years ago I asked Mister if his daughters were registered to vote. My conversations about voting have not gone with my own children either, even worse that me encouraging Mister’s daughters to vote,
We are in a blue cornerof a red state, andi just feel like even if we can’t outnumber the rest of the state, it is still important for us to vote. For me, my vote sys that I disagree what what the6 are about and trying to do, and for now, my vote is ll I have.

I can tell you that you won’t find anyone who will clean it. I have a very old quilt I found of my grandmothers. Grandma smoked like a chimney, so the quilt stunk of cigarette smoke. I held my breath and washed it in the washer on delicate after soaking it a bit. It came out excellent. I’d have hated to lose it, but the cigarette smell made it utterly useless unless I did something. Thank you. I did buy some special soap that archivistists use on cigarette smoke. I think I will try that. Plus mom kept it in a plastic bag, which is not how it should have been kept. The cigarette smoke is a far bigger issue for me. It is in a sheet now. I took it out of the plastic bag. My Mom is off the deep end of quilting. She reports that quilts should be washed in the bathtub with a new plunger or similar appliance. The quilt can be spun dry in the washing machine on gentle and then hung to dry. I would wash it and display or enjoy it. It was made with love and meant to be enjoyed.

This is the second time tonight Smoke has curled up on me to sleep. And second day he has brought me a snake. He must be feeling insecure or happy to be home with me. He is an odd little cat, maybe he wants to make sure I won't leave him again which I won't. But I do need to go to bed soon and I hate to move the little sweetie.

Good morning, introspective invisipeeps, evaluating quilt cleaning, balancing your investments, extreme weather, travel and voting. Welcome to Friday! You made it another week. I hope this day goes well for you in all respects and you want for nothing. I've been listing all of the to-do's before we hit the road for the north shore. It's quite a list. It is doable, though. I am pleased to see the weather this weekend where we'll be is forecast to be fair. First thing is to bring Franklin the Dog to the beach. Later we'll bring him to ODB's for the weekend then double back and pack up the car. It's a good thing we have a hatchback or we'd never be able to do this. Yesterday I was notified that one of my pictures has been chosen for a gallery display in Huntington, NY, on Long Island. I'm really pleased. Also yesterday the weather started out foggy at the beach, near the ground, which filtered that red star, the sun. I got this pic:

Yesterday was just sucky.
Mom’s medicare advantage plan denied rehab, home health care, AND a wheelchair and commode. Reason? Her plan is for FL. She apparently doesn’t have coverage out of state aside from ER, and possibly the hospital stay.
So she is here, which was fun in itself figuring how to get her into our raised ranch. That problem is solved.
I can handle my mom in small doses. Not a possible 3-4 week stretch.
Just shoot me now.
One day at a time. Work has been understanding, but…

Need to buckle down and put the finishing touches on a presentation for Tuesday. But I don't wanna. ETA - I did discover this week that as much as I hate putting together the visuals for presentations, I hate even more when someone else just hands me the the finished power point and then I get to present it. Guess I should remember that.

More expensive but when you really need insurance it’s much better at payment and using any doctor or hospital you want So sorry your mom ‘s insurance is so limited

I've decided that real estate agents deserve hearty applause for some of the clients they have to deal with. A local agent is quite skilled in navigating the tricky waters of local seniors selling their homes when circumstances dictate different living arrangements. But yesterday she had to fire a client who simply raised up illegal barriers to virtually anyone seeking to view the property and rejected a valid offer. The client demanded the agent not book showings with POC which the agent said was illegal discrimination. Then, when anyone made an offer, the client wanted personal details about the buyer like age, employer, income, marital status, children etc. which the agent was not going to provide. And then the seller rejected an all-cash full price offer because she said anyone with that kind of money must be a drug dealer.
I think the poor agent hit up our Liquor Barn early in the day.

All cash offers usually mean the buyer is going to flip the house one way or the other. My last property was used as a rental for years. I ended up selling to a local builder who destroyed the home, regraded the property and built a million-dollar home on it. In the end though, it probably sold for $900K+ because the housing market downturn wasn't over yet. Those who have only bought one home and lived in it their entire adult life are often clueless about current market conditions and laws.
