In theory DH is tech capable but he is not as proficient as I am so I have most things both mailed and emailed so he can see them easily. Many places will no longer do that and I am concerned about what will happen if I'm not available to handle stuff received electronically. We used to share an email but had to get an electronic divorce when my volunteer work ramped up with a lot of confidential stuff he couldn't see. I loathe anything I have to deal with in person rather than online, other than some types of shopping like produce and clothes. I do draw the line at any app where I have to store my CC info to use it for shopping because I don't do financial business on my phone ever. I use Google Wallet for anything that I can... and thankfully, it's available at a lot more places these days. It seems a lot safer to me to tap my phone than use a physical credit card as the merchant just gets a virtual number and the actual data is encrypted and stored outside of my phone so even if someone finds my phone and is able to unlock it it's useless.

Okay yet again I forgot that Earl Grey has a lot more caffeine in it than the other forms of tea I drink. I am now vibrating. I can feel myself bouncing in my chair against my will.

Speaking of social media I made the mistake of clicking on a post going on about cow's milk. Wow there were A LOT of people in there going on about how pasteurization is a conspiracy to keep us from getting the full health benefits of milk. I've cultured raw milk. You DO NOT want to drink raw milk. You've gotten lucky if to date you haven't gotten sick. Wish I had kept some photos of some of the plates to be like "THIS is what you are drinking in the name of being "healthy" people" My grandma grew up on a farm. She said she wouldn't ever go back to drinking raw milk. She saw a lot of people get sick and women lose their babies drinking raw milk. She said why on Earth would you CHOOSE to drink raw milk? She drank raw milk not because they were health nuts who realized the value but because they had no other choice! She was always flabbergasted when we'd talk about this stuff that people would deliberately choose to go backwards rather than recognize what a miracle things like pasteurization and vaccinations truly are. My mom said the same thing. She also grew up on a dairy farm. She remembers when they got a small pasteurizer machine to use at home. She said it was such a relief because Drinking Raw milk was so dangerous and often caused serious illnesses. She also said the pasteurized milk tasted better. It is incredible that people think that researching a subject on Facebook or Instagram and reading "news" reports from biased sources is a good way to gather information, oh and a Liberal Arts Education has no value. I went to a college that was proudly a Liberal Arts College. The idea was that you had a broad base of learning and knew how to use critical thinking and research skills to keep up with the times, and be a good citizen.

I just hope we get a bidding war on our house when we decide to sell one day. Actually, I hope to do private treaty with my neighbor who's buying up lots of houses for his family. I don't mind inspection and will just offer a repair allowance for any defects found. Not spending my days bird dogging contractors doing work. My MIL got into a bidding war on her house. Her 4 BR, 2.5 BA 2600 sq ft house in a bedroom community of Vancouver had an elevator in it. Her realtor put it on the market at $1.2 million. MIL thought it was too low, but didn’t quite understand what her realtor was doing. The house sold for $1.7 million. The elevator brought a whole ‘nuther group of people into the bidding, which is why I suspect why she got so much more for it. I know the elevator was expensive to install and maintain, but think they made money on that too. MIL walked away with $1 million after buying her condo in downtown Vancouver. That $700k condo is now worth about $1.2 million now.

We saw them maybe 10-12 years ago. If they still have the same lead singer it’s a great story-little Filipino guy who sounds EXACTLY like Steve Perry. He used to make a living on Youtube basically doing Journey karaoke and no one believed he wasn’t just lip syncing. I was fortunate enough to see them with Steve Perry and later with the Filipino guy. It was unbelievable how much he sounded like Perry. I saw Journey in Boston in the late 1980s. They had Concerts on the Common and tickets were dirt cheap so got to see quite a few of these bands.

I know I drove. I'll have to ask N if she remembers when that was.

It's getting harder and harder for people to ignore technology. My neighbors that had no internet and no smart phones finally took the plunge a couple years ago because it was getting almost impossible to go to a professional football game or concert without a smart phone to store the ticket. Now they're sending videos back and forth to their son/grandson all the time on Snapchat. When I was on the cruise last year, tons of stuff like check-in, booking excursions, and communicating with others in our group was through the app.
My dad was proud of himself for figuring out gifs on his new smart phone. I told him stop it he's old it's weird to get gifs from him. Him having a smart phone is FANTASTIC because we both loathe using the actual phone so we text constantly. It drives DH nuts because he doesn't understand why we don't just call each other. That's me. If you want to communicate with me, text me. I don't talk on the phone. They only people I talk to on the phone are my parents and grandma. Everyone else can text me.

My 86 year old neighbor isn’t afraid of technology, but is a strange combination of new and old school. All of her banking is done in person, she goes to the bank monthly and knows the tellers at the bank. Everything is paid by check.
But the woman is an absolute whiz in buying and selling online investments, usually beating out her financial advisor. She doesn’t have a smart phone, but uses an iPad. She does use Facebook and recently video chatted with an old friend of hers from the Czech Republic. The woman adores online games and does most of the NYT’s offerings.
I hope I am still as much on the ball as she at 86.

You can be guaranteed that I am not ranting about government conspiracies. I have worked for the government in the past and currently do so. The government can't get everyone on board to do what they are supposed to do, let along run a vast conspiracy.

I grew up on a dairy farm so going down to the barn and dunking a bucket in the bulk tank was normal to me at my grandparents in the 70's. After my uncle took over the farm they quit doing that. If I remember right his town raised wife was the reason for that change.

OMG, the cheap fence lady 2 doors down just scored a free window air conditioner through a local program. The idea behind the program is to help the indigent elderly and handicapped have the ability to keep at least one room tolerable during outages, assuming they have or can get a small generator. As one of the richest folks on our block, I'm sure she'll sell it this weekend. She doesn't have a generator but I bet she'll find another program handing them out for free too.

In other news, I am using pie crust I got from the food pantry to do what my mom used to do with pie crust scraps. I am using one of the two pie crusts, as snacks. Dusted with cinnamon and sugar. Since I am both lazy and tired, I am using colored sugar with the cinnamon.

The temp and the time are lower than what's used for pasteurization. This is a regulation I know health food stores and all retail outlets in NJ have to follow. So safer than totally untreated milk straight from the cow and usually free of things like bovine growth hormone, etc.

For her it was no big deal, and she would sample milk right out of the pail. But not much. Most of that milk was sold and it wasn't the only farm related income. Mom liked to old school it I think because she had to milk cows in the morning before school and thought maybe I could learn. Maybe if I had been older, but that cow did try to kick her more than once.
