It says they can stink from rotted carcasses and spoiled meat. I think new laws are making them take precautions, but might be grandfathered or something. For me, would be a no, no matter how cheap.

You don't want to live by a rendering plant.
JBS has one in Greeley Colorado. It STINKS. Especially in the summer.
I gag when we drive through. No way I could live there.

I was going to stop sodas for good per what the doc told me. But this is not the time, non yesterday or this morning and I could hardly drag my feet. I told hubs going to have to keep drinking it and real sodas till this move is over. He carried up some stuff from the basement and I finished cleaning out the cabinets out there. Now I need to wash them out. Some shelves need sanded and painted as chemicals took the paint off, but I'm not going to stop and do that, just wipe them down. The cabinets are very nice on heavy duty wheels, shiny stainless fronts. We are thinking of them for fabric cabinets or use in the garage, so those are going. They were not cheap, seems like at least a couple hundred each and we have 4.
I will worry about hubs, he too is tired and has worked his tail off. He is going to stay at least a week and spend it with little guy. Also plans to help son straighten his yard up for him.
But I am making progress. Hubs said hire some young guys to carry stuff up from the basement if I want. I don't last coming up the stairs too many times. I'm just pooped out. Right now came in for orange juice, cool air, and kicking back for a bit, he did too. We are both worn out. He says oh you can't take a lot. I asked him, have you looked at what I'm getting rid of, yes. I put boxes full of half bottles and cans of stuff last night and they are gone so put out more. I don't know who is taking it and don't care but they are going to be supplied with stuff for a long time.
I think by next Friday I will have a lot out. Hubs said for the next 6 weeks have a sale every 2 weeks. I am. I'm not going to be cooking much, so I'm going to see 2 people involved with charities or know local people in need and will clean out the freezers, give away most of it and just keep some for us. We are not taking the huge freezer, will buy a smaller one up there later. Same with canned goods. We will eat a few things, but DD and I will likely eat one meal a day out and we generally only eat two.

Also not near a place that raises turkeys or chickens, the odor is awful. Of course the owner said smells like money to him. But sure doesn't to others.

countrygirl2, YES, definitely hire some younger guys to move stuff out of any inconvenient places for you. When cleaning out my parent's house, Dad had a ton of stuff lodged in the rafters of the garage, and I couldn't get to most of it. I hired 2 guys to get the stuff down to the garage floor, and that was some of the best money I spent on cleaning out that house.

giramomma , feel free to think out loud. As the parent of a child special needs, I feel like I've only got "one chance" to get it right too. It'll probably end up being less than perfect, but DH seems content to kick the can down the road, while I'd prefer to have all of this stuff figured out yesterday. I would like to add another bathroom to our current house, but everything is so crazy-expensive now with remodeling, I am having a difficult time deciding if that's really what I want to do with our money. Like, is our money better spent on just buying a house in a better neighborhood with all of the bathrooms/bedrooms we'd like to have? The problem is, perfection is the enemy of action, and I tend too often to wait for the "perfect" time, which never really happens.

The remark that the previous purchaser couldn't get financing is a big red flag that the property did not pass inspection. It does have a lot of potential if you can get it for the right price and are willing to do a lot of updates over time. On the plus side, the roof and siding look decent. The lack of bathroom photos is scary though Yeah, I'm not doing it. I looked at the house on Colorado and I really like it. I'm putting in an offer. We'll see if they take it.

Well, I have had a lousy day. Woke up to the smell of septic back up and was terrified to go down to the basement, but for the most part it was mostly dry. The floor drain in the mechanical room was backed up and the storage room had standing gray water, but the rest of the basement just stunk. The whole house, and even the garage reeked of sewage, so no AC and open windows for me today. My drainfield is failing and oversaturated with rain, but the root problem that my ex discovered was there was no power to the pump in the septic tank! The power to the tank runs off an outside outlet and the contractors had disconnected all the outlets, so it's probably been without power for a week or more. The thing that really gets me is that the damn tank alarm didn't go off. I should have had plenty of warning that it was getting too full. Ex said he could pull the pump and fix it if DS came home to help, but I think I'm going to get a plumber. It will cost me, but Ex still has a lot of struggles with things since his accident and he's already going to do all the electrical finish work for me. I haven't ventured back in the storage room yet to start cleaning. Not looking forward to that task.

I'm trying to get all the stuff out of the garage to make room for boxes of stuff we want to take with us. I've done pretty good today, going to do a bit more, then take a bath and rest. Right now I'm setting it up for a sale and outside too. Likely will have a second sale out there in 2 more weeks. I'm pricing most at $1 unless otherwise marked. We have to get rid of all this, just can't keep it.
My roses are sad, I dusted them and watered about 1/3 of the landscaping, will need to take a day and weed it all. But hoping it cools down enough to do it. We are almost in a severed drought, the corn is tasseling and its way early for that.
I did buy some sweet corn today, first picking, should be good I hope. No tomatoes yet.

Simon is so, so stubborn. He's horribly constipated. The pharmacist gave him something to drink, but he won't drink it because it's 'nasty'. Melody tried giving him an enema, but his butt cheeks slam shut like a bear trap at her approach. Many people have given him advice about the importance a healthy diet, but he lives on hot dogs at the car shows. I told him he wouldn't live very long, and he came up with a very mature retort. "Take it back!" What kind of adult thinks that yelling "Take it back", nullifies the point being made? Ridiculous. He doesn't want to listen to anybody. He won't live long, and I won't take it back. Everyone must eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. He doesn't eat five servings in a year. He had a banana back in February, I think. I didn't raise him like that.

That's awful its probably been disconnected that long. I hope you get it fixed soon. Would be miserable anytime of year but during this heatwave has to be yuck.

There is an old cottage across the street that has been vacant for a few years, since the previous owner passed away. DH has mentioned a few times how he would really enjoy buying it and fixing it up so we would have a nice view instead of an eyesore across the street. So today there is an sign that it will be up for auction next month, and we had a long talk about whether he is up for all the work of trying to fix it up and rent it out. We don't have the money to just buy it and hold it, so we would need to rent or resell it after it looks nicer. It is very early yet, but he is going to contact the auctioneer to see if we can get inside of it to take a look around. It has peeling paint and some creative roof patches that we can see from the outside, and it looks like several additions have been cobbled together onto the back side of it. Also at some point the power company came through and removed the electric meter. DH has finished all the really necessary work on our current home, but hasn't started any of the fun upgrades that he has been wanting to do.

No town where a packing plant is has a pleasant smell. It can stink any time of the year, but it's worse during the summer. The wind blows that smell a long way. I think the packing plant in Longmont does poultry now. It stinks, too.

I had a good day until 2:30 when DH decided to go off the rails because he wanted to talk about Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" and I said I didn't agree with some of the basic assumptions in the story. If you can't handle polite disagreement on philosophical issues, don't raise them. Period. At this juncture, I doubt we will have any conversations going forward other than information exchange like "the mail is on the desk". I'm not playing.

That's awful its probably been disconnected that long. I hope you get it fixed soon. Would be miserable anytime of year but during this heatwave has to be yuck. Well, the temporary fix was simply running an extension cord to the pump and plugging it in in the house. In about 20 minutes it had the tank pumped down. It will have to run off the extension cord until the outside outlets are installed or there are at least wire nuts put on the wires so the circuit is working.
What I need to get the plumber out for is to fix that alarm. Once it gets to within a couple feet of backflowing into the house the buzzer in the basement is supposed to go off. The alarm still has power and if you push the test button on it, it goes off, but obviously something is broken/stuck in the mechanism in the tank. I really need a new septic, but I'm putting that off as long as possible because I will need to get a mound system which is probably 20-30K.

I got my old mower picked up today. Maybe someday it will stop raining long enough for the yard to dry out enough so I can actually mow. We are way too damn wet at this point and there are towns in southern MN completely under water. Ironically, Waterville is one of them.

I wish I knew your DS so I could try to talk some sense into him, but I know there's just no talking to some men, until they reach the point that even good medical care can't help them. If even warning him that dying is a poor option, you just can't reach them, and they have to own their own life choices. Just a quick thought, but does he like drinking water, just plain water? That can make a difference when it comes to constipation. Beats the heck out of surgery if he gets "stopped up".

Hubs and I are beat, but we made a lot of progress. First all the boxes I put out yesterday are gone!!!! I have a few more tonight but maybe I have overloaded whomever, LOL!
I got all the cabinets cleaned out in the garage and wiped out. They are rolling cabinets, I put a lot of items I'm selling in them to make more room. Put a rack outside and have cookware on it to go, won't hurt if it rains. I have went over the cookware in the kitchen, but need to in the laundry room. I was savage in pruning items, we have more up there. Hubs and I put out all kinds of gardening items, rakes, hoes, clippers, you name it. We are just keeping one of some. I put out landscaping fabric, empty plant starters, a bike, a brand new push mower is going, we have never used it. Going to use our electric mower. I have all the clothes from the basement we are going to keep. My clothes are decluttered, hubs are too, DD's is not. That is a big milestone. I have gone through several blankets and only kept 1 so far. Found some brand new towels, I forgot I bought. Going to get rid of some that are not worn, just faded. also working on sheets, little progress on those yet. I want to finish my little garden shed, then the basement. Then come back up to the living area.
I told hubs even if we didn't move this is something we should have done years ago. Sadly, we stocked up big time before covid. Now some of it is going. We will get there, just a lot of work. I have some boxes filled they can have for $1. Stuff has to go. I keep picturing putting all this in the house and its not going to fit. Some is also so old it needs to go anyway. Hubs is having one sale of just garage stuff. I am going to try and get mine all done on the 2 sales.
The worst part is it is hot out there. Just awful, we need rain desperately.
Hubs is heading out with the tractor, next load I think is the boat and some items. The next will be overflow or items that might break easily, and then the box truck for furniture, we are planning on hiring. We decided to keep my car and sell the other one as mine has less miles even though the Buick is 2 years newer.
If things fall through on this sale, that is ok, we will be purged and ready, and won't have to go through all this again. But I don't expect it to.
Ready to bathe and crash for the evening. Dear hubs rested and went back to put a lot more shovels and stuff out, some came from his folks, so we have a lot. Just need a few items up there.
