I am so tired of coughing. At least it wasn't as severe last night.
I'm going to achieve a six pack just through hacking my brains out multiple times a day.
So freaking sore.
My voice is back at least. I'm still gravely but people can hear and understand me.

Some folks need "you do you" tattooed on their forehead. Given the approaching storm system, I let a friend know that we would probably skip her Sunday afternoon event. This was a big decision for us as we love her spring and fall parties BUT she lives many, many miles away and the weather is expected to be very violent this afternoon. So she pushed back, saying she had arranged for us to ride with someone else from the area which was a little offensive. Then she said she never watches TV or looks at the web because "it's all hype". Well, you do you, but it's not hype that hundreds of people have been evacuated from flooded homes, many area creeks, rivers and lakes are way out of bank, and lots of roads are closed. She said she doesn't even have tornado alerts on her phone because "they never really happen". That's true, until they do happen-ask the family of the man killed when a twister hit his home last week. Sorry you listened to all that. Stay safe.

Been up and getting ready to make tea.
I have vacuumed pretty much everything except the living room.
The 2 chairs I built will be going onto my front porch for now.
Putting away the mess on the kitchen table and the last load of laundry.
I have company coming next week so the guest room needs to be aired out and the bedding fluffed.

Cleaned the greasy spatter off the oven door and went to Aldi. The shelves were full and the aisles were empty of people - yay!

I'm trying to crack the whip with Carrot to get some of his homework done, but I just don't have the brain energy to deal with that. I'll probably go out and mow for awhile instead.

It was a delightful 45 minute drive to the grocery store this morning.
It rained during the night. The sun was just coming up over the ridge with a golden quality through the remnants of low hanging clouds concealing some of the mountains. Everything was all misty, moisty, and spring greeny. Spring flowers are everywhere. The dominant blooms right now are buttercup, daisies, and wild iris. There is a low growing pale purplish blue flower that I am not familiar with that looks amazing when they are clustered in large swathes of the fields.
Field grass is getting tall enough, that I think in the next week or so the farmers will be cutting for their first hay/grass harvest of the season. When they do, the area smells like heaven!

I baked an overnight French toast casserole this morning. It used up some leftover hot dog buns. I'm going to make notes on how I did it as I mixed a few recipes. We did the Sam's Club run yesterday. It's been raining all weekend. Laundry today and making a roast for dinner. I have a tried and true recipe from a college friend, if you find you can't recreate your notes just right. let me know

I don't set an alarm either, and I work FT. I mean, I work like 20 feet from my bed so there is no need. Definitely not setting one on the weekend. We set it for 6 except for New Year's Day and then we wake up anyway. Our bodies have spent too many decades with a 6 am alarm to change. Most days we are actually awake at 5 and often get up then. If I followed my body's natural rhythm without meds, I would go to sleep around 8 or 9, get up at midnight, go back to sleep around 4 and get up at 6 or 7. But the modern world doesn't accommodate our personal body cycles too well. I read a very interesting article several months ago that there was a time that it was normal to sleep about 4 hours, get up for a few hours, and then have a second sleep for about 4 hours. If I remember correctly, it was determined that the shift to more like what we know today occurred with the advent of electricity and/or the industrial age. I am going to hunt around and see if I can find that article. At the time I shared that article with my brother and we both agreed that the concept made perfect sense. This isn’t the same article that I read, but the topic definitely is. www.sciencealert.com/humans-used-to-sleep-in-two-shifts-maybe-we-should-again

I've been to Walmart and back, and there's some boneless chicken thighs currently marinating in a cilantro/tequila lime bath for grilling later today. I may have mixed myself a tequila sunrise while I prepped. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/tongue2.png) next up is cooking for the pups, I'm gonna try my hand at cooking London Broil that was on a ridiculous sale a couple weeks back, that's a treat for their dinner tonight. then there's two big family packs of ground beef and kale. any tips on the LB? I thought I could cook it in the hard anodized deep fry pan I'm going to use for the beef/kale, just to not be dirtying another pan. is that a good idea?

Cold meds are weird. DH swears by Nyquil. Cold meds of any kind pretty much do diddly squat for me. I take tylenol to help alleviate my symptoms and even that is done sparingly.

Poor DD1. She is studying for an AP history exam.
Our discussions have veered off from the Golden hoard to enunciating the "d" to blanche being the golden whore.
She brought up Galileo and I started singing Bohemian Rhapsody.

She brought up Galileo and I started singing Bohemian Rhapsody. I have to share something I found fascinating. My hearing loss is from birth, and I wore hearing aids from age 4. I have never listened to music on purpose. Everything I know about music is due to someone peripheral to me listening to it. After I got my cochlear implants, I decided to listen to music from time to time for audio therapy. Bohemian Rhapsody is one song that I was stunned by how it sounds. It sounded to me that the instrumentals were moving around me, starting in my left ear and moving across in front of me to my right ear. I was so astonished that I went to ask a coworker if that was how it was supposed to sound. I couldn’t fathom how it was done.

I just went outside to pluck off spent flowers from my porch garden. I just decided that I am not going to do a damn thing for the rest of the day except finishing washing bedding. I am going to make some mint water and some tea, and just chill on the porch. There is a delightful breeze, it is 81 with low humidity, and the porch is fully shaded now.

Did a Costco run this morning (wanted to avoid next weekend) -- also did my first jog since I started rehab for my knee eight weeks ago, and while it was slow, it did get done.
Doing laundry now, and will be fixing tacos tonight in honor of Cinco de Mayo.

I thought about tacos. However, I hit up the farmers market yesterday so I will put together a salad instead. Precooked chicken was on sale so that will be my protein. I have lemon and oranges to concoct a light citrus dressing with whatever else I have on hand that sounds good together.

I've used London broil as a flank steak replacement in beef and broccoli. I slice thin and throw in the pan for a few minutes. Safeway has regular sales on it so I used to buy it frequently. I haven't since we started buying a half/whole beef though and I can get flank steak cut from that.

Two hours of yard work yesterday and today. My body will hurt tomorrow but landscape is starting to look great.
I want to be done before stupid cicadas unearth themselves.
Cooked two home chefs with dh. He likes to pretend it's chopped and make the girls vote rofl. I won today with fajitas vs orange beef bc it had cabbage in it.

Thinking of baking something in my new kitchen.
I have a multitude of possibilities. Maybe I'll bake more than one thing.

Hey, I live in one of about 4 counties that is scheduled to be hit with two types/waves of cicadas. I am hoping they'll be wrong.
I hate those things.

I guess all the damage the rhinovirus does to the lungs makes it such that it needs to get expelled some way.

I sliced it because I wanted it to cook quickly and not be as tough. My roast is in the oven and smelling good. The rest of the bottle of red wine will find a good home with MIL.

London broil is best if you do a quick sear and don’t overcook it or it gets too tough. I have used it for stir fry in the past, but prefer it done on the grill. It doesn’t have a lot of fat in it, so turns to leather fast. How do the pups feel about a kale/beef stir fry?

to clarify, it's for the pups. there was a crazy sale and I got this piece for like $4 a couple weeks ago. I just don't want to totally kill it and choke one of them, is really what it is. or, leave it half raw....which I know their systems can handle some stuff raw, but par-cooking allows for bacterial growth and they aren't eating the whole thing in one shot.
I think I'm gonna just slice it and throw it in the big pan, like wvu said. I'm already filling the dishwasher tonight with my tacos and black beans 'n rice, so if I can do two things in one pan, that's a win.

Back from Kodiak. Sunday morning early, there wasn’t much open. We went to a local coffee shop, which was a lot like walking into Cheers with the locals. You guys off the cruise ship? Yep. Bears are starting to rouse, be careful they’re hangry. Yeah, if I got woken from a 5 month nap, I’d probably pretty hangry too!
TD went out to take some pics, but it was starting to sprinkle (I had such hopes for no rain). I came back to the ship. At this point, I’m about to go find some lunch. He zonked at 9:15 last night, was up at 5 so he got breakfast. Unfortunately, for the third night in a row I saw 2 am, so woke up right before we needed to go through immigration.
I grabbed a coffee to go on the way out. They wouldn’t allow anything but water be taken off the ship. Coffee is mostly water…..right?
