I’m not exactly excited about my upcoming trip, but I am definitely looking forward to it for personal reasons. When I went to New Orleans by myself, outside of the times they had things scheduled for us, it was nice to be able to do whatever I wanted to do without having to consider the person or people that had traveled with me. It was a great middle ground to dip my toes into traveling alone, because I wasn’t brave enough to explore on my own, and there were people that I knew that I could hang out with if I wanted to. Or if a group of people that I didn’t even really know were going somewhere interesting, I could tag along and still feel comfortable that if something happened I wouldn’t be alone and nobody have any idea what happened to me.
It will be the same on this trip. My boss and our local treasurer are going, and a lady from Nashville are going. Idk the lady from Nashville, but we already have something in common because we belong to the same local union. People that are active in our union, feel a kind of kinship toward each other, which is why I would’ve been comfortable going out with a group of them in New Orleans, even if I didn’t really know them.
Anyway, I asked our local treasurer to give me an idea of what to expect, since he’s been to these meetings before. He said that sometimes they get done handling all of the official business the first couple of days, and when that happens, they tell everybody to just enjoy the rest of their stay in the city. That would be awesome, if it happens this trip lol.
Regardless, my late afternoons and evenings will be free, and while I don’t plan to stay holed up in my hotel room all the time, I do plan to use some of my free time sorting out some of my personal stuff. I will hang out if there’s something I’m interested in doing, but it will be nice not feel obligated and be able to politely decline with no hard feelings if I prefer not to.
I went to the hotel’s website to try to see what’s nearby that I might want to check out while I’m there. I prefer things within walking distance if I am going by myself, because I’ve never arranged for a taxi or even an Uber, but if there is somewhere I really want to go, I’ll just have to figure it out.
If anybody has recommendations on something I really should try to visit while I’m in Pittsburgh, please share. I went there for a seminar, I think in 2016, but I didn’t have the kind of free time that I will have on this trip.

So remember that I was thinking about a modular home? I decided to look into it and I got rough numbers from a builder. The floorplan I wanted was $300K not including the land, so probably in the $400K neighborhood out the door. This would be a 4 BR 2 Bath house. Um, no. Plus interest rates are around 7%. I'm going to wait the market out. I think it's going to swing back around soon. I'm going to renew my lease in October and see what happens this time next year.
I wonder if I could call the bank and get a rough estimate of what I would be pre-approved for without hitting my credit. That way I know what to look at.

There's a job i should apply for that is due tonight. I am tired and i need a break. Someone crack the whip Apply right now, young lady! How's that? Nicely done. I just need to do one more read through and then send it off. I will have some time to spare. And I think I did a particularly good job about talking about transferrable skills and minimizing the focus that the job I'm applying for is not in my current discipline.

There is an interesting situation at my job that I’ve been meaning to ask you all what you think about it.
There is a new hire at my job on the evening shift that has Tourette’s. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that people that have Tourette’s sometimes randomly blurt out profane words. My disclaimer is that I have not done any research since this young lady started working there, to try to get more clarity.
The new hire doesn’t just blurt out random profane words, she yells stuff like “Fuck these ho’s” “Fuck this shit”, and other similar things. People that work with her don’t know how to take stuff like “Fuck these ho’s” because they feel like she might be referring to them. They feel like sometimes she is saying those things on purpose and that everything she says and does is not because of her medical condition.
They also dont like working with her, because she is very loud. There are 2 very large machines in that work area, and it is loud when both machines are running. When she is saying these things, she is loud enough that even the employees working on the other machine can hear her. Which is not an easy feat, but they all swear it’s true.
She also can’t be still. Not just the jerking and random body movements she makes when she is working but she also often walks away from where she is supposed to be working, and walks around with the jerking and random body movements, until whenever she comes back to work some more.
My employer has a zero tolerance policy for profanity on the workroom floor. It’s rarely enforced, and even managers use profanity. But there are some people that object to hearing profane language used, and that is their right in the workplace, especially since there is an official zero tolerance policy against it.
So how does that work, when she has a medical condition that is known for people who have it to blurt out profanities?
I have had a few conversations with Mister about it, because I was curious about his perspective as a manager himself. He says it is a nightmare and a very bad situation waiting to happen, and seems to get stressed just at the idea of of having to deal with that kind of situation. A manager at my job recently mentioned it to me, and he seemed to feel similar to Mister, that it has the potential for a lot of problems. This manager said he understands that it is a “disability”, but the problem is that other employees also have rights, and one of them is not being subjected to profanity at work, which is the official policy for our employer. And then there is the issue with her randomly walking around when she is supposed to be working, when employees are required to be gainfully employed outside of breaks and lunch. Of course her coworkers notice, and feel some type of way that she is wandering around while they are working.
So I have questions. The profanity, if someone complains about it, whose rights trumps whose? If both employees have bid jobs, you can’t make either of them just go work somewhere else to resolve the issue. Also, what if her coworkers complain that she randomly stops working and walks around, while they are working? Is it okay for them to be held to a higher standard for being gainfully employed except for breaks and lunch, than she is, since she just wanders off several times during the workday?
I don’t have a dog in the fight, I just think it’s interesting. My work hours do overlap with the evening shift, and she works in an area next to mine, that I have to work in sometimes for one reason or another. But I’ve still not seen (or heard) her yet.

People with Tourette’s can't help it. They say some pretty vile things very loudly. She's likely pretty embarrassed about it. She can't stand still because of the ticks. This girl is pretty well known for her Tourette’s. Maybe your coworkers "fuck these hoes" is this girl's "wind it up". She truly has a disability and can't control it. www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRwS8hdJ/ETA because the board was being weird last night. Legally her right to not be discriminated against because of her disability trumps your "right" to not hear profanity which is not a legal right. You don't get to discriminate because she's different than you (the general you) are. She has all the same rights as you do. The job can't not hire her because of the disability. They could have made up another bogus reason, but they're past that opportunity now.

Good morning, you beautiful invisipeeps of Y Ma'am. We're off to a sheepshearing festival north of Boston to peddle our wares in about 2 hours, as soon as I finish packing up the car. Wish us luck! Yesterday's morning as it breaks:

Listening to a drum serenade as we are getting ready to leave Sapporo and drinking some bubbly. Damn, these kids are freaking good!
Today was a good day, went to a historical outside museum, then another shrine. Yeah…..shrine. TD and I bailed when we saw the long line of food booths at a local fair and went to try some local food. He had a huge sausage on a stick with hot mustard, I had what was the equivalent of a hand sized potsticker. So much good smelling food, but we had to motor back to catch the bus. Pity. I told the guide that today’s shrine is probably the 30th we have seen on this trip. I think she understood!
We had to do another face to face with immigration, and one idiot was called up as he hadn’t gone by the time he was to have gone.
I sent TD out with the last of our yen to unload it. We are coming home with yen.

I turned in the app last night with time to spare.
There's another job I need to apply for. I can use the cover letter I wrote as a starting point. The pay is not very good. And we have a lot of different levers to pull in the near short term.

well, nobody woke me up for food last night, so I slept again til almost 2. farted around on my phone for a couple hours and dozed off again for another couple more. I'm currently enjoying a cup of coffee while I listen to the news about an encampment of Israel/Gaza protestors on my college's campus is being broken up this morning.
on tap for today are a Home Depot/McDonald's drive-thru run (with an extra hash brown for the pups!) and then some major cleaning. today I will either fix the damn vacuum cleaner and use it, or finally decide I need a new one.

andi, our DD built a modular home. Costs were a lot more than they expected. Electrical and water hookups weren’t included. They also made some changes. Added a huge deck and eliminated a loft. Also the prices quoted are for basics only, no nice tiled bathrooms, vinyl not wood floors etc They live in the country and needed a well and septic also. House is really pretty and well built. but be careful about costs that are needed but not included

There are 2 subdivisions being built just across the street from me and tons of apartment buildings all over the city. Some of the houses I've seen on zillow have had price cuts and been on the market 30+ days. I'm debating waiting out the interest rates and getting the house now and refinancing later.

I think I'll just give a realtor I know a heads up what I'm looking for and ask her to let me know when she finds it. I have time and it's only a couple thousand to break my lease if I find the perfect house.

The area around 35th got decent damage but no where near what happened elsewhere. We avoided the apple size hail too. APPLE size people. Bill Ranby said he hadn't seen a storm like this in the entire 32 years he's been on KETV. Oh but climate change isn't real.

Went to the Journey concert last night and both Journey and Toto were fantastic! DH was so sweet, he bought me a shirt and right after that I caught a shirt when they were throwing them to the crowd! It’s way too big for me so I may give it away but I’m going to see if I can shrink it first. We got a pepperoni calzone at the venue, $14! It was good though and we were both hungry as we didn’t have time to eat dinner before the concert.

Sometimes DH is thoughtful & smart, and other times I swear there is a shutoff switch on his brain. This morning I FINALLY got a day that I should've been able to sleep in until 9 am, but dumbass set the alarm for 6 am, and had the volume so freakin' loud that it literally jolted me awake. Like stereo speaker loud. Now I've got a nasty headache, a busy day ahead of me, and he wonders why I'm royally pissed off. Men!

Someone decided to rearrange underneath the sink in the bathroom cabinets and it was not me. I don't know what gets in to these cats at times.

After all the work and home repair chaos of the week, I was really looking forward to a quiet weekend at home. Apparently, the construction guys across the street did not take the weekend off.

I know that people with Tourette’s can’t help it. I want to be clear that it’s not me complaining about it, it is the people that work with her complaining. I’ve never even seen her. I’ve shared some examples of the craziness at my job, I have no doubt that eventually somebody is going to make a big deal and there is going to be a problem. I’m not sure what your “wind it up” sentence means, she is the one yelling “fuck these ho’s”. I also understand that there is a difference between laws and company policies. Profanity is not illegal, but it is against company policy. That is what I was referring to with “rights” of the coworkers. We have a million rules, and some of the ones about behavior in the workplace and ensuring a certain kind of work environment are what creates the sticky situation for my employer, because they also have to adhere to their own rules and the contracts with their other employees about their work environment. It seems to me to be impossible to do both. Anyway, like I said, I just think it’s an interesting situation, and I am sure that it will eventually become a big problem for my employer.

Good news, my lease situation is fixed. Bad news I have to remember to pay rent next week while I’m traveling, since it’s going to take a few days to fix this all in the online portal. But if that’s the only “bad news” for me in this situation, I’ll take it.
I feel so bad for the lady I spoke with today. She was thanking ME bc I was so calm and nice, she said most folks yell at her for this type of thing. I get that it’s stressful, but it was MY mistake that I didn’t re-sign in time. I figure yelling at her was definitely not the way to get what I wanted!

I didn't take it as ypu complaining, just asking a question. As far as the others, they're OK with people getting beat up there, but heaven forbid a disabled person drop an F bomb? The girl in the link randomly says "wind it up". I was suggesting that your coworker's equivalent tick may be "fuck these hoes". A little more vulgar, but at the end of the day, she can't help it. Nobody is ever going to make everyone happy or follow all the million rules to a t. Whether they like it or not, she's protected by federal law and and your employer is married to her now. Is she untouchable? No, but she is going to be given a lot of leeway because she is disabled. Other coworkers can deal or they can go elsewhere to work. It's the same as if they didn't want to work with her because of her race or religion or sex. It's a protected class, either deal or leave.
