I used to love that show. It is one show that actually aged well. I've never even heard of it.

Good morning, observant invisipeeps with problematic or unusual family and coworkers ruffling the peace of your days. Welcome to Thursday. I hope you find a burst of energy today to pursue something that you love to do and end with a truly awesome dessert or beverage. And that nothing spots your lawn with yellow. Today I'm going to pack up the pictures DD wired for display and try again to remove the screws holding in the last drawer pull in the kitchen. If I could figure out how, I'd cut it out. It's very frustrating. Yesterday I brought DH to urgent care for his shoulder/back, but the wait to see someone was 2+ hours so we left. Going to try early this morning again, then bring Franklin the Dog to get groomed. He insists that he can help set up the show on Saturday but I don't see how unless he is on groovy meds. The sun shone yesterday. It's colder today, but I think the sunrise will be similar. Here is yesterday's sun rising, lighting a path in the water: not sure where you went yesterday, but there's rarely a wait at the Southcoast UC in the big shopping plaza where the highways meet near me. hopefully you have better luck today.

Well, now that I got the right day, I'm waiting for the basement guys again. The guy marking the lines was here at 6:30am. I'm kind of bummed that it wasn't scheduled for yesterday and today. Friday weather looks like rain and high winds all day and there is a fair amount of outside work to be done after they tear up the basement today. I found the plastic sticky stuff for the carpeted stairs and put that on so at least they won't be tracking mud going up and down all day.

It is one show that actually aged well. I've never even heard of it. It was on NBC from 85-90. It originated from a play. Starred Marla Gibbs (Florence from the Jeffersons - show was actually created for her), a young Regina King, and Jackee Harry's most famous role. Jackee is now on Days of Our Lives, where her apartment is #227.

And speaking of adventures in home improvement, "someone" scraped their initials onto the side of our big tree in the front yard. Like a foot high. DH will be speaking with the contractor this morning.

today's shaping up to be a productive one. my head is screwed on straight, and I'm ready to go. pups are at daycare, and the laundry is already cranking. 2nd load is in the washer, both sets of guest sheets so far. next in line are all the towels and cruise laundry. sheets and towels are easy enough to just throw in a pile and fold/roll later. I'd like to be fully unpacked before going to pick the pups up this afternoon.
there's not too many calls in my calendar for today, so I'm hoping to get through last week's stuff in my inbox. in theory, anything super urgent got forwarded to my boss, and he'd have included me in his response.

does anyone have recommendations for a good product to fix yellow spots in the lawn? Punk has already marked her spot, in less than 3 weeks. I'm not okay with that, for what it cost me. if there's something that you like that prevents the urine from killing the lawn (I've seen a few products in my very quick search), I'll take that recommendation as well. for what it cost me to put in, I'm not okay with that at all. the yellow spots are limited to about one sod roll, maybe two. I can probably ask the landscapers if they have another job that has rolls leftover, if they can swing by and re-lay those two pieces and I can spray the preventative in that whole corner. oy. Clover is pretty damn urine resistant.

Day four of life without hot water. The flooring contractor is down stairs applying the floor leveling compound. New sheet vinyl gets installed today in the laundry room and basement bathroom. Hopefully the plumber can come back tomorrow to replace the water heater and softener.
I am wiped out. I have been doing demo, patching drywall and painting for three days straight. I am parked on top of a heating pad today while the flooring guy works his magic!
I was a little annoyed with the hardware store. I got a gallon of paint that was supposed to be semi gloss. I figured the drywall was just sucking the paint up. When I went back for a second gallon, we found out the first gallon was eggshell. At least the bathroom will get semi gloss. The bathroom will need one more coat of paint, but I ran out of time. My drywall skills have not faded, my repairs look pretty good.
I am going to the state park later today for a very, very long hot shower.

I am bugging the contractor to get out here and put down grass seed.
His transmission in his truck died and it's in the shop. Then rent a truck or something. It's supposed to rain for 3 days. Would be a great start for grass seed.

You know, having a remote job, I still do a lot of in person things. I'm going to Knoxville in August now. It's going to be so hot! I don't wanna. I have to get to TX again before it gets really hot too. I'm over it.

And it's hurricane season too! If you get stuck in Texas you can hunker down with us - we have a generator and alcohol, plus crazy neighbors with boats Boats in hurricanes? 😳 For many residents here, the greatest danger is massive and prolonged street flooding rather than the winds. Our local fire department keeps a high water rescue boat at all times; our county precinct has a giant vehicle labeled for high water rescues too. Houston is traversed by bayous that our streets drain into, when they can. Routine rains can bring thigh-high water on my street. It usually goes down in a few hours, but if a hurricane floods a wider area there's no place for the water to go and it may take days for the streets to drain.

I just wrestled with a rosemary bush for an hour. I worked on it for about 30 minutes last night. There's still at least 30 minutes to go. It's been kept within slightly expanding boundaries, but it doesn't look like the deadwood has been removed in several years. The bottom 25% of it is all dead; it's just that the landscapers have kept it pruned in a way that I didn't realize that. Too bad rosemary isn't worth more; I could make a fortune selling this stuff off in little herb bags
Does your state or county have Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers? It's a program for a mostly-functional adult to be an advocate for a minor in the foster system. I'm going to look into this because my area is doing a training these next few weeks. I have an appointment at their office later today.

IEP meeting done, again Funding request getting pushback, so still in limbo. The good news is the notoriously prickly contact seems to actually be cooperating. I feel like I’ve spent the entire week in hypervigilant mode between kid needs and job and would like to stop now please.

I am not enjoying watching my finished basement pile up on a tarp in the backyard. Studs, drywall, insulation, cement... I'm thinking I might go grab some of that insulation before they haul it off. It's the hard foam stuff and would work well if I wanted to insulate some water buckets/tanks for the winter.

When I think of boats, I think of recreational boating. Thigh high water sounds outrageous! I can't even imagine. Hurricane Harvey hit the area in 2017. Here's an excerpt from one university report on its impact "Federal forces rescued 10,000 people who were trapped in their homes or on flooded highways. A flotilla of private boats rescued an unknown number of additional victims. The Houston Police Department's Dive Team rescued 3,000 people in four days. Houston police officer Austin Huckabee said he and four other officers saved 40 people in the first 24 hours." Conventional hurricane wisdom is "run from the water, hide from the wind" and it's very true. Homes in our neighborhood are advertised as "did not flood"

Whelp everything with GUs house is done.
We get nothing. Even though the lawyer said GU only had about $5k in Medicaid expenses the state of Nebraska has put a $100k lien on the house. Which the judge agreed to.
An additional $30k goes to the home nursing care. I personally feel like their employees robbed GU blind AND stole his truck so they don't deserve a damn dime but the court doesn't view it that way.
Then there were more city liens than we knew about.
So yeah. My dad did all that work and gets nothing. Absolutely nothing. Pretty much a final fuck you from my great uncle.
Before anyone flames me I am not saying that the state shouldn't be compensated. I am saying it's freaking nuts that he died 2 weeks after being approved and they get $100k. That's an entire YEAR at full OOP price for my grandmother's nursing home. But the state is claiming it cost them $100k for TWO WEEKS?!
It is what it is. And they wonder why people don't want to take care of/deal with elderly relatives. Yet again boys and girls let this be a lesson to get all your affairs in order and not be a stubborn old bat about aging. We can't predict everything or cover every scenario but I sure as hell don't have to be my grandmother (either grandma really if being honest) or great uncle.

So it's not the nursing home taking the $100K? It's the state? For what? Was he a ward of the state? I didn't think he was. I need to talk to my parents about this stuff again.

As annoying as it is, what's going on with NomoreDramaQ1015's family, it sadly doesn't surprise me. Was GU on SSI? The gov't does a long look back, and takes money for everything they've ever provided for a senior or disabled person. I did all of the paperwork, and supervised the legal work for my deceased relative, and the state got it all. I wasn't surprised in the least, as I was warned that was probably how things would go. I even had to pay for some of the graveside funeral service, because the gov't is very selective on what they will and won't pay for. Thankfully it was less than $1,000 out of my pocket, but still...
