Oh dear. Someone just posted a picture with Reed Timmer AND Jim Cantore in Florida TOGETHER. The last time I saw a post from Reed, he was hanging out around Cedar Key, FL. Best wishes to our posters who live near any area that could be affected by the incoming hurricane.

idk the name Reed Timmer, but Ken Block (lead singer of Sister Hazel) posted a bro pic with himself and Cantore when they were on the same flight to FL. KB mentioned Cedar Key, here's hoping they will be okay.
I saw a meme last night, that make me snort laugh at top volume - it was the Waffle House indicator. basically, if WH closes, you're effed.

In the chronicles of "Nobody wants to work anymore" DH's company had the bright idea that in order to reduce production overhead costs they would require that all workers are only allowed to work 32 hours a week hard stop.
Everyone signed off on this thinking it was so smart and everyone in production would love it.
They had a mass walk out instead.
Instead of saving themselves money now they are even further behind than they were previously on orders and have to replace a bunch of staff.
I said some bean counter who has never left their office a day in their lives got a hard on thinking they would impress the uppity ups by increasing their bonuses didn't they?
There have also been a mass number of resignations because it is so hot in the plants. There is no AC and they run equipment that also produces heat. The company has oh so generously allowed for one extra break a day due to the heat.
They can't figure out why people are still quitting.

Things are going pretty well. I'm packed, have one large suitcase and a small one. The big one is half full of DD and my winter coats, just 2 of them. But they sure feel good when its winter in Indiana. We brought them up when we drove up as it was cold and forgot to have hubs take them back home with him. If not for those one suitcase would do it. Most of the clothes, coats, and shoes we are leaving. Hubs said leave them all, but I like the jeans I have, next trip may just do that. I trimmed DD and my nails, they needed it, washed and set my hair. I will help DD clean up and smell like a rose before we leave. DIL is taking my bedspread and blanket to wash, she has the big front loaders so can do my king size spread. I was going to mow yesterday, she said no, she wanted to mow it and take the grass so ok with me. Mostly brown still but we did get some rain yesterday. I cleaned the bathtub where I fixed the shower and the sink, so its good. Last night scrubbed the shower in my bathroom, just have the sink top to clean. We have a few dishes from breakfast, I made us grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, they will hold us for quite some time. Have the trash can sitting out DIL will take the sack home with her. And the few things in the fridge will go in the freezer or be thrown away. She took all my extra veggies home last night. I am washing another load of clothes at least, want to leave everything fresh and clean. I have bought 2 bars of soap at TJ Maxx, one goat soap and another from Italy. I put them in closets opened and these smell better than all the fragrances I can buy. They have gotten rid of the MUSTY odors in them. Need to call hubs, as we are pretty much ready. It will be nice to get home for awhile, though I dread all the work in the landscaping. I've been watching the series called Bosch, pretty good. Are you leaving on Thursday? I'm glad you got to spend some time there with your family. But it will be nice to get home to your hubs and kitties again. Safe travels when you go.

I just called the police on some random man. He was yelling and smacking this lady in the middle of the street. People were driving by and trying to stop and help her, but he was charging at them too. I called 911 and they said 2 other people already called it in and officers were already on the way. It's just not safe here. If I had a firearm I would have stopped and helped, but I don’t. Luckily someone who does is on the way to help her. yikes. have the officers gotten there? that's nutty. glad you're getting out, hopefully you can convince your grandma to do the same. I don't know. It wasn't on my street. I stopped on the way home to get food and saw this from the drive through.

Right now demand is so high for production workers they can quit, get a hiring bonus AND a higher base pay on top of overtime somewhere else.

Here you get full benefits, but vacation accrual is pro-rated, so if you were getting 4 weeks a year and go from 40 to 30 hours then you only get 3 weeks. I can't remember what they do with holidays.

Also, I really don't consider it an imposition asking a family member to drop by twice to take care of the cats. Unless they would have to drive hours to do so of course but that is not the case either. Sounds more like your sister does not want you to ask "" HER" kids for help whatever... She needs to get over herself. That sister is nuts. Asking family (or friends) for help is not in and of itself taking advantage of them. That's what family does. You help each other out. And it's checking on a couple cats. It's not like you were expecting him to milk your 100 dairy cows twice a day while you were out.
Way back when my maternal grandfather did things like help a neighbor milk cows or harvest if they had problems. Over the years, we watched our parents take in various family members when they were down on their luck. Most were mom's family but dad's brother stayed with them during the week until he could retire when his job at home was lost. Newly divorced cousins stayed with children, mom's sister after a divorce. Even had an uncle call dad to go get his son out of jail who had gotten picked up for drunk driving. Cousin's first word to dad were "what took you so long". Dad was not happy and told uncle he would never bail him out again. The parents appreciated it but the cousin who was in jail didn't. Yes, it is what family does. When I lived in Boulder, it was what my chosen family did. I appreciate you all My sister has mentioned going to Toronto the next time I go. That is not even being considered because she didn't contribute financially last time.

DH just found a coin in his pocket that looked somewhat like a penny but wasn't. Thanks to the magnifying feature on my phone, we determined it was a 1987 Bahamian 1 cent coin so it's joining all the other odd coins he's accumulated over the years. Many are from our trips abroad but many others he's received as change here in Houston.

I guess my time on the deck is over for this year. Yesterday a webworm fell on me out of the pecan tree. The tree now has branches up top that stretch over the deck. They aren’t touching the roof, they are way above the house.
Between the squirrels it attracts, the leaves and litter on the deck when the squirrels start eating the pecans (like now), I’m about ready to have it cut down. It’s too close to the house.

Well, the flipper was here. He offered me $30K more than I owe. That money would pay everything I owe off and still leave me with a nice down payment on a new car. I'm going to take it. You're getting lots of good suggestions here. I'll add my two cents... if you can get your grandma convinced she'll move too, you might mention it to the flipper. Sometimes they like to be working on two properties close to each other. It minimizes travel time and makes deliveries easier if they can find multiple places close together and the convenience factor could result in a slightly more generous deal for both you and grandma. YMMV.

But it doesn't seem to be what the younger generation does, very often. If asked, they just say, no. If not asked directly, they just don't say anything. Although DD2 has taken dinner to 2 different families this summer, after they had a death. That both surprised and pleased me.

Do the math to myself. I went shopping for bargains. 66 cent mac cheese and 4/$5 cream soup. The cream of chicken soup didn't show the sale price at the shelf. I went to the service desk. She brought one back and it rang up at $1.09. I said I'd take the one. I'm walking out to my car and did the math. Phooey. I went back in and bought 4 cans of cream of chicken soup.

soupandstew thank you for the information on United inflight food sold through app. Are there other airlines that do that?
I have no idea if others do it - it was a very unpleasant experience for us. Personally, I don't like to link my CC or my bank account to an app on my phone for security reasons, but I may have to do this going forward if we are going to travel. I know what you mean about cc and bank info on your phone. When I was out of my mind with covid meds in ICU, one of the CNAs got my phone saying she wanted to see pics of my grandkids. I don't think she ever got it unlocked. She was caught by the charge nurse.

I will burn my YM card tomorrow. We went to the wine dinner tonight (DH did not have the wine pairing, only the food) and somehow a bottle of wine jumped into a sack and came home with us. Damages were north of $500, but I did bring home a to-go box of roast suckling pig to go with eggs for breakfast tomorrow The cool story about the wine is that this Spanish winery found some wild vines on the verge of extinction and, after having them genetically identified at a university in Madrid, propagated them in sustainable quantities to create a truly incredible red. Their efforts are encouraging other wineries across Europe to save old, endangered, vines and use modern technology like stainless steel vats to make incredible wines with them. The winery was officially founded in 1870, although they were producing wines in the 1500's. DH asked the wine representative how they had survived all the political turmoil in Spain through the centuries. He smiled and said the Spanish government, the Roman Catholic Church, and even the Moors appreciated good wine, so the wineries were always protected through the wars.

And you are so right about using soap bars to fragrance closets and cabinets - I've used them in the linen closet for years. I just grab whatever bars are on the clearance aisle at Marshall's and tuck them among the sheets and towels on the shelves. About the weeds in your flower beds, have you tried a weed prevention product like Barricade? It stops seeds from sprouting so you can't plant flower seeds in those beds, but you can put in seedling plants and they do just fine. That's way less effort than hand weeding. Each application is good for 3 months or so.

I went to look at another rental today. It's a big hell no. My house is in way better shaped than this one is. The landlord has some serious balls trying to rent this house out. It is falling apart. There are also no appliances. I would literally have to supply my own fridge, stove, washer and dryer and maintain the yard. There is no place for a dishwasher. They had the gall to try and charge $1200/month. I noped right on out of there. I could get a 2 BR apartment with all the amenities for that or not much more.

He said some other things she asked him to get up there he made her pay for. I had some food delivered through Amazon for me. Otherwise they paid for what I asked for. On trips here, they buy a meal for HER entire family and all of the siblings and their kids are at the farm. I admit the Toronto couple are snobs when it comes to restaurants. They don't think there is a decent restaurant in this area. They are not wrong.

Mister’s Dad is back in the hospital. He’s in ICU, and received some blood transfusions. Idk why he needed blood, Mister doesn’t seem to know why either.
Mister said that if he loses his Dad too, he’s not going to have any mercy on his brother as far as his brother not having anywhere to live besides their parents’ house. He says he will NOT pay the mortgage and other bills for his brother to continue living there. I don’t think he should either, in fact, we’re gonna have some issues if he does do that.
His brother called him today, never mind the fact that their Dad is in ICU, and asked Mister about the money their Mom had said she wanted Brother and his daughter to have after she died. That pissed ME off. Because everything Mister has asked his Brother to do, he hasn’t done any of it, and his excuse is always that he just gets so upset about anything concerning their Mom, because she’s gone. As if that wasn’t MISTER’S MOM TOO, and Mister didn’t handle business regardless and try to hold things together for his family, despite losing his Momma, who was not only his Momma, but also his good friend that he had a close relationship with.
I don’t want to really get started on Mister’s family and how I feel about shit since his Mom got really sick this time last year.
So anyway, even though I feel some type of ways about Mister’s Dad, I still don’t want him to suffer, and I am actually worried about him. As much as he gets on my nerves, I’d rather he be his selfish, messy self, than for him to be truly sick. So I am praying for him, and if any of you are willing to do the same, or send good vibes or whatever is your way of sending positive energy, I would appreciate it.

YMMV. I talked to her again today and she wasn't having it. She is determined not to move. My mom and siblings say it's only a matter of time before she doesn't have a choice. Grandma's house is turnkey. Her children have been splitting the cost of maintenance in their adulthood. If there was 5 of me working, my house would be turnkey too. It makes a bit more sense to find an individual buyer or use a realtor for her house.

They're not even my family and brother pisses me off. If his dad dies Mister really does need to put him out and sell the house. Let me know if I need to tackle brother so we can tell everyone he got beat up by a girl.
