Well, our checking account was rather plump.
And then I realized I forgot about 1K of the money was spoken for. It's a good thing I realized this after I bought DH his father's day gift. We should be fine. I have to return a dress, which should cover my hair cut. Otherwise, we're just at food for the rest of the month.
DD1 needs a non jogging shorts/short short outfit.

Order it curbside. You can always take it back when you get home if you don't like it. That still would have required me to shop online. There was no way. I was running my ass off when I got home. We left at 6 and got to the hotel about 9. Have to get up at 4am to catch the shuttle. ☹ Bon voyage!

Good morning, diligent invisipeeps, keeping the wheels spinning in your universes. Welcome to Friday. I hope your day unfolds gently and elegantly, and ends with welcome sleep wherever you are. I did just a couple of small chores yesterday. I was tired and still feel that way. Covid will do that, I figure. So today may be a wash, too. If I end the day completely unapacked I'll be satisfied. Franklin the Dog and I did get to the beach yesterday at dawn. We saw a troop of tiny dinosaurs being mustered. They are Great Egrets, and I think they are most likely the half-grown nest still following mama around that I took pics of a few weeks ago.

They are quite tasty straight off the plant. Dd10 and her neighbor friends never let any make it inside. I wouldn't have it any other way. I took one of yesterday and convinced Mister to taste it. He said it was good, then went and spit it out in the garbage lol. He said he spit it out because while it wasn’t nasty, it was very different from what he’s use to. The ones I sautéed today tasted very “green” to me, which was different for me too. But I think I’ll like them if I sauté them properly. Sauté with garlic. Best ever.

Yeah, fresh green beans can be tricky around here. While I like them very close to green and super crunchy the other folks in my house don't. I usually start them sautéing in a little butter or olive oil. Once that's going I add some water. Once the water boils off I let them sauté in the oil or butter that remains behind for a couple more minutes. It makes them more done that just a quick sauté, but I can still avoid having boiled or steamed mush. The only other way I can mage to get DH and Kiddo to eat fresh green beans is by roasting them. And there are just some days where I'm just not in the mood to deal with the oven. Now, if I'm doing green beans with bacon and onions that is different. But, I'm way down south so smothering any vegetable in bacon and onions is fair game. I did exactly what you described. I will have to look into roasting them too, thanks for that. I’m from the south too, so I wholeheartedly agree with you about smothering vegetables in bacon and onion. We sauté green beans in olive oil with garlic, red pepper flakes (very small amount to give it a kick). Really tasty. I’m sure bacon is tasty too. I don’t care for overcooked southern style mushy green beans.

I need to get moving. I have to pack and clean up the kitchen. Then I can get on the road and get that 5 hour drive over.

I swear Thriftbooks and used book stores are going to be my downfall. I just ordered two books and a cookbook from Thriftbooks and I still have a pile of five books I bought from a local used bookstore. And I got over excited and put a bunch of books on reserve at the library. I told DH I may have finally achieved that level of readership where my to be read list has finally outpaced me! I will be fair and say that two of my books are ones I have already read years ago. I cannot find my original copies so I purchased new ones on the cheap. So I can make the semantic argument that those don't count as books I haven't got to reading yet. I haven't gotten to reading them AGAIN. Yeah .. that's how I'll spin it to DH.

Broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes - throw 'em in the oven! We have a double oven (normal gas and convection gas); the convection oven is my most favorite tool ever, especially for getting a nice, crispy char on my veggies. Toss with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and spices of your choice, spread out on a parchment papered baking sheet. Boom.

I'm moving the last of the stuff from my old office to my new office before it gets too hot. It was 104 yesterday. The AC in the new office works great, though.

I go through phases but if I don't have a book in my hand eventually I go crazy. Gwen is not a reader which makes me sad. Abby is. The last time we went to the library I came back to find her trying to drag a giant Alid bag across the room that she had filled to the brim with books. I asked her if she was sure she wanted all those and she looked at me and said "But mommy I thought you said there was no such thing as too many books?" God dammit. I think I gave myself a hernia lugging it to the car.

Both my sister and I hated the way driving vacations went with our parents. We had a very strict schedule for each day of where we had to end up for our Motel 6. They were brand new then. We also had a list of the places we could stop and see for many 30 minutes. So we didn't get to do anything spontaneous and often arrived too late to use the pool. We only stopped at gas stations when dad bought gas and we used the bathroom.
I have successfully moved away from that type of trip. I only drive all day if I have an end destination where I am going to spend time and don't care about the driving part. I do stop at a lot of rest stops to get out of the car, besides gas stations.
So she is on vacation this week to meet her goal of seeing all 48 of the continental United States. They drove straight through to North Carolina and also went to South Carolina. Saw nothing along the way and it doesn't sound much like they saw anything but the ocean, but not staying anywhere more than one night.
She texts me yesterday that they are on their way to the Biltmore in North Carolina and will spend a couple of hours there this morning before heading to something tomorrow where they will do the same thing at some place on their list and then drive home.
That is not my idea of a vacation but to each their own.
She always says they stay in a motel. They really do. When they were in Virginia Beach it was too awful for them so they moved to another one which had cockroaches everywhere. Spend a little money and stay some place decent.

I finally got my roomba set up again and am kicking myself for letting it sit and collect dust for a year. Truly fabulous.
This week has been a lot of scheduling jenga. And next week, and the next week, and all summer, more of the same. I really do like it, and choose this schedule but sometimes its a lot.

The missy is so funny. I had her try on the clown barf mitten to see how well it fit her. She was like "It's mine. Now add a thumb, otherwise mine is getting cold." I was like, girl, this isn't yours.
She picked out some other yarn when I was running errands and brought her to the yarn shop.

jerseygirl If the connector is flat vs round like iPhone plugs, lint builds up in it and you can get it out with a paper or small pin.

I didn't really like driving vacations with my parents either. My dad didn't believe in hotel reservations. Before I was born, my parents had to sleep in their car once, because a room was not to be had at their destination.
There was one vacation where it was very hard to come by a hotel room when i was a kid.
Then, by the time I was in HS, somehow, it was my responsibility to determine the sights we were going to see. Which was fun, because I couldn't read my mom's mind.
I miss being able to take driving vacations with the kids.

We had exactly one driving vacation when I was growing up. It was a 6-hour drive each way. We stayed at a motel there, and it was like we were at the Four Seasons. We didn't know any better. They had a color TV in the lobby. We had never seen a color TV!
Occasionally, a relative would rent a cottage at the shore (an hour away) and we would spend a few days with them. We also had occasional beach days.
Those were the only vacations we had. We just didn't have the money for more.
Nowadays when I'm driving over multiple days to get to my destination, I tend to stay at a Hampton Inn or similar. If I'm in a city, I tend to go for mid-range luxury. Hyatt Regency, JW Marriott, and similar.
I can remember two hotels I stayed at, both courtesy of the airlines, that were my worst hotels ever. One was in a sketchy part of Miami. The lobby was filled with loiterers who watched my every move. The ceiling tiles in the room were displaced, and bugs could have crawled in and out and cameras could have been put in there. I barely slept. The other one was in the last available room. I should have realized the room would not be great when the manager empathically pointed at a chart to indicate that the room was the last one available. There was no shower curtain or bathroom tissue. The room was at the end of a long hallway and there were people in a group along that hallway spilling out of the rooms, socializing. It looked like a family reunion or something. It was an intimidating enough group that made me not want to go back down the hallway for a soft drink or anything else. Again, little sleep.
Traveling is hard enough, right? 'Stay in the best place you can afford' is my motto.

Yes, even hubs who thinks everything doesn't need replaced said we will buy another stove. He keeps saying the place isn't bad, I said you are not cleaning where I'm cleaning because its nasty.
To be honest I don't know if the dishwasher works either, he has the water off in the kitchen because he needs to replace a seal in a faucet and can't find the set screw anywhere to do so. Oddly the 2 sinks weren't bad, no crap build up but a bit behind the faucets. I told him the frig is nasty too, I just looked in it. And he said how do you make a w/d that's only 2 or 3 years old get in that condition. There is rust on the washer at the bottom on the outside and its just dirty looking all over. Not saying anything about the rust. My washer that I clean and wipe off regularly is rusting badly where the hinges are for the top. Only thing I can figure is water splashing from inside on the lid? I need to see if the frame, the top is under warranty. It's a top brand?? But the rental one, I just don't know. Will make sure the set works, if so, clean good then use touch up paint on it.
Just hard to believe people live that way.

DD thinks she is getting a UTI, only had one ever. I called the doc to see if she could get in today, they are only there till noon. They said they would get back to me, and have not. I can't imagine them calling in a scrip and not seeing her. It's ok if they don't get bacck, we can go to the minor clinic in the city to see her. But I'm losing today. We are cleaned up and dressed so ready to go.

When we were kids we stayed at little roadside ‘cabins’ when traveling back to NJ from Chicago . Summer vacations stayed at little lake cottages. It was all an adventure
But we did have one fantastic hotel experience. Dad took a job in Chicago and the first night we were there we stayed at the Palmer house. I was 5 but still remember the staircase and sleeping on a beautiful chaise lounge. Still a beautiful hotel

AZO makes pee strips that are the exact same thing they use at the clinic. Have her pee on one of those. If it turns purple she's got an infection.
Several clinics here will just call in for you and not make you have an office visit anymore for a UTI. The last time I got asked if I used a strip and what color did it turn. I told them Grimace level purple. They called in the scrip. They said you're an adult we trust you to know your symptoms and anti-biotics are cheap. It saves everyone time to not have the clinic clogged up with minor issues.
If it didn't clear up THEN I'd need to come in so I could pee in the cup and they could do a culture.

I read way too much. I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription that I’m not renewing this month. There’s so much other things that I need to do! Some of it learning how to crochet and link granny squares together to finish a quilt that my MIL started for DD2. MIL’s fingers won’t let her do it anymore. 😔

I'm so pissed. I was driving home from the gym and saw a guy beating a dog in a yard down the street from my house. I stopped and called the police. I started screaming at the guy. Other people there were justifying it saying the dog is mean. I told them I'll take it then. I guess the guy hitting it and the people justifying it aren't the owner. I'm standing there having a screaming match and the police basically said if they have time later they'll think about responding. The owner came home as I'm yelling at people and asked what happened. I told him and he said he just got home and didn't know that was happening but he had planned on rehoming the dog anyway tomorrow until he could get a place to stay. He assured me that he was going to beat on the guy that was hitting the dog because he would never let that happen and that he's telling him to leave. They all went inside and since the police DGAF, I could either stand there all night by myself or leave. I can see the house from my front porch. His truck better be gone shortly or I'm going back there. I hate people so freaking much. The dog barks at him every time he comes over so it's justified. Then rehome the dog or tell him not to come over! Why is that so hard?! I hope the dog ends up being OK. People make dogs mean; I have never met one that started that way. I am glad you are looking out for these dogs, and I hope you start having better success. I would ask how hard is it to stay away from a dog you think is mean? (Generally not that hard at all. ) The owner said he did not know that was happening and was going to "bust his ass" for hitting the dog. He said the dog is his wife's baby and they'd had it since it was a puppy. That he was going to relocate the dog to his dad's house today to stay until they can get back on their feet and find a place to stay. I guess the wife is in the hospital right now and he's trying to juggle everything. I get it, but I'd be too busy kicking the crap out of that person if it was one of the twins being hit to talk to me. I hope it ends up OK. I never did see the police so I'm assuming they never came.

Thanks, I am going to try ordering one. I used to have one that just looked like a tank top, I really liked it. I am thicker, and have thunderthighs, but I still have curves. I prefer shorts and a swim top but not a bikini top. I need to do measurements. I would have just ordered a M, but when I order regular Womens tops I often order a size Small. I am usually a PM. I probably won't need a suit again until Winter, but as I live in WI, swimsuits are out of season then and get very expensive.

Last sea day and we are socked in with fog. No change in the GI illness on board, it’s remaining steady so things are continuing as they are. We have 4 bottles of wine left to drink, we have been taking a bottle with us to dinner each night. There is a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc in the fridge right now, then we move to the wines TD bought in Italy while I was in Covid arrest.
I don’t know if our stuff is going to fit in the bags. We sent them out not expanded, and while they were full they were not stuffed. But we have acquired a lot of stuff along the way, I have a small bag of just spices. We have 3 pieces of art (one framed), TD has at least 20 new t shirts. I have 2 cookbooks, plus others we bought. I bought 6 sweaters. 8 bottles of scotch (the 3 distillery visits/samplings did him in). 2 coffee cups, a troll, and a bunch of little stuff. Viking gave us jackets and beach bags. I sent my jacket home, TD kept his here. The beach bags went home too.
The next few days are going to be interesting.
