Until someone does something about MASN , we are stuck with having a provider in order to watch O's games. I especially hate that they add in a "regional sports fee" to the Directv package. At least we can put it on pause for 6 months during the winter.

Had very bad nightmares last night. I felt like I was screaming my lungs out but DH said I just sort of whimper and whine.
We dropped clothes at the cleaners and went to Aldi. I just finished wiping down the kitchen counters, appliances and cabinets with Lysol and mopping the floor. I'll dust a room or two this afternoon.

Without MASN on streaming, we are also stuck. We'd still need internet though and if you add in a couple streaming services, I'm not sure it's any cheaper.

Sorry about the nightmares, soupandstew. I'm impressed with your diligence in getting chores done. Me, I've done no chores at all for a week and a half, and won't do any for another week! Hmm, I could get used to this.

Just thinking of some old stuff we used to do. Have you ever blocked a sweater or used a curtain stretcher or pants stretchers? Or strait pinned a doily? How about washing hair with rainwater you caught, or rinsing it with vinegar for shine? Or using lemon juice to bleach it? Baby oil and iodine for a tan? Buttermilk on a sunburn, meat tenderizer on a jellyfish sting? PSA: When you have black hair and attempt to bleach it in this manner, you end up with Bozo the clown red hair.

No, seriously, hear me out of this. Sometimes the fries in poutine get soggy under the gravy. If you use tater tots, they stay crunchy. I was hesiatant too, but it is surprisingly good.

I do not know if it varies by state, but we had to open an estate account because of the money that came in as the return of my parents' investment in their apartment. It was required to be made to the estate of XXXXX. Bank in Iowa, will let you deposit small checks, like $100. Be careful on moving the money out of the account until the estate is settled. The insurance company from the car accident told Mister they would only release the funds to an estate account after his Mom’s death. Which is what led Mister to learning about the need for probate. then you definintely need to do probate. With respect to the life insurance, it belongs to whomever the beneficiary is. They can spend it on hookers and blow if they want. The estate account will be used to pay the funeral if necessary, pay any bills in her name along, and then be distributed to the heirs/beneficiaries. IF she didn't have a will, A quick google search tells me, "spouse and descendants equally share the intestate property, but the spouse's share may not be less than 1/3." Joint accounts and assets pass outside the estate to the co owner, but i don't know if those assets counts towards the 1/3. You have to talk to a TN lawyer about that issue.

I don't care about watching every Phillies game and Eagles games are all on network TV, so no need for us to pay for cable. Streaming services we do pay for monthly plus our internet bill is only $77/month. We pay the annual rate for MLS Season Pass ($80, and I am not a fan of AppleTV's coverage, boo); I'm still butt hurt the MLS put themselves behind a paywall just as the league is starting to generate interest, but not watching Union matches is not an option so we pay.

I am waiting for the evening sun to let me know if my new, streak-free window cleaner worked. It is 3 T alcohol, 3T vinegar and 1 cut water. I used a Mr. Clean sponge barely damp and dried with a microfiber cloth.

The funeral was paid for with one of her life insurance policies. That’s fine, that’s what she’d said that particular policy was for. Dad received the remainder of those funds after the funeral home was paid. The cemetery had to be paid upfront, Mister paid the $3k to the cemetery. There was also another life insurance policy. She didn’t have a will officially. We just found something she’d typed on her IPad and printed out that she called her last will and testament and typed out her wishes. Anyway, thanks for confirming that the other posters were correct about Dad being able to spend the life insurance money however he wants to.

I bit the bullet this weekend when I couldn't find French Open coverage and signed on for a couple things - Peacock and Tennis Channel.
- Peacock was running a deal, $20 for a year. I already put the note in my calendar to cancel before it resets. - Tennis Channel has a 7 day free trial to add it to my YouTube TV subscription. that will cover me for background noise this week, the 2nd week of the French Open. the confirmation email I got said I'd be charged a pro-rated fee (~$5) to line up with my monthly bill date, then next month would be $11. I might keep it through Wimbledon, then cancel.
in general, my internet (FIOS) is $80/mo. YouTube TV just raised rates to $72/mo. still cheaper than cable in this area, and the YTTV subscription means I install an app on my Fire Stick or smart TV, or I stream on phone or laptop. I don't need to pay $12/mo additional *per cable box* for standard cable. I have three TVs.

speaking of tennis, some of these matches have been insane so far. the one that's on right now, I could absolutely see it giving Isner/Mahut (Wimbledon '10, longest match ever) a run for its money. there's been a tiebreak rule in the 5th added, to prevent that from being a thing again.

I found typed papers in one of the steamer trunks in my Great grandma's basement yesterday. Turns out she wrote poetry. I had no idea. I found one she wrote about my dad when he was a baby and gave it to him. Hope I didn't break him again. I also discovered at one point in her life she got involuntarily committed! She went to the doctor and asked about having depression. He assured her they would run tests, sent her to the hospital and next thing she knew she was in the mental ward. JFC. Then she was writing about her relationship with God. She documented her experiences with birthing my grandmother and GU. That was both touching and heartbreaking. Despite everything she did truly love them and my dad. I had no idea GU was a blue baby. I knew he was premature but not born blue. That means my Great Grandmother was likely Rh negative which they wouldn't have really known about back then. Grandma is also Rh negative . My dad was born before Rhogam so he's an only child due to the risks. I am not sure if my dad is A negative or not. Not sure about my mom either. I know one of them is because my mom had to have the shot with both of us. Either way both of them have to be carrying at least one negative allele otherwise I would have been A positive. So somewhere in my mom's direct line is someone or two someone's who were A negative and passed the allele down to her. Science!

I know one of them is positive but since I am negative they had to both be carriers otherwise I am the milkman's baby. I believe both girls are positive. DH is A positive. I'll have to go back and look I think I have that information from when they were born. BTW that shot HURTS. That was one of the few I actually almost cried getting.

It's only an issue if a negative mother is carrying a positive baby, so if your mom got the shot she was negative. I was a needle phob when I was pregnant with my first and asked the doc if we could just test the dad's blood. If he was Rh- I wouldn't need the shot. He said they would give it anyhow because...milkman. eta: Never mind. Just saw you were negative, not positive. Yeah...Dad has to be +/-

I worry about that for hubs and I that is why I want to be near son. We are nowhere near something like that yet. But a stroke or just any health issue that damages the brain or just aging can do it. So I want someone competent to stop it. We went to town, bough a bit of groceries, $47 not bad. A lot of things I would not buy, will get veggies and fruit in the city. The produce looked bad. I was just glancing at prices as I went through. They have the box of cheese slices we buy at $19 now. Last I bought at Sam's was $8 something. You could drive to the city for just that one item. I can see them eventually closing at this rate. So I just picked up a few items. My Ozempic was $257 for one month but it hopefully will come down in another month when I get out of the donut hole. So can do that. I ordered 2 bottles of the makeup I use from Merle Norman $90. I wish I could cancel it, I would if I could. I'm like hubs there is a point that I am not paying anymore and it should have been today. I put on some from Neutrogena and it looks good. It was an old bottle so bought a fresh one for $8. After I finish the other 2 I'm not buying more of it. I will continue to use their face powder as I only buy 1 or 2 a year and their lipstick, unless I find a good substitute for less. I'm thinking this makeup might last me the rest of the year unless they have shrunk the bottles. I just don't believe that everytime I buy something that it should go up that much, it used to be $25, now over $45 for one. Ok, going to go out and water. Saturday it was dry, today the heat has really taken a toll and a lot of the grass is brown. Not looking good right now. I am letting water run in one flower bed. Need to change clothes and go water, don't want to lose my landscaping. As important and maybe even more so than location, is having up-to-date documents in place. 99% of the horror stories I've seen here result from people not having wills, POA's (both financial and medical) and other estate planning stuff. Or, if they have documents, it's years out of date and not applicable to the state they are living in at the time of need. I get it that folks sometimes don't want to empower family members for a variety of reasons (most of which are BS), but it will bite them and their family at some point I gave a copy of my will to my sister, with a few directions on the back. Numbers of my bank accounts. I have accident insurance in case I get hit by a show plow. Immediate cremation. No church service. Help DS with the technicalities, becuase he won't have a clue as to what to do.

I just talked to hubs, we are thinking of replacing the electric furnace with a heat pump. Hubs said there was one in it before and that would give us air conditioning at the house in Washington. We also want to have it nice in case we want to resell it. I am happy he got to go up there. He has been able to spend some time with son, grandson is staying with him on weekends and he is enjoying it all. Sounds like she and her sister have reconciled, that is a good thing. They all went out to dinner for grandsons birthday. Hubs said it was a Mexican place, I know it we wanted to try it. He said it was really good and not all that expensive. He said for 6 of them it was only $180, so that is a decent price. Hubs doesn't have anyone here to spend time with so this is very good for him. Might make him want to move. I talked with cousin who works as a part time real estate agent and she said this house should bring in the $500k's or more. I told her if we list it I'm starting at $650k, she did not disagree. We have a really nice home on a decent size lot of 4 acres. I'm waiting on the tech for the internet, but may go to the basement and start sewing, will take my phones with me. I saw Smokey going around the house carrying a snake, the thing was a foot or two long. He had his head way up to carry it, of course, brought it into the garage. I told him get it out of there. But it was injured enough all it was doing was coiling up, don't think it could slither away. Those cats will catch anything and everything. I haven't eaten yet, fed DD earlier. Hubs said son is getting rid of U Tube also, said he is paying $90 a month just for it. I don't blame him and little guy seems to pick out the dumbest stuff on it to watch. Others are cutting cable so I've been reading. We can get ABC, NBC, and CBS on roku, MSNBC seems to be a fee, but hubs said he can listen to it on Sirius. We are not getting rid of it. Ok, need to feed me too, already have DD. Did you kill it to put it out of its misery?

Saturday when Mister’s Dad was here, when he asked if my water was liquor, Mister actually had a small glass on the kitchen counter with some liquor in it. He drinks scotch and bourbon straight. I could smell that it was liquor while I was getting my water.
So at one point, Dad wanders in the kitchen and sometime later. Then when he was being all loud and complaining in the middle of the night, he tells Mister he “accidentally” drank out of his glass, thinking it was his. Well the only thing Dad had been drinking was water, because that was all we had in the refrigerator to drink. So, how did he think some brown liquor was his glass? And if I could smell it just being near the counter, how could he not smell it when he raised it to his face?
Anyway, he said he accidentally drank it, but he didn’t swallow it, he spit it back out. Mister said you spit it back in my glass?! He said uh, no, I swallowed it.
Mister told me about it yesterday.
This morning Brother hears their Dad on the phone telling somebody that Mister gave him some liquor this weekend. Mister hadn’t told Brother what Dad had done, but he knew Mister wouldn’t give his Dad liquor, so he interrupted Dad’s conversation and was like “Dad stop. I know Mister didn’t give you any liquor. Did you really drink some liquor” and Dad started stuttering because the person was still on the phone and said “well he didn’t give it to me, I accidentally drank it”.
Reason numbers 1001 and 2 why I feel some type of way about him being over here. I entertain games with Kiddo and my grandchildren, not with old men.

I love their store - we went there last year while we were on a trip and the guys are fabulous. They did not have what I was looking for on clearance, but they gave me a 50% discount, which was better than what they had on clearance. Hope you enjoy your bag.

Trying to focus. Forgot yet again to reach out to my emergency contact for a ride to tomorrow's doctor's appointment earlier and he is unavailable because he has a new job. (Think handyman to rich peeps in NJ in my area of CNJ.) Hopefully he will set up an Uber for me. Hope it won't cost me too much. Just finished lunch and right before that I called my county's bus phone line. They need 1.5 to 2 weeks minimum to get a doctor's appointment on the bus schedule. Luckily I meet the age requirements, 60 and over, but hopefully not needing a wheelchair or currently using a cane does not disadvantage me too much. I am not on Medicare or Medicaid, although I wonder if I could qualify for the latter as a secondary insurance. From a federal poverty level probably not, but normalized to NJ? Perhaps. I fall into very low income for my area which is just a touch over section 8.
The times are more limited than I would expect, but maybe its so whoever drivers the bus just works a 8 hour shift more or less? Doctor's appointments have to be 9AM or after. Last pickup from the office is 3:30PM. Have mine set for 4PM so I may want to move it. Think I should concentrate on getting the body shop estimate to AAA and making sure my form is correct as well.
Lastly, check to see what email did actually go to where I sent it. I am always amazed during these times of little sleep and bad allergies of things I though I emailed out, but did not. Sometimes I find them in drafts. Sometimes the delivery fails, and I don't catch it. Making me dizzy just thinking about it. At least I did not confirm my doctor's appointment, but I do not want to reschedule either if I can help it. Until I see the doctor, I can't return to work FT. I'm dizzy today too from weird sinus stuff in my forehead, but mosty capable. 60% of myself?

I get it. He's a walking talking liability.

He's going to lie and make up stories anyway, but you can slow him down. Think of him as an old malicious toddler that will say anything to get his way. Anything you do not want him to get into should be under lock and key. This includes alcohol and food. Mister should keep any glass of alcohol with him or it if he can't stay with it. Mister's dad could and easily might screw himself up with alcohol. You mix an old dehydrated body with alcohol and sometimes the results aren't pretty. Sometimes hospitalizations are involved. (Woman who worked at an AL and SNF. I've seen and witnessed some things, just sayin.)

He's an elderly guy who would exhaust most staff members at an assisted living and skilled nursing facility. Do not ask how I know.
