Mister is apparently crazy this afternoon, so I’ve not been trying to engage with him. I cleaned the kitchen so whatever he needs tomorrow morning will be clean and available. I made my secret sauce and put the steaks in it to marinate overnight, and made some more to use for hamburgers tomorrow.
I love, love, love me some Mister, but I’m not trying to deal with him when he is being an asshole, because I can be a real bitch and a PITA asshole too. He’s never seen that side of me because I don’t want him to, and because that’s not the kind of shit I want in our relationship. If I fight fire with fire, like I’m capable of doing, we both burn down, and that’s not what I want with him. He hasn’t done anything this evening to be an asshole, but I know him well enough to recognize the signs that mean he is in potential asshole territory. I’m not interested in that kind of energy, so Imma just do my own thing to try to enjoy this holiday weekend, and let him do his thing.

Mister is making spaghetti tomorrow with his BBQ. He will use fresh basil and oregano from my little garden, and diced tomatoes I froze last summer from the tomatoes I grew on the deck. I only had a chance to freeze 2 packages of diced tomatoes before the squirrels ate everything. Mister used one in some spaghetti a while back, and when everybody raved over the spaghetti he said the tomatoes I’d frozen were the secret ingredient. I guess he’s been reluctant to use the last package, because it was all we had. I told him to go ahead and use it tomorrow, we’ll have more tomatoes soon. Even though we still have to buy most vegetables from stores for now, it does something wonderful for my soul for him to cook with something I grew for us. If I get to the point that I can grow most of the vegetables we regularly eat, I will feel like I’ve accomplished something important. Me growing it so Mister can cook it sounds good to me. Since everything I’ve read says I need to start harvesting my basil soon, I texted Mrs. T and told her she’s welcome to get however much basil she wants, whenever she wants. Even with cooking, drying and storing some, I’m pretty sure I still have way more basil growing than I need for my household. I’d rather give it away than let it go to waste. She can have as much as she’d like, to cook fresh and store for use later. Why do they say harvest now? It's great if you can harvest now if other go-withs like tomatoes are in too, but mine grows strong until cold temps, usually late October. Same flavor as far as I can tell. From what I’ve read, harvesting them now, and regularly from this point forward, makes them grow even more, and prevents them from growing flowers to reproduce. I’ve been honest about the fact that I don’t know what the heck I am doing, so I am still open to all the advice I can get.

You can pick all the leaves you want and they just keep going. And you can also pinch off any flowers that might get started. I know some people say letting the plant flower makes the leaves a little bitter.

There was a fire in a Montreal Heritage building. An old monastery built in 1846. It was converted to over 55 residences. Nobody was hurt but I hate losing Heritage buildings. This is the second one this year. A beautiful even older building had to be demolished, because some Airbnb asshole wasn't careful and started the fire. It could't be saved.

I really do appreciate the wisdom and advice you and the other posters here are willing to share. Because like I keep saying, Idk what the heck I’m doing lol.

I am seeing a new tablet in my near future. The one I have works perfectly fine but the battery is cr*pping out pretty fast. Fortunately the Fire tablet isn't terribly expensive but I hate the electronic waste replacing it creates. Can't you have the battery replaced? I have had mine replaced on both my tablet and my phone before. Cost was $50 each, installed at the place I went to. I don't know if that's good or bad. I just wanted it done.

Got to London, had tea on Hyde Park where our hotel is. Walked around Hyde Park. Went to Oxford as in Oxford University. Went to Blenheim Palace, a stunning and enormous estate owned by Lord Marlboro and where Winston Churchill famously addressed parliament and others, 67000 people in audience. Also where he is buried. Had another tea there. Today we go to the Tower of London and to Westminster Cathedral and embark on the ship before a cruise on the Thames tonight.
I am having a marvelous time.

Well, dammit! TD gave me his cold, and last night I was utterly miserable. The alarm went off for our excursion in Narvik, and I just rolled over and went back to sleep.
Im sitting in the lounge right now, drinking freshly squeezed juice so the room can be made up. I’m sitting in the corner, avoiding people until I can hide away again. My head feels like it’s about to explode, and I have some Sudafed (the good stuff you have to sign away your first born child for) in the drug bag I brought.

Hopefully the orange juice and the Sudafed work for you. No fun to be sick and even less fun when you are on a trip.

I spent too many years hiding that side of myself from DH because I burn things to the ground, which led to some very bad habits for me. Recovering from those habits showed me that DH can handle it, and it has made us stronger in the end but it took a while. Just my 2 cents, but if you plan to marry him you both need to see all sides of each other.

So much to do today and so little motivation to do it. We had an emergency meeting at 3:30 PM yesterday afternoon. They wanted volunteers to work this weekend. I told them I already had plans. WTF - it's a holiday weekend. Anyway, I'm still working on firming up my plans.

Well, the neighborhood fence war is going nuclear tomorrow for sure. Since Neighbor #2 refused to contribute anything toward the 6' cedar fence which is standard here, Neighbor #1 is removing existing fence tomorrow and replacing it with 4' tall orange plastic construction fencing from Home Depot Neighbor #2 wants Neighbor #1 to pay the full cost of a 4' chain link. Her stated reason, "I don't want to have to replace wood pickets in 20 years". Ummmmm, she's 65 now so...... It's going to be insanely hot and humid with yet another day of unbearably poor air quality so I'm just going to watch the fun. Has the war officially started this morning?
Just out of curiosity, did neighbor #2 know ahead of time the type and color of the new fence being put up? I would have loved to see her expression when she found out it was orange! Neighbor #1 has a great sense of revenge with a touch of humor.

I don't hear any noises yet so I think he's waiting until 9 since it's Saturday. I don't think Neighbor #2 knows anything yet I expect by late afternoon we'll hear some yelling for sure. Neighbor #1 is very funny and a genuinely nice guy until you cross the line

Being lazy and not wanting to get up. I decided to declutter and clean the house. I feel like a hoarder. I put in about 4 hours yesterday of decluttering and laundry. I still have my bedding to wash and I don't want to do it.

Kitchen Tip of the Day
Unless you are of a background where orange/red skin looks natural, wear gloves when applying a rub containing paprika, chili powder, and allspice to your meat. You're welcome!

The one she brought up to chiver's was more complete than my makeup drawer! I'll say she's an Acquisition Manager.

I wasn't a traditional house wife. I did stay home when the kids were little. But mom started them in kindergarten and got them as I had to go to work. Hubs was a seasonal construction worker back then and had a bad year so I had to do something. He didn't like it and made it so hard on me. He finally got used to it, if mom hadn't helped, I could not have afforded to work. It was not easy.
So after that I was not home, worked a lot of hours, not good. DIL doesn't know what she wants to do, she gets hot for something then forgets it. She is talking spending $75k to become a dental hygenist but knowing her she either won't finish the course or get into it with someone. I did explain that is a job where you can deal with a lot of nasty stuff, I don't think she thought about that. I said if you don't mind it would be ok. After she is anywhere for a bit, she claims people are mean to her and are a..holes. She really has an attitude, I have seen her interact with people and she is not very nice to them. I'm sure she doesn't realize it and I am not about to say anything. I just overlook it. Don't get me wrong I know her and like her but she never sticks with anything. Son told her if she just wants extra money McDonalds close by is hiring. Problem is he travels a lot so never know for sure if she will have someone to get him. He turns 8 June 6th. She only worked in their tavern in Korea is all she has done. She is an artist, a real talent. She can create beautiful things, paintings, wreaths, decorator items, but won't pursue it. Son has tried to encourage her and will build her a building when they can afford it. He wants her to make things and he will post them for sale for her, but she won't.
And he does most of the cooking, when he does work at the office many nights comes home and cooks. When works at home its no issue. But each of us has our own ways so I'm not about to interfere in that. When I'm up there I will cook about everyother night and have them over, I don't mind. We are all different whatever works for them. They need to work it out, not us saying anything.
Hubs is taking little guy to the air museum in Seattle today and maybe for a ferry ride too. They will have a great time together. Son doesn't take him all that much, his mom does though. But then other than for work son doesn't go anywhere except his once a year trip. His dad is like that when he is home, so I have my own set of problems. Like now, I have to watch money closer with buying that place, it is costing us, and I hear everyday how I need to get rid of the cats, sigh, and of course hubs says you wanted it. So there is some underlying stuff with us too. Oh well, it's just life and we will all get through it one way or another.
I thought I had lost my Smokey last night. He always comes in and I hadn't seen him since about 1. Finally I went to the big garage and there he was. I didn't think he followed me out there when I got the headphone radio for mowing and apparently he did. I didn't even see him, he was glad to see me. I hugged him all the way to the house. And he curled up beside me and slept there most of the night. Tig was on hubs bed. I love my little boys, they are so much company for me. But yes, it is an issue with us going back and forth.

I have so many quilts it's crazy. MIL made cheaters quilts but they are nice and I'm not getting rid of them. Hubs said well you will have to some day. DIL would take them but she has nowhere to put anything, their house is overflowing. So I need to put them in the basement in bags. I have the 2 feather quilts to squish down and bag too. I have gotten rid of lots of things but still have too much. But I'm trying NOT to add more stuff to it. The main part of the house is ok upstairs and DD has quit buying tons of stuff too so we are doing better.

Happy weekend everyone! I can't wait to get home and get my busy weekend started (I've been helping my mom and aunt with my grandmom since Thursday evening). Husband and I are going to a concert tonight - Le Tigre; we saw Bikini Kill last month so I'm calling it my spring of Kathleen Hanna. Tomorrow we're having dinner with friends and I'm making my spaghetti salad. I love spaghetti salad season. Monday we have our town's Memorial day service in the morning (as a council member, I make sure to attend these things) and then my friend's birthday party cookout in the afternoon. I took off Tuesday to give myself a day of proper rest.

My WaterPik quit charging and Google says it's likely the charger so I've hooked it up with DH's charger and we shall see. The damn thing is less than a year old .
