Debthaven 30 Sept 2022 16,500 euros (Goal 17,000 euros)Today I was finally able to replace the 2000 of savings I used over the summer. However I wasn't able to add more. I also changed my end-of-year goal from 16,500 to 17,000.

Didn't you have to use it because you were not paid correctly?

Yes TheOtherMe ... I usually get that money in late July and use it for the summer, but it came two months late this year.

Regular contribution DONE. Just a slow glide to the end of the year filling the catch-up now. So nice having just 13% of my check going to retirement instead of 59%!

Yesterday.....
Usual payroll savings went through to 401k and HSAs....pissing away into the wind of the constant stock market/Rukh NW declines.....put another 1k into treasuries. Will keep up at least 1k/month into treasuries until I have to start back on the student loan payments....then will see where I am at...

Not pissing it away into the wind, you are buying low and holding. It will go back up. NEVER in the history of the stock market has it not gone back up. As long as you don't sell or take it out, you have lost nothing. Keep plugging away! Teachermom

I really had to dig around for my last update. It's been more than 3 months. In that time I sold a place, bought a place, and moved 2,000 miles. What a crazy life it's been. At some point my furniture and possessions will catch up with me, but at this point they're stuck in a broken down moving van somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

crap serious! hope you get your stuff soon!!
DD had a horrible time moving, litigating with the moving company now. Would have been better if she sold and bought new. the moving company just turned out to be a brokerage for anyone who said they were movers, and it seemed she ended up with deliberate theives.

My savings rate has really slowed down, but I also think I've moved some money around into Ibonds and such and haven't done a great job tracking. Weirdly it doesn't bother me. I'll do a better job tracking next year. We've also been spending what we want for trips, shopping, and eating out. Again, I'm not worried about it because it will level off.

If you are on the WIRR thread, then you know my financial life has spiraled. If you aren't, here is where I lay it all out: ymam.proboards.com/post/3393770/threadH and I are currently working to dig ourselves back out. Our savings have taken a little hit to help us get the ball rolling. Contributions moving forward will be minimal for the time being. Nik - I read thru your racing posts. Any other monthly subscriptions you can cut? More mindful grocery shopping, less eating out. Not sure how old your kids are but thrifting for their clothes and keeping Christmas simple can go a long way. I see you have savings listed for them here. You might consider using most of it to pay on high interest rate cards. I get that you have savings goals for the kids but the financial math doesn't make sense. Figure out your bare bones emergency fund and then use some/most of the kids savings to hit another card. You can make a goal to replenish the savings when you're on firmer ground.
Hang in there. DH and I learned a hard credit card lesson too.

Hang in there. DH and I learned a hard credit card lesson too. Same. Well, not so much credit card, but at one point in my late 20's, early 30's Ex 1.0 and I had 15 outstanding loans/lines of credit. I don't even remember it being that bad, but found an old print out from MS Money that was shoved in a book. Mortgage, second mortgage, HELOC, land loan, a couple vehicle loans, a loan against a CD my mom had, probably some zero interest store stuff, student loans, yada yada.
It's part of the reason I get so much anxiety even with 0% offers and why stuff that I could pay off over time (like Carrot's tuition), I try to have paid off ahead of time. Once you're free of all that you never want to see red again.
Chase is offering me 18 months no fees, no interest if I set up a plan before Dec 31st. I'm thinking of putting the balance of my cruise on there to keep the cash ($5800 plus anything I add before then). I don't think I can max my ROTH next year if I don't. Mathematically it makes sense, but really struggling with the emotional side.

DH and I learned a hard credit card lesson too. We don't contribute more than $100 a year per kid to those savings accounts. That is their money (birthday, earned $, piggy bank cash ins), so I do not want to touch it. [my kids are 12 and 7] If it was money we had given them, it would be different. I am already super locked in on grocery savings. I only spend $125 every 2 weeks for all of our grocery and household items- couponer, meal planner around sales, etc. It's getting harder to fit in that budget window with the prices increasing, but I am doing a decent job. And thankfully, I am 85% done with Christmas (i save all year, so its always paid for in cash), so finishing that out cheaply shouldn't be a problem!!

Azucena $18,181 of $30,000 (61%) as of 10/28/22
Projected out the rest of the year and we can still hit $30k goal if we hunker down a little bit.

I had a lot of expenses since April - trip to my son's graduation, trip to home country, beach trip with my dog and sons, boarded my dog for the first two trips to the tune of about $2K and bought a $3.5K couch. I moved a bit of money from Emergency fund to Post Tax account - bought 10K of I-Bonds (Thanks Rukh O'Rorke) and put 10K into a MM account at Fidelity. I'm ok with that. Glad I was able to push off the AC replacement another year. I am going on a Caribbean vacation with my son in December. So, will be spending quite a bit for that. I'm not sure if I can save any more this year. Hopefully I can cash flow the vacation and make up the emergency fund. The basement flooring was done well within budget. So I'm removing it in the calculation. I just left it here to show I completed it. I also cash flowed sump pump and backup pump replacement to the tune of $1000 in Jan. Still need to replace the battery - about $200 which I'll cash flow. I got my annual bonus which was about $16K this year that helped with the savings. I need to fund my travel and stay to DS2's graduation and a 3 weeks international trip for my DS2 and me in summer. This will mean boarding my dog which will cost about $2.5K for the 4 weeks. So, don't expect to be able to save much more this year. I don't expect to meet the roof replacement goal this year. Hopefully I can meet the MM account atleast. Annie7 1/1/2022, $69,699 (Goal $120,000)

I want to fund a MM account for after tax savings. I might move existing money from my other categories there. I added "Other Maintenance" since there are some things I want to do for the house and yard. Basement flooring is the only thing that I know for sure will be done this year. The others are all "if possible and if needed".

Just realized I didn't update at the start of November. It doesn't feel like I'm doing anything anymore, so kind of "meh" with the update. I didn't time it as perfectly as I wanted to so probably going to have at least one paycheck that doesn't get a match, maybe 2 depending on whether or not they give us a Q3 bonus. They do a true up contribution sometime in Q1 so it's not lost money, but I like just getting it right away.

They are gathering the outstanding balances and will let me know. As we've mentioned many times before in the Savers threads, even when you have the money saved for a particular purpose, and then you spend the money for that purpose, it's hard to let go of those funds. But this is a good purpose. It makes me feel happy to spend that money.

I'm down to just needing $137 to max the 401K and two paychecks left. Didn't time it quite as perfectly as I had hoped because I'll get one check with no match. They do a true up sometime in Q1, but I prefer immediate payout.
I'm sure going to miss these big paychecks come January!

Debthaven: 2 Dec 2022 17,500 euros (Goal 17,000 euros)
I will probably spend some of this on Christmas gifts. DH and I don't go crazy but we have a lot of people to buy for (4 kids, 2 spouses/partners, 2 grandkids), each other. Plus my niece and her two kids will be here this year. So 12 ppl this year!
We promised to buy DD a couch for her new apartment. The one she wants is very expensive, so we'll just give her some money towards it.

I had an amazing salary from Job 1 this month, paid early. It included a retirement bonus.
PS For now we have managed to cash flow Christmas without using savings but we’ll see where we stand after everyone leaves on 30 Dec.

Debthaven: 28 Dec 2022 21,500 euros (Goal 17,000 euros)
I had an amazing salary from Job 2 this month too! It included a retirement bonus.
We will look at getting our huge single-pane French doors replaced ... We never expected that to happen in our lifetime! It may not, but at least we can get a few estimates!

Mollyc (2) Mar 5/22 $611.65 (Start - Jan 2/22 - 531.30) I think March was the last time I posted. I really like the format above but I never figured out how to update it without needing to rebuild it. I haven’t the patience for that. I just wanted to post a final update before the thread is closed. It will be a much simpler version. Dec 31/22 balance $535.92 Ongoing ($200.63) Goal-$3,000 Short $3,200.63 Auto $131.18 Goal-$4,000 Short $3,868.82 Fortis (NG) $205.37 Goal-$255 Short $49.63 BC Hydro (Elec) $400 Goal-$400 Short $0 I’m okay with this because the ongoing and auto savings have covered most of the auto and dog costs that have come up over the year. The rest I’ve been able to cash flow. Between the middle of Nov to the middle of Dec, I spent over $1,000 just on Stevie’s ear infection so my side jobs and the savings saved the day. Have a Happy New Year!

Too lazy to find my last update esp after I've been immersed in compiling all of my yearend numbers.
as of 12/31/22 we saved $30,472 which is 102% of our $30,000 goal.
This is where I'll also confess that when I saw we were going to make our goal, I let some spending fly. I took advantage of the Christmas sales and my productivity streak and bought lots of things I've wanted for the house - decor and organization mostly. Amazon and target made an absolute killing off me. So many packages have been arriving that my family is teasing me about thinking the delivery guys are hot ROFL.
I'm staying accountable about installing the items I've bought - lights, decor, etc of procrastinating. And, I'll turn off the spending here shortly. Leaving myself an out for post-Christmas sales LOL.
Time to start thinking about 2023 goals!

Debthaven: 1 Jan 2022 22,750 euros (Goal 17,000 euros)My interest posted (it posts annually). I added 30 euros to get it to the next 250 mark. azucena you work so hard, and you earn great money. Good for you for splurging. Knowing you, I'm guessing it's to make your home/lives even better and easier. I too am thinking about next year's goals. I was AMAZED by my retirement bonuses ... turns out it's the law LOL. So I'm getting/organizing estimates to replace our huge single-pane glass French doors with double-glazing. DH has to measure them for 2 of the estimates. I'm hoping he'll do that this week. The cost has always been prohibitive, so we'll see.
