I managed to put another $650 into Race #2. I will have another update by the end of the month. I probably need to add a savings category for pet care too.

Another good month due to OT and it being a 3 paycheck month. Added $4220 to 401K.
I got a promotion and a 12% raise which will hit on the 5/27 check. Not sure what I'm going to do here yet. Between this raise and the one a couple months ago it really changes the landscape for me. I'm still playing the financial aid game this year and have a hard stop on what I can make before falling off a huge cliff. Before, reaching that was going to be very hard with lots of OT (the number is almost 10K more than I've ever made), but now I'll hit it without a lot of effort and have to be careful not to go over. I can only work about 100 more hours of OT for the rest of the year. To contrast, I've already worked 190 in the first 4 months. So...all this means was that I was planning on throwing a chunk of the raise at my 401K to max it faster, but now I'm thinking I might just leave it and instead start staying home on weekends more. Basically, taking my raise in more time than money for the remainder of this year. Next year college won't be a consideration anymore (at least for a few years until I have to start thinking about Carrot, but by then things could be way different).
MPL $12393 of $27,000 (46%) as of 4/28/2022

I was able to add an additional small amount at month's end. I also added a bit to a savings account I don't track here. Next month will be lean as far as savings go. Twice in the past week I've been able to recognize that a trip to the store was a want that sprung out of boredom. So I stayed home. Twice in the past week! Imagine how that adds up. It's a hole that needs to be recognized and plugged.

No update this month because my stupid job didn't pay me for my extra classes!!! (About 1K). WTF?! I've written to the woman and HR 3 times. I still haven't had a response!!! I'm leaving it till the next deadline (10 May) before I escalate it, because unfortunately, the person who didn't pay me is also the person who attributes those extra classes. She was off sick ... so apparently there is ONE person doing extra payroll for an entire campus?! I've heard this problem before from colleagues, but personally I have never had a problem until last month.

debthaven I am sorry you did not get paid. I work in higher ed and I am the only person who processes payroll. At this time I am not sure what would happen if I was unable to work.

ners to be clear, I DID get paid ... just much less than I should have been paid. My "regular" classes are paid automatically, but my staff/faculty classes don't appear on my "official" schedule, they need to be "approved" by the person who is absent. Those "extra" classes are about 1K per month, so not chump change! I ended up emailing my boss S and asking if she could either contact someone for us, or tell us who to contact. 5 minutes later we get an email saying X is off sick, so please send your timesheets to Y instead. Which I did immediately! I thanked S! She said I'd love to take credit for this, but it's pure coincidence LOL. S said, I was inquiring about who can take care of this in X's absence when that email came through. In any case, I should be paid for those "extra" March and April hours at the end of May. That's nearly 2K for two months! But it's true, every institution should have at least 2 people who can do payroll! It's an inconvenience for me, but for some people, it could be devastating!

I got an email today confirming that they had approved my March and April staff/faculty classes, so I'd be paid for both months at the end of this month.

debthaven I totally understand how this could be devastating for some employees. I try my best to get everyone accurately paid. My employer is working on rectifying the issue of only one person. The day I broke my arm I finalized payroll and notarized a document before I sought medical attention.

I was able to add to weekly savings, but that is likely all I will be able to do this month. I finished my taxes in April. Then I adjusted my withholding to have much more taken out for federal taxes. The change will hit with my June 1 pension check. Add to that, I am still hoping something will click in place regarding the small condo I'm trying to buy to be closer to my DGS, DS and DDIL. And I am tweaking some things around this place in case I decide to put it on the market. The gardener comes next week. Plus, my travel plans for next winter require a large deposit to be paid in June. All spending for the foreseeable future will have to be watched very carefully.

Hi savers.....I'm still doing the usual, just can't account for it.
All I can think of is that in the time it took me to save 5k (the average monthly savings....)I've lost 10x that in the market.....every month.....for several months....
Time to start putting on my blinders and just automate and keep moving forward on other things....Like leaning over to pick up a quarter and a $20 falls out your pocket and blows away.....
if you can't catch it just keep walking and try to take your mind off it.

Debthaven 28 May 2022 16,000 euros (Goal 16,500 euros)
I'm going to be using some of this for summer vacation, and some of to live on during the summer when I'm not working (I'm an adjunct). Plus, this will be a very spendy summer.
Next fall is my last full semester before I retire. At that point I'll retire, and take my pension. I'll continue to work, but MUCH less. For how long?! Dunno, we'll see.

debthaven, I can't tell you how happy I am to hear about your planned retirement. It seems to me you've been going more than full speed ahead for so long. I hope you enjoy your summer break and look forward to your for-real slowdown.

Hi Saver Ladies! And gents too perhaps? Sorry I haven’t participated in 2022. I hope to read and catch up and at least cheer on the updates. In 2021-2022 We fixed up and sold rental house, used the proceeds as down payment and fix up funds for a fixer up house on a canal which leads to the Tomoka and Halifax rivers. It’s way more fixing needed than we anticipated, lots of money shuffling, probably bit off more than we should have. We also sold the house we had lived in and that money is going toward mortgage pay down and continuing fixing. I miss my former house, however our present setting is on an acre and very natural. That was the draw. Congratulations and good wishes to all continuing and new folks. Maybe I can get the savings pump primed yet this year and join your excellent efforts.

The day I broke my arm I finalized payroll and notarized a document before I sought medical attention. So sorry ners , I've been meaning to respond to this for ages! It's not right that I didn't get paid because someone was off sick. It's also absolutely not right that you couldn't seek medical attention as soon as you needed it! I'm glad your employer is working with you to designate/train another person. I hope that will take some of the pressure off.

I'm in again as this thread definitely motivates me to save more than I would on my own. Bumping up my goal from $30,000 past my $35,000 stretch goal, to $40,000 of which $5k will fund property tax at yearend. I don't want to just coast at $30,000; I want to push us to save just a bit more since DH got a raise partway thru last year. I will likely spin off some of the savings into an IRA but still count it because it's additional saving that I wasn't doing before.
Azucena $0 of $40,000 (0%) as of 1/1/2022
I set up $340/bimonthly into a post-tax IRA and will increase it when I get a raise in March. Work moved our 401k to Fidelity, so I now have the option to put in up to $10,000 post-tax thru payroll deduction. Fortuitous timing! Need $4,481 to hit the illusive $100,000 in liquid savings. This is currently split $65k in plain old savings account, $11k in a CD earning 2%, and $20k in I Bonds. Will likely shift another $20k to I Bonds so it can earn a little more. And yes, that's a lot of dough to leave liquid but it's the right choice for us given DH's past health issues. Our only debt is $225k mortage at 2.5% with 2035 payoff which we will not prepay. We're also on track for our age 60 retirement goal.
Looks like I skipped over Jan update, so here's our balance after first Feb paycheck. Azucena $5,045 of $40,000 (13%) as of 2/4/2022 Had a long post and lost it. I realized I'm putting $1000/month in new AT investments new for 2022 that I wasn't accounting for so I feel justified in putting my goal back to $30k to match 2021. A plug for savers to look at Ibond thread if you haven't already. I've been moving my savings account into Ibonds to earn more. Azucena $11,157 of $30,000 (37%) as of 6/3/2022

Been a month or two since my last update, finally able to think past the stock market meltdown, and plan through this time. Focusing on more stock aquisition to get to a positive on the downturn. Also trying to build more security, so also looking at TIPS and treasuries. So turning the MM goal to MM and stocks and TIPS and treasuries....not feeling the need for an EF per se, but do want some money not in market. Need to think about how much that should be. Did not get a very heafty bonus, but it was something and did put some towards the 401k. Put in a readjust to my 401k to max by year end, but it did not go through last pay period, so will have to increase it even more to max. Was able to put an additional 4500 tax deferred into the SEP-IRA, so that is an added goal, bringing my target savings for the year up to 65k. Will see if I can manage it. Will depend on getting some more RI money, already had my biggest check for RI for the year, but that is going towards 2021 tax bill plus the SEP, so will see how much I have left at end of month, then will make some more moves. Will still have a nice chunk to work with, although the tax bite was larger than expected.

I'm doing pretty well on taming my spending. I'd "borrowed" $1,000 at the end of May from one of my savings sub-accounts that I don't track here. I was able to return that money to its rightful sub-account. Since my last update I cash flowed a few birthday, wedding, and memorial gifts. No need to tap the Gift account. That's a win. As predicted, my travel account was used to pay a large deposit for next winter's trip. As we've discussed here, saving money for a particular purpose and then spending it for that purpose still hurts when you see the lower account balance.

Looks like I did not get a raise at all this year, I'm a bit befuddled TBH. In this environment? I suspect because I got a promotion last year, but come on! That was nearly a year ago. Not sure how I will approach. Boss was out today, will ask her on Monday if this is really *not* happening. And then to find out how many on my team may not have gotten one. I would think they would tell you if you weren't getting the COL. I'd be embarassed if one of my reports didn't get the COL and I didn't know and didn't talk with them about it. I think the CEO mentioned something at the last meeting, and someone I talked to about maybe not getting one said they thought that some people may not get it if others were farther away from market value. I could try to quit. I could maybe just stop working so hard. But - the status quo will not continue. I would have been ok with even 1.8%, but nothing? With 8%+ inflation? no, I will do something.
