So, I haven't been around for a couple years and thought I'd jump back in for 2022. My list of savings goals for this year is so outrageous you'd probably all think I'd lost my mind, but I looked them over and a couple are automated (HSA and 529), one is complete (funded 2022 Roth) and some are just pipe dreams hoping for snowflake money...so I'm going to keep it really simple and just have one to focus on here.
I would like to max my 401K including catch-up contributions. Just. This. Once. I can't just set my allocations to X% and be done because I don't make enough. It's going to require some luck with quarterly bonuses, hopefully at least a small raise, and most of all...OT...a lot of it. MPL $3398 of $27,000 (13%) as of 2/4/2022

Seems like we still need to find smilie grantors to replace our benevolent leaders. Maybe we could take monthly turns? I'm willing to take a shift, and June would work best for me. I took the liberty of starting signups below that can be quoted and edited.
February -
March -
April -
May -
June - Azucena
July -
August -
September -
October -
November -
December -
This is a great idea! I'd been updating the smilies by setting up the first update of the year with a borderless table, and editing for each successive month by quoting and editing. I can do one soon, and whoever signs up for a particular month can find the previous update, quote, edit, and post. Let me get to that in a day or two.

3/26 pay periods....spring is just around the corner The stock market continues to slide. In my work 401k, my balance has been up and down around the same value for 4 months, while I'm putting in 2-2.8k/month (including employer contributions). Disheartening!! This is the only pot of money I can easily access before 59.5 with the rule of 55, so one of my metrics to retire was when this pot has enough to take me to 59.5 - so I watch it like a hawk! Trying to keep cheerful about things.......and not tempt fate!

It's doubtful several of these will happen and if I do end up putting 15K in I bonds, it will probably be because I took it from somewhere else, like draining my EF. I don't even make this much so mainly it's a plan if money falls in my lap.

Went over $20k in my EF, but it might go down a little next month - we'll see. I also switched jobs, so I'll have to see how the 401k savings evens out. I might have to play a number game to figure out how to max with a few lost paychecks.

Got a 5% raise and funneled it all to the 401K catch-up. Hopefully the request goes through before the next paycheck...it should since that's not until March 4th. Calling it a month since my only goal here is from payroll deduction. Worked a lot of OT this month.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. It has been hard. So far 2022 hasn't been great. Came home from my mom's service and woke up with Covid (for real this time).....super sick for 2 weeks!! Between Jan 10 and Feb 10, I was at school for only 5 days. So much to catch up on and my students have hated having subs. Still haven't had a chance to sit down and decide my savings plan for the year. Maybe this weekend!
Hope everyone is doing well.

oh my gosh, that is fantastic! congrats! Not as great as it sounds. It only works out to be $1/hour and starting wage went up $6/hour. So, I'm barely making more than starting now! But, I'm still making more, so not complaining.

4/26 pay periods....we had spring for 2 days, didn't even get outside really (I was working and didn't realize anything was happening till I noticed all the snow was melting outside the windows....) and then a sharp drop in temp and huge snowstorm came in.... this has continued, I'm worth less every singe day, while continuing to shovel in..... Also trying to keep on with the cheerfulness. Retirement in 2022 would appear to be completely off the table right now. So, maybe 2023? I'm continuing to focus on the Ibonds. Then I'll move on to something else that is secure. One caveate I realized today. So I put 1k into Ibonds just to try to make myself feel better about all the stock losses I think! But when I say I put 250 to the MM, I'm likely going to come up short for first week bill in March due to the 1k ibond purchase and getting paid the 4th so it will miss a lot of the early bills, and then I'll pull out of the MM to cover that, so it isn't really the case, or is not necessarily the case, that I am contributing 1k here and 250 there. I need to ponder this out a bit, see if I do need to pullout of MM to make those bills or not and what that mean I did get my big RI project in, earlier this year than last. Have not yet heard from the other client. If I have the Ibonds filled/close to filled by the time I get this payment (anticipate at least another month on the project before billing), it will be fun to think how to use the money. Hopefully not for the taxman!!

so, gonna leave me hanging? $27,000 401K ***same $7,300 HSA ***less cuz I'm single now. $15,000 I Bonds (probably just by draining my EF) ***ooo - you overpayed taxes last year to do this or overpaying this year to do it? $7,000 2023 IRA ***I haven't done an IRA in years, will see what my new tax guy says.... $1,200 529 ***I'm done with this one! $3,000 ESA (I'll more than likely drain it by 3K rather than add 3K) LOL ***idk what this is! $2,000 Vacation ***I don't know what this is either! $1,000 Christmas *** I never save for this, just spend....... $63,500 Total ***more than my plans! Very aggressive!! I've compared goals to yours above, one or two questions.......will be interested to see how we do. My plan is more aggressive than last year's goals, even thought I did not meet them all in 2021. There is always hope But, how close is your savings goal to your annual income? I thought you said you didn't make a lot. But maybe you only talk about the regular hours money, and not mention the OT pay?

But, how close is your savings goal to your annual income? I thought you said you didn't make a lot. But maybe you only talk about the regular hours money, and not mention the OT pay? I don't make much. Without OT, it's like 43K/year, with OT and bonus I'm usually around 50K. I told you my goals were whack-a-doodle. Mostly I just have this as a plan in case money falls in my lap. However, I also bring in about 10K/year in child support and with an AGI of around 22K I get a lot of refundable credits, federal and state. EIC, child tax credit, American Opportunity Credit (college tuition), working family credit...we're talking 9-10K in credits...which makes it really hard to decide to dial back on retirements savings. Everytime I get a raise, it's like welp, it's going into retirement I guess. Don't want the AGI to go up.
I also have a little side goal of hitting 60K income this year...while keeping AGI under 27K. 52K is the most I ever grossed, so that's a pretty big jump. That's totally dependent on the OT availability though. Right now it's whatever I want pretty much, but they are hoping the increased starting wage will get more people in the door so they can cut the OT.
eta: realistically, the only ones I'm confident I'll meet are 401K, HSA, IRA, and 529.

I have given it some thought and have several things I need to accomplish this year.
First, I need to save a 6 months EF. I have really no bills except streaming devices and car insurance. I sold my home at live at my fiance's. So....I think $10k would be a good amount, probably more than I need. I put $5k in when I sold my house in Jan and $500 more in Feb. I have an auto transfer set up for $500 per month.
Goal #1 - EF $5516.05 2/22/22 ($0 1/1/22, Goal $10,000)
Second, I need to start saving up for a new to me car. Thinking an older Pilot or CRV. I have a Pilot I love but it has 323k miles and counting so I need to prepare. Thinking $25k will be a good goal. I have saved $2897.34, putting $200 in through auto transfer and any other found money during the month.
Goal #2 - Car fund $2897.34 2/22/22 ($0 1/1/22, Goal $25,000)
Third, I am starting wedding and honeymoon funds. I won't be paying for all of it and we don't even have a date set, but thought I would save $5k in each. I currently have $100 in each.
Goal #3 - Wedding and Honeymoon - $10k total $200 2/22/22 ($0 1/1/22, Goal $10k)
I have some money that I am owed from a friend and will throw all of that to these goals too.
Happy saving all! Teachermom

Debthaven, 29/1/22, 14,500 euros (Goal 16,500 euros) Debthaven, 23/2/22, 14,700 euros (Goal 16,500 euros)
I forgot to update earlier this month. I should have another update next week. (I get paid once a month.)
I had to use savings in January because my Dec pay sucked (because December/Christmas). It should be better going forward.

I said I would try to get the smilies done within a few days of azucena's post setting out months for us to sign up. I did try to get to it, but it's almost the end of the month so I will do February smilies on March 3.

Update: nooccar: 2/26/22 $24,399.87 (Goal $25,000) I was able to add my tax refund as well as the sick leave buyout to the travel fund to meet that goal. I will continue to add to it since I can always use more travel money! It can also act as a secondary EF if needed. Thanks to posts here, I've been inspired to investigate I-bonds. I plan to move $1000 a month of the EF into a bond, starting in March, so they are laddered. I hope to never need to actually use the EF as income so it might as well earn better interest than it is now, and it will still be accessible after the first year.

ETA: Much of this update is not new money. It's money I had in a zero-interest checking account that I keep in case I need actual face-to-face customer service. All other accounts are in an online bank, so for those few random banking transactions I need a local brick-and-mortar place. The new money I added is from my income tax refund.

Ok, I've been doing this but not posting numbers. My only debt is my mortgage and I've minimized my monthly expenses. Yay for me! So my goal for 2022 is to put $26,000 into my TFSA and $10,000 Emergency Fund that I don't put into investments. Emergency Fund Goal $10,000 Saved $1,500 TFSA Goal $26,000 Invested $4,000 I'm putting away about 50% of my net income.

I was disappointed with my Feb salary, it seemed low. (I get paid once/month.) I got my payslip today and indeed, they shorted me 200 euros. It'll be added on to March.
I spend too much time trying to decide how to best reduce my hours next semester. Given how little I earn, that's probably a dumb thing to aspire to LOL. But I can't see myself getting through yet another semester if I don't reduce by a bit more.
