Wow snapdragon ! Are you retiring? Or taking some time off while you move? In either case, best of luck to you! I managed to cash flow my October wrist surgery, which I'm very happy about. But I'll get a crap salary at the end of January because I was off most of Dec. So whether my savings stays intact remains to be seen. I'm finally reducing my hours this year, so I don't know whether this goal is feasible. We'll see! Debthaven, 14/1/22, 15,500 euros (Goal 17,500 euros)

I pretty much plan on retiring and not working a "regular" job. But I DO plan on increasing my more philanthropic thoughts and teachings in the area I am moving to.

seriousthistime - 2021 thread was locked, but I wanted to say thank you for all the details that you compiled in the summary shout out. You did a great job noting our accomplishments. Will you write my work performance review next year please?!

Will you write my work performance review next year please?! LOL! Thank you. I value everyone who posts updates, however regular or not. I feel like you are all my friends. I am a big positive reinforcement person. I had more in the shoutouts to write up for the regular posters like you, but I tried to incorporate the big events and successes into the shoutouts for everyone. I and my team did Myers-Briggs when I still worked. In a room full of people, everyone except one person said the thing they most valued was to be recognized and thanked. Only one person said money was the thing she most valued. I was kind of shocked that more people didn't say money. Ever since then, I try to let people know they are appreciated.

Hi Saver Friends,
Some bad news and some OK news. My cousin passed away a week ago. She was a very "young" 72. Several years ago I had agreed to be her executor and thank God she kept her life's paperwork organized. I'm drowning in stress and responsibilities over cleaning and clearing out her house and cleaning and clearing out her farm property. The OK side is that she had a good financial head on her shoulders and that DH and I won't have to be financially concerned about me retiring early this year.
Miss you CJ <3

Hi all.....I am so far behind on last years thread and even getting started for this year. I will work on a plan for my savings this weekend.
Lots of changes have happened. My house sold....yeah!! Moved on New years eve eve in 18 inches of snow. Totally sucked! Got the UHaul completed stuck in the snow blocking my whole street for about an hour while we dug out. Fun times!
Anyway, with proceeds....I am 100% debt free!!! Never thought I would say that. Now just saving for my future. I will need a new car sometime as mine has 320K miles but plan to save and drive it as long as I can. My plan is to fund my Roth for last year and start on this years. After that....not much left, but no bills. I live at my fiance's. He is paying all the bills for his home and I just buy gas and food. He is still working in GA and I am taking care of his house.
Have lots of things I want to save for so just need to get that on paper. More later!

ok - set up to max by years end, but will need to tweak numbers a bit after bonus around may/june - if there is a bonus! 2/26 pay periods! Wow, time is moving! Good thing I took the "maybe I'm going to be working for all of 2022" route, I've lost so much stock value in the last 2 weeks I can't even wrap my head around it. Just when I thought it could get any worse unless we had a certified bear market event, Netflix tumbled 20% today. 20%!! That was my second largest holding. Are we in a bear market? idk what the criteria may be.....seems we might be getting close but likely not quite there yet. C'est la guere! N'est pas? See what next week may bring.....

Thanks everyone! It has been a longtime coming. Had I not made the profit I did on my home, I would have been in debt forever due to my student loans......larger balance than my mortgage. It is still all a little surreal because I NEVER believed I had a chance to every be debt free.
Life it still very crazy.....still trying to settle in from my move (boxes to the ceiling!!), had to be off a week for work waiting for Covid results (negative...test took 5 days to return), and now my mom passed away on Wed. Hopefully, I will have some time to process all of this and get some goals set soon.
Thanks for cheering me on and celebrating! Teachermom

It was even worse than I expected, I earned a grand total of 1100 euros in January. So I had to take 1K out of my savings, which is now down to 14,500 euros.
I'm downgrading my goal to 16,500 euros. I'm well aware that I may not even make that lesser goal.
Although it bugs me to use savings, it's not the end of the world, because I plan to retire at the end of 2022. I also plan to keep working, but significantly less.
What DOES bug me is that I was hoping to save a bit extra so that I could give up another class in fall semester. Clearly, that won't be possible. Oh well.

INCOME TAXES:I'm not sure what happened. I think my estimate on income taxes this year was wildly wrong. I still have documents that are arriving in the mail, but it looks to me that what I thought what I'd have to pay in is actually what is going to be refunded. And I sent in a whopping check earlier this month for the Q4 2021 estimated tax. When I was doing some shredding a week or two ago, I shredded my quick paper-and-pencil calculations. It was my first year as a retired person. I had one final paycheck early in the year, and it was large because I got a hefty payout for unused time off (so had a lot of income tax withheld). I decided to sit with that and see where the dust settled. I goofed up. Not in a devastating way. Just in a crazy kind of "where was my brain?" kind of way.

SAVERS:We are approaching the end of the month. If you recall, at the end of the 2021 Savers thread I'd asked for some volunteers to step up and take over the smilies and the shoutouts for 2022. If I missed the post in which you volunteered to do one or the other, or both , please repost here. Thank you! forwardwego and I have done the smilies and shoutouts for the past few years now, and we are ready to turn it over to other Savers.

Finally sitting down to post my 2022 Savings Goals. 2022 Goals: Emergency Fund to $3,000 -- I am sure this is about to take a little dip because I have medical bills coming in. DS1's Savings to $2800, DS2's Savings to $1600 -- We give them $100 each from our tax refund each year. Part of their birthday money and their piggy banks also gets deposited. Christmas Fund to $1,000 by October-- Doing this last year was a game changer! I was able to cashflow all Christmas purchases with no anxieties. Cushion Fund to $1000-- Starting this one for the first time. A cash fund on hand for when the paycheck just isn't quite enough, or a small unforeseen expense arises. 2022 Savings | START | CURRENT | GOAL | STILL NEED | Emergency Fund | 2,100.00 | 2,100.00 | 3,000.00 | 900.00 | Christmas Fund | 1.00 | 109.69 | 1,000.00 | 890.31 | Cushion Fund | 207.00 | 207.00 | 1,000.00 | 793.00 | DS1's Savings | 2,500.00 | 2,500.00 | 2,800.00 | 300.00 | DS2's Savings | 1,250.00 | 1,250.00 | 1,600.00 | 350.00 | TOTALS | 6,058.00 | 6,166.69 | 9,400.00 | 3,233.31 |

I'm joining this year a bit late. My first check of the year is always slim since we have a week of leave without pay between Christmas & New Year's Day. There are also changes in deductions as well due to the start of the new year that I usually don't know what the new net amount will be until Jan 25th. Well, it's going to take longer. We are getting extra pay as a means of retention since, like many other places, we don't have enough staff, staff are leaving, & there is difficulty hiring more. It is retroactive to the beginning of the school year that will show up next check. This is an issue I don't mind having! My goals remain the same and I will adjust the saved amount depending on each check.
Thank you for the shoutouts, they are so encouraging!

I'm in again as this thread definitely motivates me to save more than I would on my own. Bumping up my goal from $30,000 past my $35,000 stretch goal, to $40,000 of which $5k will fund property tax at yearend. I don't want to just coast at $30,000; I want to push us to save just a bit more since DH got a raise partway thru last year. I will likely spin off some of the savings into an IRA but still count it because it's additional saving that I wasn't doing before.
Azucena $0 of $40,000 (0%) as of 1/1/2022
I set up $340/bimonthly into a post-tax IRA and will increase it when I get a raise in March. Work moved our 401k to Fidelity, so I now have the option to put in up to $10,000 post-tax thru payroll deduction. Fortuitous timing! Need $4,481 to hit the illusive $100,000 in liquid savings. This is currently split $65k in plain old savings account, $11k in a CD earning 2%, and $20k in I Bonds. Will likely shift another $20k to I Bonds so it can earn a little more. And yes, that's a lot of dough to leave liquid but it's the right choice for us given DH's past health issues. Our only debt is $225k mortage at 2.5% with 2035 payoff which we will not prepay. We're also on track for our age 60 retirement goal.
Looks like I skipped over Jan update, so here's our balance after first Feb paycheck. Azucena $5,045 of $40,000 (13%) as of 2/4/2022

Seems like we still need to find smilie grantors to replace our benevolent leaders. Maybe we could take monthly turns? I'm willing to take a shift, and June would work best for me. I took the liberty of starting signups below that can be quoted and edited.

Please excuse the incorrect “too”. I don’t have time to fix it. 🤦🏻♀️
