I'm still plodding along trying to keep up with everything. DD is planning on coming over Saturday for another day of work around my place. We may work on getting my chicken coop put together.

Today I empty suitcases and go through a stack of mail.
I am very proud of myself. I spent about $35 on stuff I brought back. It was all from the cabin my 6th great grandfather built. I never planned on resisting there.

A brush fire started about a mile from my house. The breeze blew it in the opposite direction and a number of houses have been lost. I worked closely with someone who had to evacuate. I don't know if he will go home to a house or to rubble.
This has made me want to do more decluttering today. I don't know why. If there were a fire, it would all be gone anyway.

I'm sorry seriousthistime . I'm sure that's very stressful. This week- postpone colonoscopy/Wed- pharmacy/Thurs- postpone anaesthetist appt/Thurs- fill in availability for next semester/Thurs- do pre-admission online/ThursI got my Job 1 classes for Fall semester. I'm giving up 36 hours compared to last fall, so I'll be going in 3 days/week (like this semester). I'm working all day this Saturday. PS Later today my boss asked if I'd like more hours ... I said no thank you!!! I won't take on more hours, but I'm flexible, so maybe I could give up something else. She'll get back to me.

These situations always hit me strangely and I would do things like housecleaning. Until this past year, I never worried about any of the places where I lived in Boulder were in the path of a wildfire. Yet 3 of them have been evacuated since December and houses near them destroyed. I'm glad to be out of there but still worry about my friends and the people who live there.

Finally finished my random quilt! I’d started it last July and worked on it steadily for the past 10 months. Still working on the pictures but I’ll share when I have them up.
Busy in the garden and I need to get my pool set up this weekend because it has been too dang hot.

I lost the rent check from my BIL. I remember the night I brought it home I was looking for it and could not find it, but then I found it and it was wet. I don't know where I put it to have it dry out before I "deposited it " from my phone.
I have to do some serious decluttering/organizing this weekend.
I have a long weekend planned next weekend. I have 5 days to use between now and June 30th. A week from Monday is my FIL's 80th Birthday, so I have to organize a family birthday party. I am waiting for the weekend to contact DH's family. I really don't want to talk to some of them but I will suck it up and do it for my FIL.

startsmart, congrats on the quilt! bean29, enjoy those days off. Happy Friday, everyone! I took yesterday off, so I'm reporting now about the housekeeper. Bottom line: She did a fantastic job! I'm fairly certain she may have even removed sink faucets to clean under them?? She didn't get as far as planned, but it's understandable considering how nasty our soaker tub was. Regarding money, I think the fact it was her first time and how "icky" things were, she underbid, so I gave her an extra $50. I also put her preferred cleaner and rags in my shopping cart to buy next week. She comes back in two Wednesdays to continue. Oh, and my day off? I spent part of the day working out, then performed an at home spa day which consisted of a facial using gifted to me samples including masque creme, fingernail trim and pedicure. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone.

hi all, quick check-in. sounds like y'all have been pretty busy! I was supposed to be heading inland for a backyard concert/50th birthday party tomorrow, with the pups bunking with my friend M for the weekend after I meet her tonight. pups are still going, but I'm 99% sure I'm not going inland. it seems the charity weekend in FL turned into a small super-spreader event, with probably half the folks in attendance (including tomorrow's singer) coming up positive between last Sunday and as most recently as yesterday. I had a number of close contacts, and as nobody else besides the singer and myself were at the event, I'm opting to not be Typhoid Mary here. how I haven't come up + is astounding to me, but I'll take it! instead, tomorrow I'll start out as I planned - dousing my stone walkway with chemicals to kill the weeds coming up. pups aren't coming back til Sunday, this is plenty of time to not make them sick. I'll pull the weeds once they all dry out. I also plan to pull the dead stuff out of the hanger baskets off the deck, and replant with new. I think I remember the bug repellent plants being lavender and some fresh herbs. any recommendations? tonight when I get back from dinner, I'm going to gather some items I want to put out on the "FREE!" table tomorrow. this weekend is going to be hot and sunny all through, so that table is going to be getting restocked as I unearth things/there's space on it. I'm sure someone has a need for a DVD player, right? oh, and the best news I've heard all week - my new dishwasher will be delivered on Tuesday. woo! so I will also be decluttering a busted one from my side entry path when they remove that one. I'm hoping mooch will be able to install the new one Tuesday night. I've waved an offer of Taco Tuesday dinner that night if he and M come up.

Sorry, I liked this b/c your new dishwasher is in, not b/c of the Covid-19 exposure. Maybe you are immune? My DD has never gotten covid-19 but has been exposed numerous times. She is vaccinated and boosted though. I ordered some landscaping vinegar from Amazon for my paver patio. I did not try it b/c I received it late in the year, but I will unbox it soon and try it out. I have done the chemicals in the past but this is supposed to work well and be safer.

On my dad's side of the family, if you go back 6 generations, Phillip Hoggatt is my grandfather. At some point the name was changed to Hockett. My great grandfather's first name is Hockett. Quakers that came from England and Scotland to escape religious persectution. One of the meeting houses where I went still meets the old way--men one Sunday and women on a different Sunday. The best thing about having Quaker ancestors is that they kept records of all their meetings. They list everything they talked about plus births, deaths and marriages.

Yesterday I ran a bunch of errands so today it’s an extra work day. I have a big meeting on Monday so I need time to prepare for that. How am I preparing? Posting the pics of my quilt and drinking coffee. I do need to clean a bunch but that’s lower priority right now - my to do list is going to be a bunch of stuff to do next week! Pics of quilt are here: imgur.com/gallery/15plKA9

I brought 22 books to the library to donate to the Friends group. I packed them up two weeks ago, ruthlessly. I did not stop to review the collection today. Tomorrow I'll bring a collection of plastic bags to the grocery store for recycling. That will be the first chore started in the garage decluttering project. I decided to keep the plastic bags instead of recycling them at the store. As I was stuffing them into one another to take to the grocery store, I was confronted with a box in which I'd been putting things for donation. I decided to keep the bags to put items in for pickup by the BuyNothing group folks. I managed to use a bunch of the bags to get rid of 12 items from the donation box and a quick decluttering of one of my vanities. I wish I could say my place looks better, but a small decluttering in the garage and behind vanity doors does not improve the overall look of the place. I know it's still stuff out the door and that's the goal, but it's not the visible boost I get from an orderly house. I guess, in a way, I did "recycle" those plastic bags. And also, in a way, I accomplished a chore in the garage decluttering project.

I agree. startsmart - I have been meaning to ask - do you sell any of your quilts? If so, would you PM me the store?

That quilt is stunning startsmart ! You are so talented! Home from a long day at Job 2. Am upset with myself for signing up for so many days interviewing prospective students. But they're short-handed so I can't back out now. I got my schedule for the last set of interviews in late June/early July. Six days instead of the usual 7. I am thrilled!!! I also told my boss at Job 1 that I wasn't interested in those extra classes. I wasn't planning to be at school that day, and it would be two more programs to deal with. It was hard for me to send that email, but I did it! I'll catch up on laundry, but I'm not leaving the house tomorrow.

I spent some time in my basement cleaning. I really did not count how many items went in garbage or in the donation bag. I am sure there were at least 30 so I added 30 to my total.
Donation bag was dropped off.

OMG!!! My boss (also my best friend at Job 1, she only became my boss last September) told me "Before you emailed me, I had only 4 Thursdays to find a replacement for, and I assumed you'd do it. After you emailed me, I found out that in fact I have 7 Thursdays to find a replacement for. And I'm sure there'll be more." FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE I DODGED A BULLET!!! ! PS To be clear S was NOT pressuring me, she was saying that I made the right decision.

startsmart perhaps you might consider considering it, since visibly there's a market for your quilts even on just this thread?! Just sayin' lol. I understand that you want to keep all the ones you've done. But perhaps you would consider doing new ones to sell? This is the second time that this has come up. And personally, I'd love one too! My friend A LOVES to sew ... by hand or by machine. She even has an embroidery machine. She barely charged at the beginning, because it was her hobby and she was happy to just have a reason to sew (her words not mine). Now she finally charges! She offers "mates' rates" for good friends but now her hobby is a good second source of income for her, which is as it should be!

I have been able to finish getting the front yard cleaned up and looking lovely. All I need to do to mark it finished is seal the cedar window boxes and porch posts like I do each spring. My window boxes are planted and look great! The porch furniture is clean, weeds have been pulled/sprayed, and I've got some flowers potted and put out as well. I always try and get the front yard done first when we are swamped with baseball- because it's what people see when they drive by. I started on the backyard today, but a pop up storm with hail and a crazy downpour halted that real quick.

I am still finding stuff the cats put in places where they don't belong from while I was gone. Payback for my absence of 17 days.
DN3 is busy this time of year and I know that, as he coaches a high school soccer team. In order to leave for practice or matches 5 days a week, he works on Saturday. So the cats were mostly alone. He did stop by every day, but the longest he was here was 4 minutes. That means the cats didn't get much attention, if any. I admit I was surprised, he had taken care of the cat box, but he had. I can't feed and water the cats and sift the cat box in 4 minutes, but I have help from the cats.

Decluttering the refrigerator of leftovers. I'll call it "lunch".
I need to go through a box in the kitchen of foods and kitchen tools, to consolidate it get it out of there. B uses a walker to get around and I'm afraid it's sometimes in his way.
Sort of crazy, the last boxes we packed and what we wound up with taking. I haven't yet found several things, like Franklin the Dog supplies, but instead found half-full boxes of sandwich bags and foil. Why they didn't get pitched, I couldn't say.
I defnitely need to open a box of my clothes and dig out summer wear. This week will be riding into the 80's and probably 90's. I am somewhat concerned that our new home has no central AC. I've had central air my entire adult life. I do hope that the location, on the water in New Englad, will moderate the real heat, and we have plans to install an attic fan, too. This summer will be a test of how bad it really gets.

Yesterday didn't even happen, not sure how today will fare but I really need to get some stuff done. Since the visitor/cleaner/visitor week occured, have been keeping the common areas in good order, want to do a little bit to keep that going. Been keeping the counters/sink cleared and mostly wiped down every night, would like to a good wipe down today, but all dishes done last night and counters clear so that will be quick, but need to vacuum and dust again, but not sure if I can today. Must get out there with the mower for the front yard at least. So to try to do a list for today: Yardwork kitchen spruce up vacuum/dust 1st floor wash sheets/change bedding extended bath time Will see how far I get.
