Trying to decide if I have enough clothing out of boxes to make it until we move into our new home, which will (probably) be the end of June. If not I need to unpack a box or two, and I'm reluctant to do that. It will just add to the piles in our room. I'm inclined to go with what I have out already. I do need to bring some order to what we have out.
The advanced purging we did over the past year and half culminated into a frenzy of expelling everything from the house we sold. We did throw out some stuff of use and even of value, but not too much, I think. A key advantage is that we have much less Stuff to move.
We do need to buy a bed, actually, two beds: one for the guest room and I'm looking at adjustable beds for DH and me. Because he often needs to put up his feet to rest, and his head a bit to avoid snoring, I think this is a great solution. I do a lot of writing in bed, too. Plans are being made.

Good morning! My list for today has 11 chores/paperwork tasks on it + five homework assignments. I plan on setting a timer and rotating between sitting tasks and movement tasks.

All the old stuff in my house is definitely talking. The crockpot from 2008, one handle was cracked and when I pulled it out of the bag this morning it broke completely off. I don't think it can be fixed.

finnime and Knee Deep in Water Chloe it must be exciting to have a fresh start! I've been in this house since 1985 ... there's not much clutter except in the basement. (I think!) I'm at school 3 days this week (including Saturday), plus 1 day WFH. Plus 3 doc appointments, so another busy week. Job 2 has cancelled interviewers at the last minute. I said if they need to cancel someone on Sat, they can cancel me. But it's unlikely. Job 2 Summer Term starts back up this week. So happy I gave up the second set of evening classes! Two more weeks in this busy "chunk", then things should slow down for a while.

I have the new house fever and want to move out of our condo but unfortunately everything that is for sale in our immediate area is between 1 million and 2 million. Most of these houses dont even have 3 bedrooms, so I am just dreaming . So we will just have to find someone to fix everything that needs to be fixed in our condo and deal with it.

A house for sale in the city near where I live caught my eye. I could afford it.
However, it was built in 1952 and appears only the kitchen appliances have been updated. It's one level with a basement. However, the two killers: Laundry and shower in basement, so decision is a hard no.

The laundry would be easy enough to bring into the kitchen (that's what we have) but I don't know about the shower. But I agree, it doesn't sound promising.

Nothing has been changed since 1952 from the appearances. Listing says vintage. Doesn't appear to be room in the kitchen for the laundry.
This house would need lots of updating. I am already going to update my shower. I don't need to move to a house that needs more updating than only a shower.
Appears to be an estate sale.
The house is empty except for a piano in the living room. My guess is that stays.

DD's family is sick so I ended up not doing anything with them today. I left Mom's fairly early so I would have some time to spend with them this afternoon but DD begged off and I was fine with that. I wasted a lot of the afternoon but did manage to get most of the back yard mowed. What I can do with the riding lawn mower is done, what needs to be done with the push mower still needs to be done. Plus the front yard will also need to be done.
I've also been doing laundry. Not sure if I mentioned it but about a month ago my cat was diagnosed with thyroid issues again. As part of the treatment they changed her food. I was warned to switch it over slowly because it could upset her stomach. I spent almost 3 weeks slowly changing the mixture on the food to get her transitioned. Last Thursday I made the complete switch to the new food. Saturday I was woke up about 3:30am with a barfing cat. She was sick multiple times over the weekend while I was gone. I'm now washing the bedspread, again, and some blankets etc that she got sick on.

Next this week:Monday: * House Cleaning Scheduled -- Need to reschedule as I had my days confused. Skipped last month due to plumbing problems. *Termite Inspection and Scheduling Retreatment (needed since pipe repair)Tuesday: *Class -- 10 am Wednesday: *Class -- 9am Thursday: * Class -- 10am -- 2 pm (3 classes) Friday: Added: AC Maintainence Inspection and annual contract renewal *No formal committments but maintaining order and working on projects around the house. Maybe a trip to the mall if I didn't get there last week. *Pack car for craft show Saturday: *Craft Show -- 7am -- 1 pm *Unpack car Any free time: *Work on several ongoing craft projects. Currently have three two in various stages of completion. I did work on both of these as well last week.Besides the ac checkup scheduled I also made an appointment for my car to be serviced later this month. I do need to get in touch with the person scheduling the house cleaning to get back on the schedule. Couldn't have service last month due to the water issues and plumbing issues and hoped that she remembered that I was ok for May but I think that she forgot to put me back on . I will give her a call later this evening. House is basically in order. Just a few items to be put back in place now that the termite inspection has been completed. Will need to read and make comments later.

startsmart , that is quite the list. Well done! saveinla , housing prices are crazy around here, too. We are expecting the bottom to drop out at any time... Hope everyone had a relaxing Mother's Day. It was a productive weekend! Did a bit of this and that my day off Friday, including a load of laundry and cardio. Saturday was our annual public land cleanup day and then went to a friend's. Yesterday I tackled a few things on my "get them done before the housecleaner comes" list: 4 loads laundry, including the master bath mats Unloaded and partially loaded the dishwasher Watered plants Swept the master bathroom floor Scrubbed in and AROUND the master toilet Sprayed a spot on the living room rug Refilled ice trays, the Keurig, napkin holder, coffee jar, and fridge water Emptied two garbage cans Added things to the grocery list Planned suppers for the week Reviewed my social calendar through August and checked in with several friends for such Talked to Mom, texted numerous friends and my sister to wish them Happy Mother's Day ETA: The household items above resulted in 2,500 steps.

We finally got moved. And thank God, because we've been nomads living out of suitcases in AirBnB's the past five weeks. It was fun at first... The housing market in the Dallas area is crazy, so we ended up renting. We moved from a 3000 sq. ft. house on 5 acres in Seattle, to a house about half the size on a tiny lot in a suburban neighborhood. I thought I got rid of enough stuff before we moved. I didn't. The two teens and DH have way too much stuff. I'm sure they think the same thing about me, lol. I will spend the next year doing more decluttering/organizing and looking for a home or lot to buy. Renting will give us time to slow down and look and decide if we like the area. First short term goal is to get the kitchen unpacked and organized this week. Hope everyone is doing well, gotta catch up on reading the thread.

Hello again! I am slowly working this week because it is hot and the humidity is not helping. I broke down and turned on my window AC unit which will probably run from May to Sept. The yard continues to look better and better, I am mowing down the weeds and my compost bin is so helpful for debris.
I shop at a weekly local online auction and always find a few good deals. This week I got another solid wood quilt rack so now I have one for each of the upstairs bedrooms. Sometimes I find a good plant stand or the glass insulators I use on my fence posts but I am getting more picky on items and price.
The next nice weather weekend we get is going to be my time to massively clean out the garage. I have enough storage solutions in there but things are everywhere. There's no electricity and thus no lights so during the winter I often just drop things since I can't balance whatever I'm moving plus flashlights. Now that the days are longer I can get in and really clean things up.
The auction place also does consignment so I'm going to ask next week what I need to do to send them my "extras" so I can make some money back - ha! Sometimes when I bid on an item it comes with junk I don't want so that's either going to consignment or donation.

I've had 3 medical appointments since yesterday. Glad to be done! I still need to make an ophthalmologist appt (I need new glasses) but I'm taking a break. Laundry caught up. Cleaner comes tomorrow. WFH tomorrow but only in the morning.

I hope the cleaners can add you back onto their schedule moneysquirrel ! I got reschesuled for next Monday. I can handle the small stuff but it is nice to have someone come in for the heavy chores. I don't see as well as I once did and suspect that the cataract surgery will be coming sooner than I would like to admit.

startsmart -- Definitely watch the heat. We are expecting temps in the 90s this week and my AC has been coming on occasionally. I have it set at 76 so it only comes on a few times and with the ceiling fans on and the better windows that I invested in years ago makes that setting comfortable for me. If I have the oven on (rarely in the summer but early morning if needed) then I may lower the setting a bit but not for an extended period. Iggy aka IG -- You are getting a lot done especially on the weekends. Finish with my class this morning and getting a few things done but not a lot. Will prepare a quick lunch and then see what progress I can make on one of my projects. I try to work on both a few minutes each day. Slow progress is better than a standstill. Coming in a few weeks I will have at least six new projects -- 4 from the classes and 2 other kits that I will order. May also order a few other patterns depending on my craft budget. The craft show this weekend will aid and abet my purchases. I am continuing updating my Etsy shop but I don't rely on it for any sales just a way to have some of my items on line. Don't get me wrong I would love to make a sale or two but with the economy the way it is and the market that I am in being so saturated that I have to be realistic about the process. Time to sign off and get some food into me.

Just got to what I hope is the last hotel for this trip. A very long day. 10 hours on the road thanks to sitting on an interstate somewhere in Ohio not moving for 45 minutes.
I'm tired and I want to get home to my babies.

Oh no TheOtherMe , 10 hours!!! You poor thing! At this point we won't do more than 5 or 6h of driving per day, and there's two of us! I hope you are feeling better. I'm sure you and your babies will be very happy to see each other! This week- pharmacy/Wed - call to change colonoscopy if possible/Wed I'm also starting a new class on Thursday. I have to get my head around that.

Today is projected to be about 5 1/2 hours. Constructions will slow me down. It's that time of year, but I will get home by mid afternoon.

The housecleaner arrived on time this morning! The first thing she did was remove her shoes while still outside and put on "booties." She confirmed what cleaning products we don't like (Pine Sol and Simple Green). She said she would focus on just the upstairs this time, and downstairs in a few weeks. I was a bit surprised when she asked me where I keep my rags...? Apparently, she ran out and hasn't been able to restock them.
Question for y'all: Do I tip her this first time around (there are some problem areas such as the soaker tub)? Every time? Just at the holidays?

Iggy aka IG I tip one "clean" in the summer, and one "clean" at Christmas, but not every time she comes. But maybe it's different there?

Thank you, debthaven and saveinla. I skimmed a few related articles, and they seem to concur: Tip only if the cleaning is infrequent, if you know their wage relies on gratuity, and because the owner sets their own rates, they don't expect a tip. Is the Christmas tip a full "cleaning session" amount, or just a percentage?

I do a full session or 1.5, but given that I was paying almost a whole year for my cleaner during Covid without having her come in - last year I only tipped one month extra.

K, the housekeeper called indicating the (old, clean) black t-shirts I gave her to use as rags are leaving black fuzzy streaks. She asked if I come home for lunch, which I do not. She said she usually buys the cheap washcloths or white square cloths from the automotive section at WM. I then directed her to old white washcloths in the guest bathroom to use until I can buy her ideal cloths after work. She also indicated she was still in the master bathroom addressing the soaker tub. I told her I knew it was gnarly... Baby steps.

I brought 22 books to the library to donate to the Friends group. I packed them up two weeks ago, ruthlessly. I did not stop to review the collection today.
Tomorrow I'll bring a collection of plastic bags to the grocery store for recycling. That will be the first chore started in the garage decluttering project.
