Santa, bring ammo’: GOP congressman and family pose with guns for Christmas photo days after school shootingRepublican congressman Thomas Massie has sparked outrage for posting a Christmas photo of his family posing with a trove of firearms, just days after four students were murdered in America’s deadliest school shooting since 2018. The Kentucky congressman shared the family portrait on Twitter on Saturday, along with the caption: “Merry Christmas! ps. Santa, please bring ammo.” Mr Massie is seen posing with his wife and members of their family in front of a Christmas tree in a holiday card-style image. Article here: ‘Santa, bring ammo’: GOP congressman and family pose with guns for Christmas photo days after school shooting I know I'm on a different continent.... and have a different Nationality But I will just never understand this. I'm on the same continent as this family (and many others like them) and I don't understand it either.

Going back to the original topic: I saw reports on Twitter of tons of social media threats to schools across the country following the Oxford shooting, prompting districts to close or go remote. I'm nowhere near Oxford, but there were about a half dozen districts just in my region of NY on Thursday/Friday that had independent threats affecting schools, including both the districts immediately to the east and west of our school district. I'm on the other side of Michigan from Oxford. An adjacent district to mine had a credible enough threat they have the FBI involved and we're closed at least Friday and Monday. 2 other adjacent districts to mine were closed yesterday, and my 6th grader said a lot of his classmates stayed home yesterday. I'm so sick of these fucking guns and these dumbass douchebags that worship them.

You'd think that'd have a chilling effect on kids trying this stunt to get schools to close. Nope, there's been 3 more days of social media threats to the small city HS west of me. They'd announced the HS would go remote for the rest of the week. Then the news was flooded with parents afraid for their children in the other schools in the district, so a few hours later they made it district-wide. And yet there a big loud crowd who were desperate to get their kids back in school full time just months ago! Because, childcare, I mean, the kids NEED in-your-face education, yeah, that's it, safety be damned!

They may have wanted the kids out of the house, and maybe eschew the responsibility of monitoring their schooling - but childcare only applies to younger kids. I don't think it is hypocritical or contradictory to want your kids to get back to in person high school after Covid lockdowns, but worry about their safety and want to protect them if an unrelated violent threat arises. I would gladly take both of those stances proudly, and would not understand why anyone would think one disproves the other.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The threats were for the HS. The district made the HS go remote. But all the ES and MS parents suddenly wanted their kids out remote, too, because they feared for their safety. It's a city, albeit small, so the individual schools are scattered around, none near the HS. So if threats are only against the HS (most likely by HS students who are more likely on social media than the younger ones, and because they figured out a new way to close schools), the other kids really aren't at risk. I'm assuming that's why the district originally closed only the HS - many parents would be scrambling to deal with younger children suddenly at home, without any direct reason. HS kids ARE old enough to stay home alone. But let's all freak out about safety on this issue, while ignoring the health safety issue of rising Covid cases locally with hospitals at 100% capacity. The news said last night our region is 9th nationwide in rising numbers, and it's only accelerating. We hit all-time daily highs this week, despite having vaccines now vs when NY was the epicenter at the beginning. Nope, nope, nope, it's all: unmask our kids, reopen everything, let's get back to normal, no more restrictions, masks don't work, you can't make me get a vaccine, 99% are just fine...

[ Every time I see this picture, all I see is death - and not in the usual "death as entertainment" way - but in the death as in loved ones are grieving and in pain that will never truly go away. That juxtaposed with a Christmas - just adds to the pile of "proof" that the Christian god loves human suffering and wants more human suffering and that the god is indeed evil. I'm pretty sure we've seen celebratory pictures of armed civilians with a religious symbol or a religious theme to them -- in third world countries. How is this picture American I'm with Opti- I don't think they are proof of anything regarding the Christian God himself. I'm always confused about how these so-called Christians get such a different message out of the bible that they claim to base everything on, vs the message I read in the bible (and Catholics are always accused of NOT reading the bible). But I think something just clicked in my brain, probably prompted by dj's Supplyside Jesus post. It's precisely what's been bugging me about the whole Black Friday/gift buying media storm, the incessant holiday season decorating push, the hand-wringing over the supply chain issues (buy your stuff early!), all of it. So much waste, so much trash, so much buy-buy-buy. The Republican Christianity reads the prosperity gospel, and has turned everything on its head - it's the Capitalism/Consumerism version of Christianity, with Supplyside Jesus at the center. It would probably fry their brains if they re-read the gospels about Jesus's birth and it actually registered that they were a POOR family. And that the gift giving was from wealthy individuals to a POOR child. And that the family had to migrate to a foreign country to escape danger. None of that fits the Republican agenda...

Boebert looks like she is made of plastic and her house/tree looks like it is decorated by someone who wants to be thought of as classy, but doesn't know what that really means.

Total tangent: I think it is funny that the kids of a Representative from Colorado are wearing Packers and Raiders logo clothing.

having kids in school relieves parents of truancy issues. particularly if they are irresponsible parents, this is insanely attractive to them. they can behave like kids themselves, without any fear of repercussions.

And we are STILL dealing with social media threats to local schools, and guns.
Got a robocall from our superintendent about threats deemed not credible. Nearby districts have been arresting teens making the threats last week. Kid had a loaded gun in his backpack today at one of the big city schools (one my brother taught at)...

Schools all over the nation are on high alert from the tiktok threat. Many have sent out notes and requested police patrol and are opening under 'soft lockdown'.
The last tiktok challenge had kids/teens running up to house doors and attempting to kick them in and then running away. Talk about a death wish.

Today is the day all of those tik tok threats of shootings will happen. Just coincidence - my son's school had their last finals yesterday. So, it would be a pretty dumb day to shoot up his school.

Michigan School Shooter Tortured Animals, Kept ‘Baby Bird’s Head in a Jar’ While Parents Focused on ‘Extramarital Affairs’: Prosecutors
Prosecutors say that the parents of accused school shooter Ethan Crumbley knew that their son was troubled but did nothing to stop him from allegedly murdering his fellow students. The allegations are part of a brief filed by Oakland County prosecutors on Thursday to oppose a bond request from James Crumbley and Jennifer Crumbley, the 15-year-old’s parents. Both parents are charged with involuntary manslaughter in a late November school shooting that left four dead and seven others injured. James and Jennifer Crumbley are currently being held on $500,000 bond. Prosecutors opposed the request by painting a picture of a disturbed child who was largely overlooked by his parents. “When defendants left Oxford High School at approximately 10:55 a.m., on November 30, 2021, over an hour before the shooting, they knew that their son was depressed, that he was fascinated with guns, that they had purchased a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun for him just days before, that he had been researching ammunition while at school, and that he was seen watching violent video of shootings that morning,” prosecutors say in the brief filed Thursday. “Before they left the school that day, they had also seen the disturbing drawings attached to this response as Exhibits One and Two.” Those drawings allegedly depict the thoughts of a troubled mind. “The thoughts won’t stop” is written under a drawing of a handgun on a mathematics test review sheet dated Nov. 30, 2021, the day of the shooting. “Help me,” the document also says. The words “Blood everywhere” are also one the paper, along with a hand-drawn image of a person appearing to have been shot. Prosecutors say that a staff member photographed Ethan’s review sheet before he scribbled out portions of his artwork, including the words “help me,” “my life is useless,” and the drawing of the handgun. Therefore, prosecutors filed two images which they say portray the same piece of paper — before and after Ethan is said to have altered it.
