Obama was a like a four alarm fire in a pesticide factory. he drew attention to the toxic nature of our fundamental rift just by being himself. I remember one 'Windy City' poster who complained that Obama was not promoting his white side. More like Wind Bag. And he hasn't been on here extolling the virtue of his President Trumpster in quite some time.

don't tempt fate. I am sure that his feelings have not changed one iota, and that he welcomes the 5th Reich of the Trump/DeSantis Private Gold Star Space Reserve Patriot Unit.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Trump was the reincarnation of Marshall Applewhite, the cult leader of Heaven's Gate. Trump has already lost his balls.

starting this thread as an alternative to the trolling exercise run by VB. suggest all posters abandon that thread for this one, but it is up to you.
I am very worried about the US. the economy is on fire, UE has fallen to prepandemic levels, and yet the Trumpistas continue to gin up the hatred for anyone left of Atilla the Hun, including Biden.
I don't hold out a lot of hope for the US at this point. it is no longer a fact based country. I don't honestly know how you will fix that. even if the 65+ Trump crowd dies off, there are a bunch of young people that are just as stupid and delusional, and have a lot more energy for violent action like last January.
so, convince me I am wrong, everyone. please.

that last bit of bullshit on the other thread about how Carter and Biden compare in terms of "public opinion" of the economy is proof of just how doomed we are if we can't figure out how to generate enough TRUTH to overcome the lies.
I am not saying that people don't THINK that. but 75% of Republican people think that Trump won the election. so, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, it is not that our conservative friends are ignorant, it is just that they know so much stuff that isn't true.

this is a very small excerpt, about birtherism:
Jake Tapper
I have no delusions that I can stop a lie. [CHUCKLES] But, I mean, I just wanted anybody watching who heard this to know that it was wrong. It was just false. He didn't end it. He perpetuated it. He made the birther lie bigger than it had ever been
this is an illustration of the problem. it is not what is right. that is EASY to figure out. the followers simply don't care. if the central message is "right" (America can do no wrong, Trump is a patriot, and "liberals" are the root of all evil) then whatever else the messenger has to say is ALSO "right".
you listen to these interviews- and they are just embarrassing. but the people saying this stuff are so full of conviction. there is no self doubt. and there should be.
does truth REALLY win out in the end? and will it even matter if we are all dead from disease, famine, or nuclear war?
"sure, it's fake, but I wouldn't doubt it".
what has this country come to? seriously?

This is such a sucky reality! ain't it? Yes! I mean, what happens if this country truly falls into a civil war? Are hundreds of millions of Americans going to become refugees fleeing to any other country that will let us in? I could probably go to Canada or Mexico pretty easily now, but not if everyone is rushing the boarder to try to get there as well. Are we going to end up like Syria? I just can't believe its even getting as close as it is to this situation in my lifetime. Trump destroyed our country!

I think its important to not put too much emphasis on post analysis of what pundits think the reasons are. The truth is Trump used data analytics to his advantage to win in 2016. Had Hillary courted Wisconsin and a couple other states, even the shady things done by Trump's data analytics team would not have been enough. The only people who really truly know why people voted for Trump are the people that kept tweaking the data analytics machine until they got the numbers they wanted. They targeted, changed their messaging and even called voters directly in their homes to get insight on how to flip them. Obama's data analytics team is the biggest reason he triumphed over Hillary. And from what I read, they really treaded the line of doing the right thing. In other words they fell over that line several times. Trump's team actively targeted people not to vote, which is unAmerican and anti-voting and all sorts of stuff. IMO it should be a jailable offense. However, they were extremely successful targeting voters in Wisconsin and other battle grounds by convincing voters it simply was it worth showing up. And it paid off in spades. In spite of how much the deck was stacked against Hillary, she still got more all over votes than Trump. As did Biden. We need to look for success instead of listening to all those who wants us to think die hard Trump fans are the majority. They are not.

Lot of these "reasons" are true for other countries. There was a global wave of reactionism, and it played out visibly in England, Germany and other countries.
Nearly half (48%) of white working-class Americans say, “things have changed so much that I often feel like a stranger in my own country.”
Nearly seven in ten (68%) white working-class Americans believe the American way of life needs to be protected from foreign influence. In contrast, fewer than half (44%) of white college-educated Americans express this view.
Nearly seven in ten (68%) white working-class Americans—along with a majority (55%) of the public overall—believe the U.S. is in danger of losing its culture and identity.
Stuff like this was probably true and enabled the rise of Hitler. The key is to fight it IMO, not to concede ground to the minority. Sure it was shocking to me to learn so many people were emotional thinkers and acted on feelings more than facts. This was always true. It just wasn't exposed to some of us until the rise of Trump.

From the article OP referenced in post 2- Nearly two-thirds (65%) of white working-class Americans believe American culture and way of life has deteriorated since the 1950s.This is opinion based mostly on no experience and crap they believe and were told. In 2016, roughly only 21% of the population was even alive in the 1950s. Some of those would have been from the Boom and weren't adults. It is easy to have a romantic view of the past when you were not an adult. www.census.gov/data/tables/2016/demo/age-and-sex/2016-age-sex-composition.htmlI used table 1 from that link adding up all the percentages from the age 60 up. Its an estimate. I feel Someone would have to had been born in 1957 or earlier to actually have any real memory of life in the 50s. (Most people do not remember much prior to age three.)

Part of the problem is the good conservatives stayed quiet or hid in their bunkers. Few like Mitt Romney seemed to hold onto real principles. What I discovered during the pandemic and even more so because of one certain co-worker, is people who think like Trump are actually not people you can reason with. They can be extremely driven by their fears and anxiety. Sometimes you can manage them, but I personally have learned how hard it is ... even when they know its in their best interest. I have yet to learn the levers to stop the panic and get them into at least a neutral emotional state. Some seek out people who agree with them because that's how they manage their anxiety in RL. I found it amazing and scary how many people one person needed to talk to when under the latest angst. It was a village practically and sometimes more than one round. (Exhausting!) But after getting their emotional angst spread over legions of people, they find peace quicker than those of us who play it closer to the vest. Think of all the time we have spent on the board talking to SCP. How much good has it done? A good talking to is not what's needed. I am not sure what is, but I am working on it. And yes people who are emotional thinkers tend to operate on very basic emotions you'd think only toddlers to High schoolers cling to.

Why do died in the wool socialist democrats on this forum think Republicans are the problem and will never change their way of thinking? Many of you will never OPEN your mind to a conservative idea or if elected to a political position would ever cross the political divide ito compromise on an issue. Your way or the highway. Sound familiar?

I would never have posted an analysis I think is partisan. the ENTIRE reason I posted this is because it makes sense.
I can explain why, if you like.
