I believe his campaign group, especially Kellyanne Conway, was smarter then Hillary's group in getting the best bang for the buck in EC votes. In retrospect she missed opportunities to visit and campaign hard. Misjudged trumps nasty, name calling entertainer like ability to attract people. So we paid the price for 4 years and I hope enough people learned their lesson. Yeah I think some of it also was ‘I don’t want another Clinton” and ‘Let’s mix this up and not elect another life long politician - let’s see what Trump can do!’ Well, now we know clowns can sometimes be fun and entertaining but can also sometimes be terrifying and can burn the tent down.

Kinzinger (sic?) just called the Trumpers a cult, in reference to the "closed media environment" that conservatives live in, now.

That's EXACTLY what my BIL said before the 2016 election, almost word for word. He said we should give a businessman a shot. But, I pointed out to him back then that Trump already had a number of failed businesses, so I didn't think he'd be "the guy" that would succeed in politics.

The problem is that there is one goal in business - to make more money. Every single decision gets solved by answering the question of if it is profitable or not. Yes, there are hard decisions and many things are debatable on if they are profitable. But the question is always the same.
Government is extremely complex - way more so than business.

Government is extremely complex - way more so than business. there is another problem: corporations are top-down authoritarian in structure. upper management only listens to the BOD and themselves. that is NOT how democracy works. ideally, government should pretty much do the OPPOSITE of businesses. they should raise taxes when times are good, and cut taxes when times are bad. doing one of these doesn't cut it. which is why we have huge deficits.

I think its time to rehash how democracy works and remind us that our government is created for the people by the people.
The will of the people is debated in congress. The executive branch requires a different skill.

The executive branch requires a different skill. The first thing you would have to do is overturn Citizens United. The good news is that now that SCOTUS can overturn rulings and precedent doesn't matter - it can get overturned much easier. After all, I don't see the rights of corporations in the constitution.

Regardless of how the government is "supposed" to work democratically, it certainly has to work collaboratively. Relationships, favors, gladhanding, tit for tat, discussion, yes even friendships are some of the most effective tools a politician has. While these are also useful for a successful businessman, the primacy of their effect in politics is just not the same in business, and it is understandable that many business oriented people do not have the same skillset. Ironically, as a hustler, Trump has some of these skills, and was arguably more successful than some respects because he could at least strong arm and bully his party members, quite effectively. Unfortunately he was completely incapable of governing, which is a common republican failing these days. If you run completely against government, you may not be good at it!

exactly.
i think it started with THIS quote:
"government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem"
if government is the problem, then what is the solution? anarchism? fascism? Trump?

No shit, Shakespeare. Ex-GOP senator says the party has become a 'cult,' believes Trump has 'poisoned our democracy': bookFormer Republican Sen. Alan Simpson blasted the current iteration of the GOP as a "cult" and said former President Donald Trump has "poisoned our democracy," according to a recently-released book by Mark Leibovich, a staff writer at The Atlantic. In the book, "Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump's Washington and the Price of Submission," the 90-year-old ex-Wyoming lawmaker was deeply critical of what he deemed "the tragedy of what has occurred" during the tenure of "this vicious animal who has poisoned our democracy." Simpson — who served in the Senate from 1979 to 1997 – said he voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election but declined to do so in 2020, and contended that he would not back the former commander-in-chief again should he run in 2024. And he criticized the state of the party over its Trump-driven identity, fueled by the "Make America Great Again" movement that powered the former president's 2016 victory. "We're not really talking about common sense or even politics anymore in my party," Simpson said in the book. He continued: "This is not a Republican Party anymore. It's a cult." The former senator is close to former Vice President Dick Cheney — who represented the state in the House as its at-large congressman from 1979 to 1989 before becoming the defense secretary under President George H.W. Bush — and has spoken with the prominent GOP figure about what he feels is the deterioration of the party. Complete article here: Ex-GOP senator says the party has become a 'cult,' believes Trump has 'poisoned our democracy': book

I think if Trump runs...or is reinstalled, this guy would make an excellent VP. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell promised this week that at least a billion people would watch his upcoming summit on election fraud. Lindell first announced last month that he would hold "The Moment of Truth Summit" on Aug. 20-21 in Springfield, Missouri. "Why wouldn't Fox and Newsmax let you talk about government cameras catching people committing felonies?" he asked. "It's the murder of our country, everybody! This is it! There is no tomorrow!" "I'm telling you right now," he continued. "We have the most important event this country has ever seen, a turning point in history, an apex in history. Everything we've done for a year and a half!" Lindell promised the efforts to overturn the election would "cumulate on two days in August." "And it's going to be seen by a billion people!" he exclaimed.

Ever since Election Day this jackass has announced one ‘revelation’ after another. He even invited experts to review his ‘data.’ Google ‘the boy who called wolf’ and his frantic face pops up. He’s got nothing.

Lindell has a worse reputation than the Boy Who Cried Wolf, at this juncture. but i guess some people just LOVE disappointment. or maybe this is just a test of faith for cult members.

I have been under the impression that Donald Trump is just about the dumbest person in the country. Mike Lindell is making me rethink that.

Trump is ignorant and content to be so, but he isn't the dumbest person around. Many of his followers who still call him the greatest President ever qualify as dumber than he is.

i could go down point by point, but just to take Afghanistan......
Trump wanted to withdraw more quickly than Biden. explain to me how he would not have left any equipment behind given that fact.
i am patient.
