i actually think Trump is aware of this.  i think he reads books about it.  i think he knows how to be an effective cult leader.  i don't think it is just an accident.

but maybe it is.   maybe he is just uniquely gifted in this way.  the way Jim Jones was.

i think this is a really perilous moment for the US.

edit: what worries me the most is that many Americans not only don't see the danger, but seem to be actively encouraging it- either through their ignorance or because they WANT the danger- the possibility of a right wing nationalist authoritarian government.

2020 was a very important but small step away from the precipice.  after 2022, the danger may be even greater of plunging over it.  i would suggest that Americans take the threat seriously.  many failed democracies didn't, and paid the price for that.

I'd say that forcing women to have babies isn't going to make formula supplies any better or affordable.

And learning about formula companies women's rights and the accesses to formula are joined.

It's also a socioeconomic issue that crosses racial lines.

It's all intersected and anyone who thinks Republicans are actually interested in.fixing it are crazy or invested in the idea that if we just push everyone back into the home and shadows the economy will magically be fixed.

Outside of holding rifles touting Christianity and how they'll take care of illegals I haven't seen one single ad or interview that talks about actual policy for addressing these issues from.Repuicans.

Justice Dept. Requests Transcripts From Jan. 6 Committee

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has asked the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack for transcripts of interviews it is conducting, which have included discussions with associates of former President Donald J. Trump, according to people with knowledge of the situation.

The move, coming as Attorney General Merrick B. Garland appears to be ramping up the pace of his painstaking investigation into the Capitol riot, is the clearest sign yet of a wide-ranging inquiry at the Justice Department.

The House committee has interviewed more than 1,000 people so far, and the transcripts could be used as evidence in potential criminal cases, to pursue new leads or as a baseline text for new interviews conducted by federal law enforcement officials.

Aides to Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi and the chairman of the committee, have yet to reach a final agreement with the Justice Department on what will be turned over, according to a person with knowledge of the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the confidential nature of the investigations.

On April 20, Kenneth A. Polite Jr., the assistant attorney general for the criminal division, and Matthew M. Graves, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, wrote to Timothy J. Heaphy, the lead investigator for the House panel, advising him that some committee interviews “may contain information relevant to a criminal investigation we are conducting.”

Mr. Polite and Mr. Graves did not indicate the number of transcripts they were requesting or whether any interviews were of particular interest. In their letter, they made a broad request, asking that the panel “provide to us transcripts of these interviews, and of any additional interviews you conduct in the future.”

Spokesmen for the Justice Department and the House committee declined to comment.

The Justice Department’s investigation has been operating on a separate track from the committee’s work. Generally, investigators working on the two inquiries have not been sharing information, except for at times communicating to ensure that a witness is not scheduled to appear before different investigators at the same time, according to a person with knowledge of the inquiries.

Thus far, the Justice Department’s investigation has focused more on lower-level activists who stormed the Capitol than on the planners of the attack. But in recent weeks, Mr. Garland has bolstered the core team tasked with handling the most sensitive and politically combustible elements of the inquiry.

Several months ago, the department quietly detailed a veteran federal prosecutor from Maryland, Thomas Windom, to the department’s headquarters. He is overseeing the politically fraught question of whether a case can be made related to other efforts to overturn the election, aside from the storming of the Capitol. That task could move the investigation closer to Mr. Trump and his inner circle.

If you are a woman of child bearing age and pro-choice, the time to act and vote on it is now. I hate gas prices, sympathize on the formula shortage but the latter are short term issues. Not having choice when you need it can be a 18+ yr burden or your death if it's the wrong kind of pregnancy or pregnancy failure. Its not like the GOP is going to fix gas prices or inflation in any meaningful way. In fact I expect they will continue to push social policies like restricting abortion and what kind of immigration should be allowed. 

I've yet to read on how any GOPer plans to fix gas prices.

Third term medical abortions should still exist. After all, criminals or accidents don't stop simply because a woman is in her third trimester.
If mom is shoved, beaten, kicked or shot in such a way that the fetus dies but her body is unable to deliver a stillborn, there should be the option to save the mother's life.

So, you think a women who has a fetus with anencephaly, a nonsurvivable abnormality should be forced to carry that fetus to term instead of being allowed to have a third trimester abortion. Because almost all third trimester abortions are for these sort of horrible situations.

Nope, no long memories in politics.

Remember how many GOP congressmen claimed to be appalled immediately after J6? Remember what McCartney and McConnell said?

Now everyone is referring to that event as a tourist visit and the insurgents are patriots. Trump is referring to himself as the MAGA king, and the forgetful low information voters have bought it hook, line and sinker.

By November the formula problem will be forgotten, but don’t worry, something else will have happened that the far right instigators will be able to use to whip their low information voters into a frenzy.

The problems at that plant go back to 2019.  Biden took office in January 2021.  Imho this has more to do with corporations having unlimited say in politics.  End Citizens United and things in the US will vastly improve.

I am aware of that. Unfortunately it looks like the "dying breed" parody was at least half a century too early. Heck, we have been seeing the revival of this so-called dying breed since the Grifting Loser entered the lime light. Before that this behavior was as acceptable to many as farting at tne dinner table, done but in secret - not to be bragged about .
Now they are calling themselves "conservatives" fighting for a society that never was fair and, if they have their way, will never even come close to being fair or just simply becoming fairer.

I also know Caroll O'Connor was very liberal and he wanted to show the ridiculousness of this behavior.
