Knee Deep in Water Chloe I was happy to see what seems like a shorter list LOL This week and next week will be hell ... E finished her PhD thesis yesterday! We started proofreading it together this morning. It's 220 pages. I will have a record number of hours again this semester, which was SO NOT my intention!!! But E's thesis is due in early October so hey. I'm working with her on Zoom about 10h this week and 10 h next week, on top of everything else. If I'd realized she wanted me to proofread the entire thesis, I would NOT have accepted some of the Staff hours I accepted. Too late now. (E should have said, and I should have asked.) This week- DH's Quickbooks - lines (ongoing) QB isn't going to happen this week but I'm keeping it on my list as a reminder. I AM (very slowly) learning my lines. PS DD signed the contract for her new job today, so it's really happening. She starts early Nov.

Nice work, everyone! Over the weekend I caught up on laundry since we were gone the prior weekend. 7 loads. I consider going up and down the stairs my cardio. In addition: ~Emptied, refilled, and started the dishwasher. ~Last week I used the remaining makeup foundation in two bottles and tossed them. ~I cleaned our vanity and both sinks. ~Scrubbed two toilets. ~Cleaned DH's washroom sink. ~Put the freshly laundered sheets back onto the bed. ~Made an awesome chicken, asparagus, cherry tomato with Italian dressing baby spinach salad. Topped it with freshly shaved parm and bacon bits. ~Made overnight oats for DH, juiced about half dozen limes to freeze for winter use, and processed fresh produce for the week. ~Restocked camper with paper supplies (I love pulling from our stockpile), clean towels, and new baking soda boxes in the fridge and freezer. ~Meal planned for this week. ~Saw a movie in the actual theater, read, continued a social media campaign, and watched some DVRd programs. ~Planned my social calendar for the next two months.

I love pulling from our stockpileMe too Iggy aka IG ! I call it "free shopping" LOL. Since I was WFH today I ran/emptied the dishwasher, caught up on laundry, put the "summer" items away (ie bug spray and water spray), watered the plants and filled up the olive oil bottle. (We order olive oil in 5 liter cans from my Greek friend.)

This how I often feel, too, and is the reason I like to give general ideas of what I did. I also freely admit that there are days when I do nothing more than the things I absolutely have to do.

For the list, it is getting shorter regarding "beginning of year set-up", and for that I am grateful!
For "lines", are you doing another play? Did I miss that?

We're not judging!!!You're absolutely correct. You all have been very nice. I haven't felt judged, of faulted by anyone (but me). And I appreciate that. Truly, I do. I really hoped that I'd find my motivation in and amongst you all. Sadly, instead, it feels even further away. My comment was not, in any way, an attempt to get attention, or a "poor me." I'd rather not have that kind of attention. I'll stop by occasionally, to see how you all are doing. In the meantime, be well and take care of you. ♡

Quite a few people posted on the first few pages and then we must have all "slacked away" as it died. That was much more my speed as well since the ladies on this decluttering thread seem very motivated and industrious. I still read here and get inspiration, lots of good ideas, but I don't post. Ahem, my basement is still full and hasn't been organized as I was hoping to all these years later so...

I tend to do what laterbloomer does, but I do chat here. I feel like we are friends. I would not have made anything close to the progress I have this year if I had not hired an organizer. With her I am able to make decisions. She puts me to work in another room after we have gone over what I want to happen where she is working. She then holds stuff up at the door and asks stay or go. I give her an answer. When she leaves she takes all the donations and recycling with her. I just have to get rid of the trash. I could not do this alone.

I have now officially rented a storage unit in the area I'm hoping to move to. This weekend I will take over the first load so that my house will look bigger/less cluttered and move HGTV, lol. I haven't found a place yet. There have a been a couple of nice houses that are very similar to what I live in now and that is probably what I should buy. I look at the pictures and think boring, dull, yuck, not interested.

toomuchreality I REALLY hope you change your mind and decide to stick around!!! I used to be a whirlwind ... at nearly 62, DEFINITELY not so much. I'm really struggling these days. And my basement is still a mess too! We are here to share our progress (whatever that may be!) and to chat (since this thread moves slowly compared to other threads). I know I chat too much LOL. Knee Deep in Water Chloe yes I'm in a play again. It was supposed to happen in May 2020 but it was cancelled because of Covid. I wanted to drop out because it's more than I can handle now but since it's an American play, I'm with my North American theater "besties". DH said, you know it'll really hurt to see them on stage without you, knowing that you should have been there. For better or worse, I decided DH was right, so I agreed to the new date (mid Nov). I absolutely LOATHE leaving for rehearsals. But when I'm there, I have a blast!!! Sharon that sounds like a great first step! I hope the right house turns up soon!

Despite all the talk of productivity today my only accomplishment was waiting for my neighbor to come over so we could investigate the noise upstairs which I was convinced was a feral cat and ended up being a poorly latched door swinging open in the wind.
Oh and I got my hair done before my trip! It’s darker and much shorter but I love it so far!

Oh and I got my hair done before my trip! It’s darker and much shorter but I love it so far! Ugh. I hate investigating strange noises. I'm glad you had someone with you and that you were able to figure out what made the noise. Back in the 80s, a day or 2 before Christmas, I was in our basement working on a bike, we were going to give my daughter. My husband at the time, was on the main floor. DD was sleeping in her bedroom. It was a very small house. When I went upstairs, DH and I heard a loud noise come from the basement. He was going to investigate. I talked him out of it and called the police instead. We never did find out what caused the noise. Note: I am not very brave when it comes to the unknown.

Three boxes of yard-sale items left my garage last week. I am much too lazy to try to sell any of the stuff I am decluttering and prefer just to donate the good stuff and send the rest out with the trash. There are sometimes items that look suitable for a yard sale, so I put those aside as the neighbors who have been so helpful to me have been talking about having a yard sale for ages. They've finally settled on a date and I handed the boxes over to their youngest who is eager to find ways to earn some spending money. Whatever he can get for them he can keep and I get them out of my house. And somebody gets what is probably the ugliest teapot in captivity (I am confident that someone will buy it). Everybody wins.
Speaking of my helpful neighbors, earlier this month they were able to solve a big problem that had been hindering my basement decluttering project. I had a roll-up security door installed over the sliding glass door that opens from the basement to my patio. The back of my house is not visible from any of the neighbors' houses and faces a big field with woods and a highway beyond, so I have always viewed it as the most vulnerable access point in my house. It's been on the house for about 30 years. Early in August, the door broke while I was closing it and had been stuck in the "down" position ever since, so I could not use that door to move items in or out of the basement. I called every business within about a 50-mile radius that sold or repaired security doors like the one that broke, and not one of them would have anything to do with repairing it because it was on a residence rather than a business. My neighbors were able to remove the security door altogether, so at least I can use the door now, and I found a company that makes heavy-duty security screen doors designed for residential sliding glass doors, so now I just have to find someone who sells it and someone to install it.
It's so encouraging to read about others' progress. I'm finding that the more space I make in the basement, the more motivated I am to continue the project. Then I can move some things out of the rest of the house down into the basement where they can be put to useful purpose and make decluttering the rest of the house even easier.
This week, I hope to load the boxes of books for donation to the library into my car and maybe actually take them to the library and put them in the donation bin.
I've been hoping my credit union would have another shredding event for members. They used to have one every year right after tax season. They contracted with Iron Mountain to collect the material and shred it. We could take 5 boxes each, and we could watch them empty the boxes into their locked containers. They haven't offered that service recently (probably due to COVID), so I will have to begin a shredding project. I'm going to confine it to the basement, though, because it makes a mess, and now that I have space in the basement, it will be easier to clean up. I need to be in the right mood, though, to run the shredder.

The reason my neighbor helped was that he found 2 black snakes yesterday when mowing and I was sure something alive was making the noises upstairs. Thankfully it was just a poorly installed door.
Today I completed my reading goal for the year! I have a long list of books to read next week on vacation as I’m hoping to be outside enjoying the sun most of the trip.
I did go patch the holes in my closet walls (half at least) from where I took out the horrid shelves. Next is washing the walls and painting them. When I’m near IKEA next time I’m doing a stop in search for the closet system I want to buy.

I set it really low because my professional development goals are large. I was pleasantly surprised to see Goodreads tell me that I did that!
Black snakes that are not Gardner snakes? Where have you moved to!!!

Here’s what I think is a reasonable list for today. However…I accomplished very little yesterday, so I’m not optimistic. (Stickers are covering up student names)

Chloe - the black snakes are common in this corner of Kansas, they're not venomous or dangerous and do eat a bunch of mice and rats. However. I still don't want them in my house! Since my second floor has an access door to the roof and stairs outside I always worry that someone or something has gotten inside while I'm at the store or sleeping and is going to come downstairs. I think that will get better as I continue to replace the windows and am able to move my bedroom upstairs. Right now it's a building site and storage room.

Project/Appointment/Misc List: Updates in Red* Monthly service -- house -- Monday * Medical Tests *2 -- Tuesday* Insurance Adjustor Meeting -- Thursday * Donation Pickup -- Scheduled for Friday (Not sure if they will be picking up or not. May need to be rescheduled again.) * Craft Show -- Saturday and following Saturday as well. * Unfinished beading projects = 5 2* Unfinished craft projects = 2 1* Call Roofer (after meeting with adjustor) * Call Siding/Patio company (After meeting with adjustor) * Prepare for class I teach (beginning classes week of 27th) * Call local school @ November craft show (is it happening??) -- Called and left message with person who answered, my info will be passed on to someone who might know something.
Also:Laundry and dishes are caught up. Made a small grocery run yesterday since I was out anyway. Also finished my Halloween wreath. That was the one craft project I did finish. Won't put it out until October but I am glad that I got it done. Total cost @ $6 thanks to Dollar Tree. Currently no wreath as I had to take my other one down before Ida and with only a week of so left I decided that the door could be plain for a few more days. All of the debris from the neighbor's tree that came down during Ida has been removed from my front lawn as well as from at least five of my neighbors. Major part of the tree is still on the ground in their yard. It was a large tree and all of this debris was from one major limb. Trash can is filled with small twigs and leaves. Hope they take the two bags that are not in the can but not sure if they will. Currently only items in cans are being picked up. If not, I will try to get those two bags into the can for the next pickup if I can lift them. Saw yesterday that a lot of businesses are still closed. Not sure if it is due to damage to the building, lack of personnel, or other reasons. Seemed strange to see McD and other places like that without cars. startsmart and TheOtherMe -- Wishing both of you great and relaxing trips. anciana and toomuchreality -- please stick around. For most of us making these lists are for our own benefits to keep ourselves on task. They are not meant to make anyone anxious. Need to get my day started. Will check in when I can.

Great profess Dannylion and Moneysquirrel!
Chloe it’s 186pp without notes and bibliography. We’re short on time so E doesn’t want me to reread those. It’s taken us 3h to proof 41/186 pages. We’re doing more tomorrow, Friday, and maybe Saturday.

anciana and toomuchreality -- please stick around. For most of us making these lists are for our own benefits to keep ourselves on task. They are not meant to make anyone anxious. Need to get my day started. Will check in when I can. I took the day off yesterday. I mostly played online and got some reading done, but did make the bed, unload, refill and start the dishwasher, refilled ice trays, and wiped down the counters and stovetop. The latter is a PITA because the burner grates must be removed, and they, too, get all greasy, etc. Very cumbersome. Autumn has finally arrived here, so I made a nice bowl of clam chowder. And of course had to float a small handful of goldfish crackers on top. After the above KP (kitchen patrol), I called my BFF in CA and we spoke for a few hours.

I got out of bed. 😶 LOL I'm thinking this thread may not be the best fit for me. But you all are awesome and I wish you all the best! Getting out of bed is good! Reading about everyone's progress is usually motivating for me, but sometimes I look at everything others have accomplished and feel like I'll never get anything done. Then I remember I'm not other people and I'm doing the best I can and whatever I manage to get done is something that wasn't done before and something that doesn't have to be done later, and then sometimes I just take a nap, which is good, too. Just do what you can until you start to see that you've made progress. That was the point where my motivation started to increase. Your motivation trigger might turn out to be something else, though, so just do what you can until you find it.

And, full disclosure: In between my weekend chores, I do a lot of playing Words with Friends, skimming FB and here, and reading short magazine articles. I ain't as young as I used to be, and taking breaks with my feet up helps.

Thank you all for the encouragement, I will continue to visit this thread. I am also thankful for the inspiration you have provided over the years. I might have not posted about it, but I have used some of your ideas in my life from time to time. I guess it's not fair that I haven't said much about it but I don't post as much as it is. Maybe I should. From what I've read, you are a wonderful and supportive group!

I hope you decide to post more often Anciana!
And if we’re going into confession mode, I NEED to do NOTHING for 24h once a week. Preferably in pjs or sweats lol. (My kids are grown so I can get away with it.)
