Favorite Drink: Sometimes I drink water... just to surprise my liver!

I didn't feel well this morning, so didn't go babysit my granddaughters today. It's the first time I've ever "called in sick". I was going to go later, but DD2 said there was no need. I will go again Friday, as usual. I've been super lazy, all day, because of it. So I need to get up and do some laundry, dishes garbage out clean bathroom and hopefully, change sheets. But that's more than I expect to get done, because I will need to come back and check on here etc. (I have priorities! 😉)

debthaven - I have not yet ordered a washer or dryer. I am pushing myself to finish the laundry room before I install the machines. I do have the two pantries installed as well as the shelves by the backdoor. I need to re-install the drywall that needed to come out and finish up the floor then I can get my own machines.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe with you working so much AND going to school, might it be time for your cleaner to come more often? DH has pointed out two different deep clean chores that I should have done recently. While he says it nicely, I don't understand what he wants me to do: I'd have to not get my work done to get get deep cleaning done. But, cash is tight right now, and adding another $55 per month (which is two hours of cleaning) is not my favorite idea. It is feasible though, and I might do so in October.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe if your DH has the time to notice and point it out, maybe he can help? It's not like you're slacking off, between your job and school ... Personally I'd get the cleaner to do those 2 extra hours/month. This week (updated)- donation run (DH)/Thurs- bottle bank (DH)/Thurs- DH's Quickbooks - learn lines (ongoing)

I would do either what azucena or debthaven suggest. Listen to them not me. I'm not married and do everything the cleaner doesn't do.

Chloe - like TheO said, I'm not married either and I do all the cleaning myself but there's a rule I like that whoever is more bothered by a task is responsible for doing it. If you identify the problem, be part of the solution.
Nearly done with the fabric that I needed to iron, cut and organize and now I'm looking at the fabric that I was sent in trade.

I'm married, and what has helped DH and I for two decades is, generally speaking, he is "responsible" for outside chores and inside home repairs, and I am "responsible" for the inside cleaning and organizing, food and supply inventory, and the like. It works, as I hate being hot, have grass and pollen allergies, etc. Granted, years ago while watching and playing along with the new Newlywed Game, one of his responses was he wished I'd clean more often. Well, I do what I do when I have time and feel like it. We stopped watching that program shortly after.

Exactly how does that get pointed out "nicely"? If it bugs him the "nice" thing for him to say is that he will be doing those deep cleaning jobs this weekend.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe I'm worried that you may feel like we're "ganging up" on you. I think I speak for everyone on this thread when I say we all think that you're Superwoman incarnate, and that both you AND your DH need to go easier on you. If it costs an additional $55/mo for some of those "deep cleaning" tasks to get done, then so be it! Hugs friend.

Two (three?) years ago our cleaner was overwhelmed, and working very long days, 6 days a week. That September she announced that she was raising her rates by 30%, assuming most people wouldn't pay that, so she could drastically reduce her workload. DH said, let's let her go, we can do without her. I said really?! Because YOU will suddenly start scrubbing toilets and washing floors?! Because I won't. I don't think so. We agreed to reduce her from 4h/week to 3h/week, which sort of compensated for her increased rate. (There's no such thing as an every-other-week or monthly cleaner here.) Only ONE family let her go. They called her the following week and begged her to come back. She refused, because she wanted to reduce to 5 days/week and work shorter days. (She eventually took them back because of attrition. She had several elderly clients and some eventually died.) Knee Deep in Water Chloe , I'm not going to ask you what you earn per hour. I know you're better paid than me, an adjunct. But even as an adjunct, I'm better paid than my cleaner, even at that higher rate. And I'm sure your DH is significantly better paid than you. Our cleaner makes my life better. I thank my lucky stars for her every day. Her being here keeps me on an even keel. With ALL you do, you CERTAINLY deserve that, EVEN if it costs an extra $55/month.

During Covid, I paid my cleaner not to come because I wanted her to be able to stay in business.
She ended up being able to hire more cleaners last winter and took on new clients. Now enough people quit, that it's one team, but she has too many clients. She told me last time I saw her (during that one month when I thought it was safe to be with her without a mask) that she has had to drop many of the new clients because she can't keep up the work but she will keep her pre-Covid clients. If she does drop any, it will not be the ones who paid her not to clean their homes.
I wish I could afford twice a month, but I can't. She definitely makes my life easier as has the organizer. I could never have gotten rid of so much stuff I don't remember having without her. The job looked too big and overwhelming. With someone who I hire to lead the way, I can give it my all for 3 hours. This is definitely improving my life.

We did the same during the first Covid lockdown, we paid her even though she didn't come for 3 months.

My cleaner hasn't been vaccinated because Covid isn't real, so I am back to going to the car and wiping things down when she leaves.
I must say now that things have homes, it's much easier to pick up stuff to get ready for her to come. She is due to clean tomorrow. All that's left is stuff I can't do until morning.

Have been reading but not doing much posting. I had a doctor's appointment this week and spent the rest of the time at home. Next week is scheduled to be a little busier. Project/Appointment/Misc List:* Monthly service -- house -- Monday * Medical Tests *2 -- Tuesday * Insurance Adjustor Meeting -- Thursday * Donation Pickup -- Scheduled for Friday (Not sure if they will be picking up or not. May need to be rescheduled again.) * Craft Show -- Saturday and following Saturday as well. * Unfinished beading projects = 5 * Unfinished craft projects = 2 * Call Roofer (after meeting with adjustor) * Call Siding/Patio company (After meeting with adjustor) * Prepare for class I teach (beginning classes week of 27th) * Call local school @ November craft show (is it happening??) More when I can! take care all! TheOtherMe -- Not sure when you are leaving but have a great trip. (in spite of the passenger) debthaven -- Glad that you are getting more of the non-grading classes Knee Deep in Water Chloe -- Pace yourself. Hire the cleaner! startsmart -- As usual you are getting a lot done. My advice is that the laundry room should be done asap. Winter is coming and it would be better to not have to travel to do your washing/drying in bad weather. Sure I forgot several comments I wanted to make but that's how is is going thee days.

TheOtherMe -- Not sure when you are leaving but have a great trip. (in spite of the passenger) . We leave a week from tomorrow, assuming I don't have Covid on the test. Would you believe no contact again since the Covid tests were scheduled. At least I only have the passenger one way. I also haven't heard from DN3. He's the cat sitter, so I will text him tomorrow. I am sorry about the damage to your home, but I am happy you were not physically injured. I know there is a lot of emotional stress. Please take care of yourself.

Today I decided to finish up the projects in my master bath, for now, including installing some very fiddly shelves and a bidet (TP shortage PTSD lol). I still need to clean up the counter top and towels a bit but otherwise I’m done until I can tackle the new floor and painting the cabinet.
The fabric is almost all cut, I just have the larger pieces that won’t all get cut and a few small pieces that need to be custom cut. In addition to all this fabric I’ve cut out over 1,000 paper pieces by hand. I won’t be taking any fabric with me on vacation so I should be ready for it when I get home again.

Each quilt I’ve done is between 980-2,000 pieces so lots of fabric, always I’ll be going to Mexico for a speaking event and then staying a few extra days for vacation

The handyman came by today and the first part of converting the closet in the front bedroom is finished: shelves and supports are installed. Now, I just need to paint everything and then he's going to come back to anchor the shelves to the supports.
I'm that much closer to getting the stacks of books off the floor in the front room--they've been there since July 2020--and unpacking my DVDs and CDs--in boxes since Sept 2019.

Must go through clothing today. Disabled American Veterans pick up donations on Tuesday a.m. They take anything useable, so we have boxes ready full of books to go. I'll add in all the clothes I can reasonably part with and some kitchen/household stuff if I can get to it.
A lot of what I've purged recently has been picked up by neighbors. A couple of them have even offered thanks for whatever I had out--once it was a pile of yard and garden tools and supplies, and another time it was a floor lamp, slightly wonky.

This week my focus will be on getting ready for my trip, not on decluttering. Then I won't be here for 3 weeks to do any decluttering.
It actually will be a nice break for trying to figure out what to tackle next.
