We also heard that Pence was the one that called out the Guard or to the capital. It sounds like Pelosi called trump and he delayed. Just heard, no verification. We also just heard that his twitter account has been suspended for 24 hours. Should be to the 20th. I hope that Twitter bans him PERMANENTLY

Trump issued a call to arms. Then he urged his followers ‘to remember this day forever!’Before the rally of thousands of President Trump’s supporters on Wednesday, some aides worried that if Trump spoke at the event not far from the Capitol, it could stoke the crowd and create a volatile scene, a senior administration official said. But Trump, the official said, was determined to do it. “We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn’t happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved,” Trump told the crowd to whoops and loud cheers, falsely claiming that President-elect Joe Biden’s victory was based on fraudulent vote counts. “We won this election, and we won it by a landslide. This was not a close election.” He said Republicans had to keep fighting and urged a crowd of aggrieved supporters to mount an insurrection against constitutional order on Wednesday, encouraging what quickly became a mob assault on the U.S. Capitol carried out in his name. The fabrications were familiar, but this time, Trump’s angry rant amounted to a call to arms. In a long and violent day that the president urged his followers to remember “forever,” he was typical Trump. He exhorted his followers, he spoke falsehoods, he took to Twitter, he attacked the media, and he confronted the Constitution of the United States. It was as if four years of the Trump presidency were squeezed into one day. In the twilight of his presidency, Trump was where he always yearns to be — in the middle of the vortex, at the center of attention in a broken nation. Later Wednesday, Trump appeared to sympathize with the mob and to explain away the violence as the natural consequence of his election loss to Biden. He also edged close to celebrating the day’s events. “These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long,” he tweeted. “Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!” Twitter said later Wednesday it had locked Trump’s account for violating its rules. The sight of rioters, some armed, trying to overturn an election marked an unprecedented but not entirely unexpected reaping of what Trump has sown. Complete article here: Trump issued a call to arms. Then he urged his followers ‘to remember this day forever!’

Rudy should be too for his ‘call to arms’ BS. I mean frog marched tonight right out of the White House!

DD is watching the vote right now. Apparently, Georgia withdrew their "complaint", so the count is continuing...

So I have been listening to all these "special reports" and one commentator after the other keeps expressing shock at what happened and how this is "not American, not us" and I can't help but being reminded of those murder shows on ID tv. Every episode in a smaller community bas at least a few people mentioning how shocked they are that this crime happened in their community.
It is human nature to think that we are better and we and those we know would not do bad things. The problem is that it is not true! Similarly today's events are not coming out of the blue. Trump has been in power for 4 years. After those years 74+MILLION people voted to keep him in power - they liked what they had seen! Over 140 congress wo/men were going to protest the electoral vote due to "voting irregularities" despite zero proof of fraud and at least 60 lawsuits being thrown out of court! Very few, if any of Trump's congressional sycophants tried to stop the. Stop the Steal nonsense yet, because they are in congress, they are referred to as leaders.
So yes, this IS us. And unless we recognize that and refuse to let this go the next time will be worse. A quick lazy "let bygones be bygones" for the sake of today's peace will ensure this will happen again. And this country deserves so much better.

well crap objection on Pennsylvania. Biden now has 244 and trump 157.
They are having Hawley objecting and one from Pennsylvania. Damn I feel for those people, how damn stupid can you get.
They said it might not last 2 hours, I hope not. Some of them look very tired, lot of old people there. What a day they have had.

The going thought is the Senate won't bother with the 2 hours but the House will probably take it to 2 hours. Wisconsin is the next objection. The going thought is Pennsylvania will take 3 to 4 hours to get thru. I suspect Wisconsin will take the same. So, we've got about 6 to 8 hours before Pence must declare Biden/Harris elected. ::sigh::

since only PA and WI may or may not object, Biden has 306-30 = 276. Biden will be elected no matter the result of this.

I know, they got through Pennsylvania pretty quickly.
They were thinking they would adjourn tonight. But no, they said they will stay till its done. I think they want to make sure this step is done and he has the electoral votes there so trump can't try some other swipe at democracy. I agree it needs done. For those people to continue this charade is just crazy. And trump has people embedded to create chaos they already know that. Hope they can get them out quickly.
My question is WHY was there not more protection there for congress? they knew trump was trying to blow this up. Sounds like he had sympathizers there that helped enable this. I never thought I would live to see something like this.
Biden is going to try and be nice, he needs to be hard instead I think.

well, the Capitol is a public building. and most of the folks storming it were white men. just like the folks inside.
and yeah, I meant that precisely as I said it, with all the ugliness implied.

Obama's statement:
My favorite line:
But we’d be kidding ourselves if we treated it as a total surprise.
Also calls out some media.

“I really want to do the show we’re about to do,” Colbert began. “And I also really don’t want to do the show. Because lord have Who could have seen this coming?” Colbert asked. “Everyone! Even dummies like me. This is the most shocking, most tragic, least surprising thing I’ve ever seen. For years now, people have been telling you cowards that if you let the president lie about our democracy over and over and then join him in that lie and say he’s right when you know for a fact that he is not, there will be a terrible price to pay. But you just never thought you’d have to pay it too.” From there, he singled out Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), who was caught on camera “raising your stupid fist to the mob outside the Capitol.” In the first line of the night that could be considered a joke, Colbert said, “It’s like Black Power but the opposite. There really should be a name for that. And obviously he has to keep his fist closed, because if he opened it you’d see all the blood on his hands.” www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/stephen-colbert-delivers-furious-takedown-of-trump-gop-and-fox-news-after-capitol-riot/ar-BB1cxCzQ?ocid=msedgntp

After seeing the videos of members of congress lying on the floor, being shepherded out, having gas masks, my DGD commented that now they all know how every school kid feels every single day when they go off to school (well, not now with mostly virtual classes). She allowed as how maybe they will give serious consideration to how they felt yesterday the next time the question of gun control comes up...you know, like after the next school shooting.

I would hope the top security person has now changed the codes and given them to Pence. I doubt it. That isn't a decision that can just be made and executed. That is a big deal. but we've had plenty of people in charge in America look the other way for trump. He didn't do any of the stuff he's done alone. He's had help from his administration the people he appointed. the only reason trump has any sort of power as president is because people under his command will obey him (for what ever reasons they have). To the best of my knowledge if enough people would say "no" they certainly could have blocked some of this.

Does Josh Hawley have ties to far right groups? Did Missouri elect a White Supremacist to the Senate?

Lin Wood on Parler saying get the firing squad ready, that Pence goes first. If any of us said such a thing we'd already be on the inside looking out through bars.
