Too bad. No pity for her. She's also afraid to be sentenced to a jail in Washington D.C. because she's afraid of contracting the Covid virus. So get vaccinated lady. A Capitol riot suspect is being 'shunned' by people in her small Indiana town and 'chastised' on the street, lawyer saysA Capitol riot suspect has been "shunned" and "chastised" by her community since her arrest in February, her lawyer wrote in a sentencing memorandum seen by Insider. On Tuesday, Dona Bissey, 53, from Bloomfield, Indiana, wrote a letter to the court pleading for leniency and asking for a sentence of 18 months' probation. Bissey faces four charges, including entering and remaining in a restricted building, and violent entry, and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building. In the sentencing memorandum seen by Insider, the federal public defender AJ Kramer said the events of the insurrection had left Bissy feeling "deep regret, fear, shame, and remorse." The lawyer also said that Bissey should not be incarcerated in a Washington, DC, jail due to multiple health issues, adding that she feared she will contract COVID-19. Bissey has not been vaccinated, he said. Complete article here: linkI bet she felt like she was representing "everyone" when she busted into the capital. She has now learned that hanging with six friends who are bad mouthing the same politicians as you is not the same as a real understanding of the entire electorate of the USA. It apparently isn't even a real understanding of the people in her own town.

Can a jail or prison mandate a vaccine? It seems like they could. We are taking away their freedom as a punishment, so where does that stop?

Trump seems to keep digging an even bigger hole for himself. Hopefully. Top Trump Aides Reportedly Preparing to Resist Jan. 6th Subpoenas on Orders of Former PresidentFormer President Donald Trump is reportedly instructing several of his top allies to not comply with subpoenas for Congress’ investigation into the storming of the U.S. Capitol. The Guardian reports that the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack is moving ahead with their subpoenas for former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, and Defense Department aide Kash Patel. The subpoenas order the four to provide documents and private depositions in connection to January 6th. But even though they face criminal prosecution in the event of non-compliance, The Guardian says they are going to resist the orders “because Trump is preparing to direct them to do so.” “Trump and his legal team, led by the ex-Trump campaign lawyer Justin Clark the former deputy White House counsel Patrick Philbin, are moving to instruct the attorneys for the subpoenaed aides to defy the orders,” the report says. “The basis for Trump’s pressing aides to not cooperate is being mounted on grounds of executive privilege, the source said, over claims that sensitive conversations about what he knew in advance of plans to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory should remain secret.” The four aides have been targeted by the investigation due to revelations that they were with Trump on January 6th, strategized with him in the days beforehand, and because of Patel’s involvement with the Capitol’s security arrangements before and after the riot. Trump urging them to defy the subpoenas means the committee will have to refer this matter to the Justice Department, and the ensuing litigations will present a test of the committee’s capacity to enforce their orders. On a separate but related note, CNN reports that the committee has been trying to serve its subpoena to Scavino, but they haven’t been able to because they don’t know where he is. This news comes as the subpoena is nearing its deadline for Scavino to comply with their documents request, which is meant to be followed by his deposition. Article here: link

trump now claiming the real insurrection was the stolen election. Trump Dismisses 1/6 Committee Subpoenas, Pushes Election Big Lie as ‘The Real Insurrection’Former President Donald Trump continued pushing the big lie about the 2020 election, and has now taken to calling it “the real insurrection.” The January 6 select committee has sent out subpoenas to a number of Trump allies in the past few weeks to investigate the events leading up to the riots at the Capitol. In response, Trump put out a statement saying “the real insurrection happened on November 3rd” and that January 6 was “a day of protesting the Fake Election results.” On January 6, Trump attacked then-Vice President Mike Pence moments after he was evacuated. The video Trump put out while the rioting continued repeated the lie about the stolen election. The former president spoke to Just the News’ John Solomon Tuesday and reacted to the subpoenas from the committee. He told Solomon, “The insurrection took place on November 3rd. That was the insurrection: when they rigged the election. The big insurrection, the real insurrection.” Trump has continued to make false statements about the 2020 election for months, talking up Republican-led audits in several states, even in a state he won. Solomon asked Trump if he plans to fight the subpoenas or invoke executive privilege. “I’m mixed,” Trump said, “because we did nothing wrong. So I’m sort of saying, ‘Why are we hiring lawyers to do this?’ I’d like to just have everybody go in and say what you have to say. We did nothing wrong.” Article link: link

Took a really long time for him to come out and tell the terrorists to knock it off. Even after the hysterical phone calls from the GOP congressmen. Reminds me of a nasty kid burning up ant hills with a magnifying glass. I’m sure Trump thinks none of that is wrong.

I still think that the US is in the middle of a very slow moving coup. until Trump and his party accept his defeat, it is still "game on". they are busy trying to rig the 2024 election to make the coup work. if that doesn't work, they will shoot for 2028. and they will continue until either Trump dies (assuming nobody takes his place) or his party moves on.
I think the US is in serious trouble, candidly.

I have no doubt the country could seize back control eventually but how much damage to democracy would be done? I’d rather give Trump and the MAGA heads one of the rectangle states and let them run it into Lord of the Flies territory if they would leave the the rest of us alone.

Yeah, I agree. As far as I am concerned most Republicans know the “Stolen Election” is all a big lie and that Trump Lost, they don’t care, because they are fine with a Theocracy, just so long as it is their kind of Authoritarianism. But the goals of the government and what they believe in are very loosely defined-a lot of people are going yo be disappointed in the end.

Agree as well, the US is in big trouble. When the Republican party becomes the party of: DENY, LIES, AND DIVIDE Looking back, his staff did give insight to Donald Trump. Kellyann early on told he deals with alternative fact. Rex Tillerson told of having to tell him over and over you can't do that, it's illegal. But the Republican party being controlled by Donald Trump is truly astonishing.

But donald; if you have done nothing wrong, the truth shall set you free. Trump to invoke executive privilege in Jan. 6 House probeWASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump intends to assert executive privilege in a congressional investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, a move that could prevent the testimony of onetime aides, according to a letter on behalf of the former president. The letter went to at least some witnesses who were subpoenaed by the House committee and it makes clear that Trump plans to invoke privileges meant to protect presidential communications from being shared with Congress. The substance of the letter from a lawyer for Trump was described Thursday by a person familiar with it who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the letter was not yet public. The substance of the letter from a lawyer for Trump was described Thursday by a person familiar with it who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the letter was not yet public. Spokespeople for Trump did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Trump said in a statement last month that he would “fight the Subpoenas on Executive Privilege and other grounds, for the good of our Country.” The move sets the stage for a likely clash with House Democrats who are investigating the roles of Trump and his allies in the run-up to the riot, when a large mob of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol as Congress was certifying the results of the presidential election won by Democrat Joe Biden. The committee is rapidly issuing subpoenas to individuals who are either connected to Trump or who helped plan the massive rally on the morning of Jan. 6 at which he told his supporters to “fight like hell." So Bannon and three other Trump advisers are refusing to obey subpoenas to show up and testify at the Jan 6th hearings.
I heard this AM that the committee has three choices - take the civil lawsuit route that can take years to go through the courts, send them to a federal pen and charge them 10,000, or lock them up in some old, little jail cell in the Capital building (although that apparently never happens. )
Do we get to vote on this? Because I want the little cell at the capital, and I want them all crammed in it together, and I want them to have to crap in a bucket. For as long as it takes to make them spill the beans.
And let’s put Trump in with them, because that will surely speed things up.

Guantanamo would be nice for them. Also, trump's Executive Priveledge has been tossed out the window according to the Biden White House. Get those documents now.

Very expensive . Fortunately he will have a toilet in his jail cell. Don't know if you read it, but his lawyer claimed he was a non voting Democrat. Social media posts proved that was not the case. And pics of him pushing a cop.

I would never have guessed it would turn out this way in 2016. never. I expected that this two bit charlatan would have been shown up by now. that we would have dismissed him for what he is- a lying shitsack- and gotten back to our passable, somewhat earnest politics.
but this is a 30 year+ poisoning project. an entire generation. and this is the strange fruit it bears. and yeah, I should have seen that. I have been an adult pretty much the entire time, and I missed at least half of it.

Opinion: The most alarming Trump rally yetWhile Donald Trump has held several rallies since the January 6 Capitol insurrection, his rally in Iowa Saturday was the most alarming by far. At Trump's past post-presidency events, you wouldn't find the state's leading GOP officials attending en masse. In fact, at a rally in Georgia last month, Trump railed against the state's Republican leaders for refusing to assist him in illegally overturning the 2020 election. Trump even told the crowd he'd prefer potential Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams as governor over his fellow Republican who's currently in office, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. Saturday's rally in Iowa, though, was different. This one was attended by longtime Iowa US Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Iowa Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Ashley Hinson, and other mainstream Republican officials. Some of these very same people, who just nine months ago were slamming Trump for his role in the Capitol riots, were now only too happy to be seen supporting him. This is politics at its worst -- and at its most dangerous for our democracy. The most hypocritical of the bunch is Sen. Grassley, who on January 6 was escorted by his security detail to a secure location to protect him from the pro-Trump mob that had laid siege on the Capitol. Grassley, who voted to certify the 2020 election, made a veiled reference to Trump in his statement, noting that the lawsuits filed after the election had failed and that "politicians in Washington should not second guess the courts once they have ruled." In February, however, after Trump's impeachment trial for allegedly inciting the January 6 insurrection (allegations which Trump has denied), Grassley was even more direct with his criticism. He said in a statement that "President Trump continued to argue that the election had been stolen even though the courts didn't back up his claims," and "belittled and harassed elected officials across the country to get his way." Grassley added that Trump "encouraged his own, loyal vice president, Mike Pence, to take extraordinary and unconstitutional actions during the Electoral College count." Grassley continued bluntly: "There's no doubt in my mind that President Trump's language was extreme, aggressive, and irresponsible," sharing his view that all involved in the attack -- including Trump -- "must take responsibility for their destructive actions that day."
