Six US Capitol Police officers have been suspended with pay, and 29 others have been placed under investigation, for their actions in the January 6 riot, a department spokesman said Thursday.



"Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has directed that any member of her department whose behavior is not in keeping with the Department's Rules of Conduct will face appropriate discipline," department spokesman John Stolnis told CNN.

CNN reported in January that the USCP had placed at least 10 officers under investigation, and two others had been suspended.

At least seven officers in five other departments across the country have come under internal investigations as their presence in Washington during the assault comes to light through social media or other means.

One officer in New York, one in Philadelphia, two in Seattle, two in Virginia and one in Texas are under investigation by their departments for potential rules violations. Additionally, some departments have been contacted by the FBI as part of their criminal investigation into the overrunning of the Capitol

The Justice Department unsealed an indictment Friday tying together nine alleged associates of the right-wing Oath Keepers in the largest insurrection conspiracy charged to date related to the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.



Prosecutors say the nine defendants from four states allegedly coordinated plans to travel to Washington to breach the Capitol and disrupt the certification of the presidential election. Three defendants were first charged last month, while six new defendants were arrested this week.

Two of the new defendants, siblings Graydon Young and Laura Steele, made their first court appearances earlier this week after they were charged with conspiracy and other crimes related to the attack. According to court documents, Young and Steele applied for membership to the Florida chapter of the Oath Keepers in the days and weeks leading up to the insurrection.

Kelly Meggs and his wife, Connie Meggs, are also charged in the conspiracy. The Justice Department said that they were arrested on Wednesday in Ocala, Florida.

Prosecutors cited messages they claimed Kelly Meggs sent a Facebook friend, which indicated that he was inspired by Trump. In a December 22 message, Meggs allegedly wrote, "Trump said It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! He wants us to make it WILD that's what he's saying. He called us all to the Capitol and wants us to make it wild!!! Sir Yes Sir!!!"

Federal prosecutors said Bennie Parker, 70, and Sandra Parker, 60, "planned their attack in advance and communicated with one another before, during, and after their attack on the Capitol," in coordination with members of the Oath Keepers.

The Parkers were both charged with four federal crimes: conspiracy, destruction of government property, obstruction of an official proceeding, and unlawful entry on restricted grounds.

A Pennsylvania police officer is facing criminal charges after posting a video of himself fighting with other officers during the US Capitol insurrection.



Federal prosecutors said video footage shows Joseph Fischer, 55, running at a police line outside the Capitol and yelling, "Charge!" A patrolman with the North Cornwall Township Police Department, Fisher allegedly yelled "motherf---ers" as he clashed with officers on January 6.

During the scuffle, Fischer allegedly tried to help an officer who fell down, and said, "I am a cop, I am a cop," according to police body camera footage described by prosecutors in court filings.

One day after the attack, Fischer allegedly sent a private message to an associate saying, "I may need a job" because "(w)ord got out that I was at the rally..lol." In the messages, Fischer said he was confronted by his police chief but told him he had "no regrets and give zero sh--s."

"The FBI may arrest me ..lol," Fischer told the associate, according to court documents.

Fischer has been charged with four federal crimes: obstruction of law enforcement, unlawful entry into a restricted building, obstructing Congress and violent conduct in the Capitol.

The suspended with pay part always pisses me off. How about a paid vacation for the guys that didn't aid and abet insurrectionists? First off, if I said I stormed the capital, but did not, and I didn't post any pictures, how far do I have to go to prove I lied on social media, which is not illegal.

No expectation of privacy on social media posts. Privacy expectations. On DMs

If you put it out there and you are saying it’s a lie, you need to testify about it, thereby waiving your 5th amendment right abs admitting to be a liar.

ETA: DMs are obtained via search warrant all the time. FB is very law enforcement friendly.

bottom line: they are admissible, but bear the same standard of proof as ANY confession. and sure, a person can make a false confession, but they have to explain that, if they do, and a jury has to buy it.
