I hope the committee turns him down and say that they don't need him to testify - wouldn't that be great.

Assuming the "why" is to public testimony: Bannon was one of trump's first pardons. Should be an interesting farce of a 'show'. Good in-depth questioning would be the key to it not being farce. The time that would take is why it needs to not be live television. If you meant a different question, please clarify.

I have been transfixed by these hearings. Was about 12 when the Watergate hearings were going on. Still remember the moment Nixon announced his resignation, was stacking hay in the barn, the day before dad's birthday, actually resigned on dad's birthday. Today, like was said, Watergate was a cub scout meeting compared to this. I am generally against the death penalty, but I would not shed a tear if the normal punishment for treason would be used in this case. HE (Trump) is evil and narcissistic.

he's a terrible person. and every person, particularly evangelicals, who voted for him, should repent that vote, and never do it again.

I would agree they should not agree to public testimony. LOL...Why not in public on camera? What harm would it do? Is it because then they can edit the testimony to their agenda? Pick out just bits and pieces? The only reason for this hearing is to keep Trump from running again. Sure, Trump acted badly. No question. If the Republicans win big in Nov, I hope there will be investigations on why Pelosi and the Capitol police didn't ask for Federal troops since they knew days before of possible riot. As I said before, the rioters should have been arrested, maced and or shot for invading the Capitol.
Last month I watched the 50th anniversary of the Nixon Watergate hearings. The hearings were on all networks all day. I learned things I didn't know. Watch it if you haven't. Very enlightening. I was hoping these hearings would be like the Watergate hearings. These hearings are just a fund raiser for the Democratic Party.

Enough with pelosi and the Capitol police. This is 100% in Trump. We have never had a sitting president try to overthrow an election, nor have we not had a peaceful transfer of power. You are doing the same thing people do to rape victims; did you lead him on, what were you wearing, etc. we need to focus on the person who did the wrongdoing. If not for trumps actions, you wouldn’t care one wit about the Capitol police. That is what you should be worrying about. You also conveniently leave out trumps refusal to call the national guard in yo control this. Do you have any comment on that, or is it ok because it was trumps responsibility?

I don't think he refused. I believe he asked Pelosi's office who is in charge of Capitol security by the way, if they wanted Federal help. They didn't act on it. All of the hearings should be public regardless of the time constraints. It didn't hold the Watergate hearings back. because he could make a mockery of the proceedings, of course. you don't allow a known disruptor to disrupt if you have a good guess that is what he is going to do, rip. it is just that simple.

there is a distinct difference between Watergate and this. there was no insurrection involved in Watergate. this has a whole other dimension to it that requires extra care. if Bannon cooperates in his TAPED testimony, it will become public. i guarantee it. if not, he can go to Jail for contempt of court, and failure to respond to a lawful summons.

I remember debunking this claim some months ago, but do not recall who or where it was posted. I hope it wasn't you, because if it was that would demonstrate either that you learned nothing or that you don't care if you spout lies and nonsense. Nancy Pelosi's office is not in charge of Capitol security. The claim started as a Facebook post, which was then flagged (and maybe deleted?) for violating rules on misinformation.

when truth and justice are campaign commercial for your opposition, it is time to change sides. I hate the intentional willful blindness and hypocrisy. A young black child acts badly towards a police officer and one poster is OK with them dying before 18, even if they were taught that by their parents/dad/community. Yet a white kid grows up trained to be an asshole to authority and its almost OK to some of these people he tried to overthrow the duly elected government and got his followers to actually hurt and kill some police. Destroy valuable pieces of art and furniture belonging to the American people and it elicits almost a ho hum. If Obama had pulled this shit (he would never be so stupid and selfish), Trumpers would have called for him to be hanged. But because Trump trained them to excuse all his worst excesses, they keep their blinders on and sink into further moral decay.

excellent post, Opt. indeed, this is an extension of privilege. the fact that you think YOU ARE RIGHT doesn't make your crimes any better.
sorry, it just doesn't. in a way, it makes them worse. the fact that you actually believe that bullshit means that you can never be trusted in public again.
this is a Me Too moment for the political right. it is time to call them out, not call them in.

Impressive. You continue to miss the point and blame the victim: by doing so you downplay the severity of the issue. If trump wasn’t a toddler and admitted he lost, none of this would have happened. This is 100% on trump and his enablers. Then, when there was a full scale riot, multiple members of congress and Pence asked Trump to call in the national guard, he refused. A clear dereliction of duty. Like a true conservative, you want to place blame everywhere but where it belongs

All I can say is thank six pound, ten ounce baby Jesus ripvanwinkle doesn't write our American history. To shift the blame onto Nahcy Pelosi is ludicrous. It was trump's rally members who attacked the Capitol while Pelosi and the rest of our members of Congress were conducting America's business. It was not Pelosi's rally. trump ordered up the rally. Trump knew some of the rally members had weapons, including firearms. Where was the Secret Service protecting trump. Where was the security who were required to keep the peace at the rally? These security people should have urged trump to call for more security once trump ordered the crowd to march to the Capitol building. Instead of asking for more security to protect the Capitol, trump was throwing tantrums because the Secret Service would not allow him to go to the Capitol and so they drove him back to the White House and he did nothing. Nothing at all. The failures all fall on trump's shoulders. When he should have been acting presidential, Trump instead acted like an immature, pissant loser. History will not be kind to the 45th president of the United States. And nor should it.

So last hearing Cheney ended with a caution against witness tampering.
This hearing, she ended by saying very bluntly that Trump himself attempted to contact a witness we haven’t heard from yet.
She said the DOJ was alerted.
Witness tampering?
If so, will DOJ do anything about it?

Trump could have made the call on a throw away cellphone so there would be no history of a call made.

Pelosi? Why does the GOP keep blaming Pelosi? It's ludicrous. Trump has repeatedly blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for blocking some 10,000 members of the Guard that day. But Pelosi has no control or jurisdiction over the National Guard in the District of Columbia. Trump does. ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/gop-slapped-down-again-jan-041257259.html...and 'acted badly?' Staging a coup d'etat akin to a banana republic is not 'acting badly'. That's like saying Pol Pot 'acted badly". It was treason, pure and simple.

It’s either Pelosi or, according to my SIL, ANTIFA that did the whole thing. Won’t watch the committee hearings because they are lies, more lies and damn lies. For a good 30% of the country, this is a ‘put your fingers in your ears and go lalala’ moment.

I believe he asked Pelosi's office who is in charge of Capitol security by the way, if they wanted Federal help. . you don't think? ok. what do you KNOW? some proof would be good right now, because I THINK that the LAST thing Trump wanted to do is have the NG shooting at his "patriots". therefore, i am betting that this conversation NEVER TOOK PLACE.
