@pinkcshmere Fish and company stink after three days, right? So food after three days...well, not for me, either. DD's with me on that, but she doesn't bother to pitch it until it's time to clean her fridge. Sometimes there's stuff in there that is growing mold on it by the time she gets around to tossing it.

I'm trying to remember what I need to stock up on, since it has been so long since I have operated normally. I have been having no trouble finding TP, paper towels, or Kleenex...but those limits. so basically, any time I walk into a store, I'm buying a package of at least the TP/PT. my Walmart order last week had included a 6pk that was shown as available when I ordered. they subbed three 2pks, which had I gone in, wouldn't have been allowed. I figure that I'm going to lay low most of the winter in general, it won't go to waste. I wouldn't mind finding a small chest freezer, like I had in the last house and sold to my buyer. the kitchen fridge here has a weird freezer layout, and large stuff doesn't work well in it. I scored a 5 cubic foot chest freezer online at Baron’s in Salem, New Hampshire. It took 5 weeks to come in, but that turned out to be much faster than the website originally predicted. I went with one that had a high rating on Consumer Reports: GE Model No. FCM5SKWW. that's a bit of a hike, but could be worth it for the price. I had gotten the last one for $40 on the local FB yard sale page. can I ask what you paid? I don't know the volume of my old unit, but have a general idea of dimensions

Sam's Club has the freezers online and in my local store. I don't think we have Sams Clubs around here anymore. the only one I knew of was in my hometown, and that's been closed easily 10y now. but thanks!

DBF is on the hunt for a freezer again.
I’ve been saying for the last few weeks that I wanted to stock up on some things, but we never did it. I actually haven’t been shopping much at all, which means that we’re also working through the surplus we already had. It’s just my habit to buy multiples of certain household supplies and food items when I catch a deal, just because I don’t like running out of things I need and use on a consistent basis, and I don’t like paying full price if I don’t have to. That habit saved my butt with some things that became scarce back in the spring.
My small pantry is full, freezer is more than half full, and I can clean my house, wipe my butt with toilet tissue, and do my laundry for about a month, if I don’t get to a store.

I badgered DD for years to buy a freezer when the kids were little and still at home. Now DGS is gone, DGD only eats drive-thru food. Actually, DD/DSIL rarely eat real food, either. Still, a freezer would save having to make so many trips to Publix or Walmart. Heck, you can even freeze milk.
If she decided now to buy a freezer, she'd pretty much be out of luck because they're in short supply and take weeks to get after ordering.
She has a side-by-side fridge/freezer. Freezers in a side-by-side are a PITA and don't hold much. I have a top freezer in my fridge that holds more than hers does.

So, I apparently had some undiagnosed PTSD from March that revealed itself in this past weekend’s grocery shopping. I clearly have unacknowledged anxiety about my toilet paper supply. Somehow, shopping at 4 different places, I managed to accumulate...104 rolls of TP!!!! That’s more than we use in a year!!! 😂😂 Maybe I can use it to barter for other things if the poop hits the fan this Winter...
😂😂😂 May I suggest you use the tp to clean off your fan rather than bartering with it

I don't know if they will do it this year, but Home Depot usually has small freezers on Black Friday for under $100. I bought one last year for $70.

ooh, good idea. I'll watch out for that flyer when it hits my email inbox. HD is actually probably the closest brick and mortar store for me, if you don't count the 7-11.

Back in March, I was caught off guard by the tp shortage. Luckily I was able to get a pkg from DD2 which was enough to get me by until I could buy more. This time, I have 2 extra pkgs on hand, just in case.
The store I shop at has been out of a few brands I prefer, but it hasn't been a big deal.

I'd probably buy it if you find a freezer anytime. From what I understand, getting one is still difficult in some areas of the US.

It sucks to have a fully loaded freezer crap out on you and not to find out until everything is thawed and smelling...🤢

Not too long ago, DBF and I were in Home Depot and they had some. No variety, just one option. But we looked for some locally and online back in the spring, and couldn’t find one anywhere so we were surprised to finally see those. But we were in Home Depot for something else and DBF doesn’t do well with impulse purchases that cost more than a few dollars, so we didn’t get it. Even though, in my mind it wouldn’t have really been an impulse purchase as long as we made sure it was suitable for our needs, since we decided months ago to get one. Now he’s looking again and not having much luck. We probably should’ve seriously considered buying what we saw in Home Depot.

I never thought of that for appliances before!" I know. none that I have ever purchased have come from there. but I do get electronic flyers, so that's easy enough.

I made a Target run this morning. We needed dog food and coffee filters. Since I needed to get those 2 items, I figured I might as well get some of the things I’d been feeling like I should try to stock up on at least a little, especially since we’ve been going through the extras I’d already built up. So I got another package of our preferred toilet paper. We now have 6 packages, and 2 large packages of other decent brands that we bought when that was our only option a few months ago. We managed to not have to open either package, so they remain as our emergency supply. I bought a package of paper towels, which is the only “extra” for that. And some more laundry detergent, fabric softener and bleach, since it was spend $40 and get a $10 GC. Well, honestly, I probably would’ve bought it anyway. They had a deep conditioner I use on sale for $12 and some change. It’s normally $18. I bought 2, and got a free 8oz Suave hand sanitizer for spending $20 or more in “beauty”. And on and on, until I somehow spent $200 in Target this morning. But at least now it won’t be constantly tumbling around in the back of my mind that I *should* go buy some of those things, like it has been for weeks now.

I am really struggling between the urge to restock and the urge to pare down my supplies because we are planning to move within the next month. I have an embarrassing amount of some supplies, which I plan to move myself before any of my husband's friends show up to help. But my meat supplies are down to a couple months' worth. I would be restocking the freezer at this point, except for the knowledge that I really can't move the meat myself in advance like I can the paper products.

I know I have over 200 rolls of TP and more, won't be buying any for some time. I just received the last 80 roll case today.
I fear if trump gets back in.

Made a Target run yesterday. No problem getting the brand TP we like. I specifically went for laundry detergent (spend $40, get $10 GC). Only ended up spending $80, which is way low.

If Trump steals this election or there really are this many racist/bigoted people in this country, you can count on a civil war. I used to think it was a stupid concept. At this point, I would go join. Why not, my life will be complete shit otherwise.

When trump is declared president for life by his SCOTUS, you'll need more than 200 rolls of TP.

I haven't been able to find wheat bran since March. Very weird. I'd posted about it earlier; I like to add it to yogurt and have been substituting Grape-Nuts (for texture and a little fiber but not extra sugar).
I wonder if it's just one of the items some suppliers decided to eliminate from their product lines. I'm sure I could get it on-line but it's not worth paying the shipping.

on the small chest freezer thing: it might be a "seasonal" thing as in a late summer/fall thing. Kind of like how the new model of lawn mower comes out in the early spring and that's often when there are "sales" and there are lots of models/brands to choose from on the display floor. If you shop for a lawn mower in the late summer/early fall - you might get a fantastic price - but you might have to go to the back of the store to find one and then only have a a couple to choose from (or only floor models or the ones in dented beat up boxes that no one wanted to take a chance on).

GRG a/k/a goldenrulegirl , now I'm feeling totally inadequate and precarious! We only have 50 rolls of toilet paper! I hope you're happy, gloating behind your huge pile of toilet paper!

Afternoon ladies & gentleman.... I went shopping after my hair cut today. There are 2 of us...I have the bottom freezer on my fridge, an upright freezer that holds mostly veggies, bread & other misc. frozen foods...and a chest freezer that has our milk, fruit & nuts in the baskets and meats. In our cottage, there is a small upright freezer...something like 5 or 7 cu.ft. We got that when my son & DIL were living in the cottage while he was between jobs. I think we got it at Sam's & it was less than $200. Since we live rural, I couldn't do without my freezers. I also used to garden & froze a LOT of our veggies. If I can manage it next spring...I'll plant a few things, especially tomatoes. Would love to have my french breakfast radishes & Burpee's short'n'sweet carrots...those are the best ever carrots.
I did pretty good with my shopping today...just over $100 and I now have most things for the Thanksgiving dinner for us too.
ETA...Forgot, just before the last toilet tissue/paper towel shortage...I had ordered cases from Amazon. We are still pretty well supplied. If I run low, I'll order from them again. Think there are about 50 rolls of toilet tissue & about 15-20 rolls of paper towels left yet.

I'm pretty in good shape, stocked up. And no matter what happens, should be ok.
The mandarin oranges I canned are good. I'm happy, never did something like those before. They were real easy. Only hard part was getting the veins and pith off. They peeled easy though. I got another bag just for eating. Canned 11, 1/2 pints of them with very light syrup.

Can you switch over to flax seeds? Even Aldi usually has that on the shelf. Yeah, that's a good option and I have them- just puzzled about what happened to the bran.
