One of the things I read about, maybe here, is get some tubing. Large in diameter as a carpet carrier or PVC pipe, maybe 4' long, and make up small bags of candy. We'll sit an end of driveway and slide the bags down the tube to the kids bags.
Our small town usually puts on a TOT night downtown complete with photo booth, businesses handing out stuff, costume contest, etc. Cancelled this year so we might get a few kids.
We are prepared ......... already have the candy from Costco and it's still unopened. lol

We have so many kids who live around here, that I have bought candy. But, I haven't yet decided on a "delivery" system. Such a strange year this is!

We are doing an honor bowl. My DD is sad because she loves handing out candy but I’m just now willing to take the risk. An honor bowl will still allow the kids to get their candy but we won’t have to expose ourselves to possible exposure.

Our church is doing a trunk r treat in their parking lot which I would love to participate in but right now I just see those kiddos as disease vectors. Plus in our heavily GOP small town most won’t be wearing masks.
So I’ll hold out for next year and put out on honor bowl.

There was a trunk or treat event sponsored by first responders. The pictures I saw it was crowded and not a many masks. The health department put out a notice that someone at the event tested positive this week. All who attended should monitor for symptoms. Curious to see what happens to the county numbers. They were coming down.

We live in a very rural spot so no trick or treaters out here.

Nah, I love brussels sprouts.
Actually they are pretty good roasted. Takes the bitterness out of them. My paternal grandparents were born in the U.S. but their older siblings, parents, grand-parents, etc. were born in Quebec, Canada. So French and English was spoken in their home in Massachusetts. When we grandkids were small, my grandmother's term of endearment for us was 'Ma petit chou', or 'My little cabbage'.

Well, after Trump brought his covidfest rally to my town a week and a half ago, case numbers are skyrocketing, and my hopes for Halloween 🎃 are diminished. Nixing the T-or-T, and also passing out candy to the kids partaking. We may go to a drive-through trunk or treat, and just try to have fun together at home. Lizard King doesn't even want to chance the drive-thru, so I'm not even sure about that. I feel bad for the kids. Even the year that it was considered to risky to trick-or-treat when I was a kid, there was at least a house party to go to instead.

We usually get around 250 kids. This year it isn't being promoted like in the past. We will keep our lights out and not give out candy.

I can't imagine I would get a lot of kids in this new place, even without COVID. I'm not putting my lights on, and might actually hang some old curtains I used for packing blankets that I havent yet pitched, to block what interior light I have on. I have a ticket to a streaming concert for later that night, thats my plan for the evening. mooch might come by, he loves the band, too.

Apparently my county is yellow and has the lowest new cases per 100k in the entire state. I believe officially for the city Trick or Treat is canceled. They had a Facebook post awhile ago that all usual remaining events for the city are canceled for 2020.
I've seen posts that some neighborhoods say they are doing it. I plan to make treat trays for DH's family. If I pick a paint color, I think DH is going to paint the half bath Saturday. And there's football.
DH's sister that moved to Florida was the one who had the Halloween party. The local mini golf course is doing stuff and an outdoor movie. I'm sure they will be packed. We have a projector and screen so we could do that at home. Maybe we'll break in the fire pit and do a movie with the neighbors. They can watch from their deck.

Well, I bought a 150-piece bag of mini candy bars form Costco so they better show up. I've decided to put them out 24 at a time, 8 clusters of 3 each. I'm sure they'll get picked over by the first to arrive every time and the Reese's Cups will go first! I'll replenish occasionally. If someone gets piggy and grabs all that's there, at least it won't be a giant bowl full.
Clear weather predicted Saturday, low of 39. I do NOT want to have tons of leftovers! I'm pretty good about enjoying one daily (I put them in a cupboard I rarely access)- last year the leftovers lasted past Christmas.

We will not be passing candy out this year. DH doesn't want to. We typically get 100-150 kids. I definitely expect the numbers to be down.
DS#2 is 12 and wants to go trick or treating, so him and a friend are going to venture out. I'm not expecting him to come back with a lot of candy.

I got maybe 1/3 of my usual number of kids last night. I put the candy out and periodically replenished it and was happy to see that no one took the whole supply. Every time I went out to add more there were a few bars left.
SO now I have a ton of leftovers. In the old days you put them on the office breakroom. Not anymore-and I'm retired so it's not a solution for me anyway. Last year I was pretty good at enjoying one per day till they were gone.

We got no kids last night. We thought we might see the renter come over with hers, but they must have gone into town for the celebration. Or she may have just kept them at home. Thank goodness DH got only one bag. We both dove into it last night.

That way nothing is waste if not all is taken by kids on Hallow's Eve.

We worked. Sales were at $800 when we left I am curious how much more it ended at.
Then did a bit of TOT. Not a lot of houses but those that were gave out fistful and we scored several full size candy bars.
Then we went Cosmic bowling and had a blast. Played three full games. Gwen won the costume contest. She was thrilled because she worked pretty hard on her costume this year and the kid deserved a win with all the crazy this year to date.
Abby managed to almost win all three games. The kid cracked me up with how competitive she got.
So sore this morning.

I was surprised by the amount of neighbors who were participating. We ended up going to DH's sister house and getting take out. His parents came over. It made for easy delivery of the treat trays.
I had to go get gas in the car before we went to his sister's. I was shocked at the number of people out and very few masks. Typically when it's on a weekend this neighborhood gets slammed. It was a little lower but way busier than I thought considering it was officially canceled by the city. Some neighbors did have tables set up and the candy laid out.
DH was in agreement no passing out candy this year.

I have to admit I feel a bit guilty- I'd bought a bag of assorted mini-candy bars and the ones I put out were the ones I liked least. I'm left mostly with Reese's Cups and Snickers bars.

My neighbors had the Friday night "our kids only" trick or treat night, and then most homes went dark on Halloween.
The Facebook page is flooded with praise and how wonderful it was to 'just be us' and we should have by invite only trick or treating every year on the 30th.
I am not super crazy about the change in the vibe of my beloved neighborhood. The newer residents are uptight, and I think they are creating a "white only" Halloween that doesn't sit right with me.
I guess we will see if this gains traction. Having two Halloweens on Friday and Saturday is very different from doing two Halloweens on Tuesday and Wednesday. My husband said if they are successful, we will start giving out full bars on the 31st.

How will they hear the movie? I’m looking for solutions to that one... We have a pretty good soundbar and another thing that I think is a subwoofer. DH has pondered out loud about setting up wireless bluetooth speakers at the back of our driveway to create surround sound. He's streaming the movie from his phone which I guess would 'easily' bluetooth to them. Really the main soundbar is pretty good except when too much traffic goes by at once. We have it up pretty loud but I've walked the surrounding block and it's not as loud for the neighbors as I would have expected. Plus, we've invited most of them to watch something a time or two And, we're wrapped up by 10 at the latest since our oldest is 12. We start as soon as it gets dark and have taken to showing 'previews' in the dusk - previews being america's funniest videos which keeps the kids laughing while we complete setup. Hoping to squeeze in one last show or two this weekend as we'll creep back up to 70!

We did trunk or treat in our church parking lot again this year. The weather was perfect and we had between 500-600 kids come through.
Almost everyone was spaced apart by family group, and more than in years past, people were polite and kind. If this is what the future holds, I’m all for it.

How will they hear the movie? I’m looking for solutions to that one... We have a projector that we do all kinds if stuff with. Usually on Halloween we hang a sheet across our carport and project Halloween related music videos. We have had movies in our friends backyard with chairs and blankets. We have dive-in theater every summer (multiple times) where we all float in the pool. When we used to have big Superbowl parties you could sit on the back patio next to our heater and watch the game. It isnt great quality for sports - grainy and the blowing sheet loses some definition. Animation is the best thing to watch on a bedsheet. We bought a speaker from Costco a few years ago. The brand is pathfinder, and is something like this, but this must be a newer model. The price is somewhat similar. It has worked really well for us, except one time we streamed a movie and couldn't get the sound loud enough. It was weird, because we have used the exact same set up and streaming service several times and that was the only time that it just barely reached the volume we needed. www.costco.com/ion-pathfinder-4-bluetooth-portable-speaker-with-wireless-qi-charging.product.100534848.html
