Halloween- What are your Plans?

So, one of these days I have to figure out how much candy to buy.  I have no idea how trick-or-treating will change his year. No word from the local authorities but that doesn't surprise me- we're more than a month out and things can change quickly.  

I don't have much concern about risks to me.  Very brief encounters with kids, outside, most will be masked (even Halloween-type can provide some protection) and I intend to hand candy out from a bowl, maybe even with salad tongs.  (I may have to practice.)  Even if one were to cough or sneeze, the faces of the shorter kids would be nowhere near my face.  I've read suggestions that you just put a bowl out on the doorstep but I know darn well there will be kids who empty it, especially when the teenagers are out.  I don't like greed and don't want to enable it.  It could also spread the virus since multiple hands will be in it.

From the parents' side-  I can see them wanting to provide some sense of normalcy.  The very cautious ones could "quarantine" the candy for a few days- most is wrapped, anyway.

What do you think?  The same amount of candy as last year, or less?

I have no clue.   Given the attitude around here I doubt Halloween will be "canceled" but DH and I aren't super keen on the idea of the kids doing TOT.  We have already agreed we won't be handing out candy but trying to explain to the kids they can't go to other houses is tough.   We're gently coaching them about it right now with a potential harder line taken on it as time progresses.  

I don't know if the school will do the trunk or treat.  Personally I think if they are worried about COVID a parade like they did at the end of school would work.  The kids can be costumed in the car while the teachers toss candy from the sidewalk.

Ive seen pics on FB of people setting up a pvc tube (decorating it) where they can put the candy in one end, and the kids puts they're bucket under the lower end to catch the candy. Where there's a will, there's a way. I think it can absolutely be done in a safe way, but deniers can always show up to throw a wrench in the works, too.

I'm waiting to see what my city does about TOT. My nurse friend may still hold a much smaller party outside/ in her garage, too. We would go if she doesn't invite a bunch of the crazy docs/nurses that usually show up. In the past, it was a few of us close friends, helping with the party for her kids. The crazy docs/nurses substitution wasn't an improvement, IMO.

I doubt that TOT will be on here but I'm going to get some candy just in case.  I'm 100% going to answer the door (mask on!) if they are out and about.  Or maybe just put a big bowl in a chair on the porch with a bilingual sign saying "take only two pieces of candy, please"

I'm not sure what we'll do with the kids. If the numbers keep trending, we'll be staying at home.

For the last several years we've put out a bowl of candy at end of driveway and in the morning it's still full.

The party the town puts on has been cancelled so maybe we'll get a few kids.  Our neighborhood is mostly empty nesters so any kids will be from out of area.

Our local theater is putting on a drive-in type show of  Monster Mash type of songs so we might go there.   Something different and will be fun.

I think my neighborhood is kinda being elitist about it. There is discussion that we will ToT with just the residents on Friday, and then go dark on Saturday. Basically assuming all neighbors are clean (including the children who will be back in school for the first time from mid-October) and the people we should really be afraid of are **those** people.

However, we made plans to go camping long before quarantine started. So, we won't be here either night, so I don't have to confront my own classism. I might have done one of the log delivery tubes if we were going to be here. Not sure how, as we don't have a raised porch. We could do it from the roof? Or sit on tall barstools and make the kids squat?

My parish's annual Bazaar is Nov. 1.   We usually have a turkey meal, kids games, bingo, etc.   This year a local restaurant will do the meal for pick up and then people can come to the church parking lot to eat their meal, do parking lot bingo and people will be setting up "trunk or treat", so decorating their  trunks and giving out candy (gloved hands) to kids as they go from trunk to trunk

No idea. We've told the kids we'll make sure everyone has plenty of candy regardless of what we do.

We've done a halloween party for the kids for years too that we hate to skip. We have a lot of kids on the block who play together still so we may do a very small party this year. I'm not sure what outdoor activities we could do that wouldnt have the kids on top of each other and wouldnt take up a ton of planning and set up. Nerf guns maybe.

I bought lots of candy the first year I lived here.  One kid came.  Bought less candy the next year.  No kids.

Since then I don't buy candy and I leave the porch light off.

My church does Trunk or Treat every year but this year may be an exception.  We were still considering it but a member just tested positive for COVID-19 and his wife is showing symptoms.  We've had in-person services since 5/31 with a ton of precautions so I don't think it came from other church members, but I think it still shook everyone up.

I do have a Halloween tradition of watching Jimmy Kimmel the night of November 1st when he has a recap video of parents filming their kids as they tell them they ate all of their kids' Halloween candy.

At the moment, our plan: 
We will set up our yard with our 35+ inflatables and decorations. 
We live in a cul-de-sac, and people often drive around it throughout the month of October. 
In our county, we have never broken 30 cases per 100,000 in a three week rolling period. Our test positivity rate has only broken 2% one week. I'm grateful that our county has such few cases, so we can still entertain the idea of a semi-regular Halloween. 
I will make Halloween treat bags and have baskets of them out on the sidewalk. DH and I will sit on the porch and wave and talk to ToTers.

Technically, Halloween is still on here, although we're being told "Stay home, stay home, stay home!" 
Doesn't matter to me....my building has a locked lobby and we didn't get kids last year. I did buy some candy for a few little kids in the building.....cutest little things from Camaroon. Just adorable.

We're out on a country road, so no ToT here.

There's usually a Halloween party at the village firehall, but state govt is really saying no to gatherings, so I'm guessing that's off. DS5 is 15, so he's over ToT anyways.

We're racking our brains on how to do Halloween at the library. The Mischief Night party we've done for a few years is out (lots of hands-on activities). Love the idea of drive in event, but we have zero outdoor lot area. Even if we had space, our movie showing permit forbids outdoor performances. Those are a huge violation no-no. I heard something about zoom style costume shows, though.

Our house is not connected to a sidewalk and is a bit isolated so we don't get trick or treaters.

We live at the end of a dead end street with few houses on it.  We normally don’t get many TOTers.  Last year, I forgot altogether and asked TD to stop on his way home from work.  He brought home 2 huge bags of chocolate.  I think I will pick up a single small bag to have on hand.

Last year was our first in KY. Before that in AL our house was on a street where we go 0-5 trick or treaters per year.

Last year TOT was moved from Thurs to Sat afternoon due to weather, and it was huge. I had candy for 200 and ran out early. This year have heard TOT is on, but I am waiting to buy candy until I get a better idea what is going on. Don’t want to have too much left over.

We get 10 or 15 kids, so I like to have something ready.  This year I think I will make goody bags with candy and pencils and stickers for the kids.  I can put the goody bags on the porch and when the kids ring the bell, I can answer the door and interact through the storm door.  No contact candy! I love Halloween, always have.
