We've always lived very rural so never any ToT kiddos. My YDD22, lives in town and gets a kick out of the kids that come by. She has said over the last few years the numbers have dropped significantly. When my girls were little, it was non-stop ToT and some even rang the bell 'after hours' looking for that last treat before heading home. No word from her if her town will have ToT this year though.

I usually go to my grandmother's in town to hand out candy with her, but doubt I'll go this year. I may pay for candy and recommend she just sit out a bowl and watch the kids in costumes from her window.

I'm gonna dress up like trump and go door to door borrowing money, offering deeds to real estate in Manhattan as collateral.

There is something out there that says Halloween before the election has been totally accurate at predicting the winner. Whoever has more people impersonating them, wins. Biden costumes for everyone!!!!

It is hit or miss in my neighborhood. I'm on the outer edge so one year I got a ton of kids that all came as one giant mob moving around the neighborhood, and the other year I got like 5 little kids scattered over an hour.
I'll have some candy. Not nearly as much as I did last year since I don't need to eat it either. Maybe 2 bags. If I get cleaned out I'll just turn off the light.

This will be no different from any other Halloween. I will turn off the outdoor lights and wait until it is over, then turn them back on. I live at the bottom of a very loooong driveway, surrounded by trees and am largely unnoticeable. Very few treat seekers likely even know I'm here. In any event, I live by myself in a fairly secluded location, so I mostly try to avoid attracting masked strangers in groups after dark. Also, we have bears.

Super hoping ToT is not happening this year. Maybe I better get 1 bag in case?

I've had a few favorites over the years when we TOT. One was a girl dressed as a working stoplight. Another was a girl that decided to be a purple minion for Halloween, her dad told me I was the only one who figured it out without asking. She was pretty tickled. The other was this little toddler boy that came up dressed in a 3 piece suit with a brief case. Turns out daddy is a laywer and he wanted to dress like him for Halloween. My heart nearly exploded.

My all-time favorite was a friend years ago who made himself into an old-fashioned flush toilet with the water tank above the seat. When he sat down, there was a lid covering his lap to represent the toilet. There was even a chain hanging from the tank.
Another good one was a friend who cut the legs off a pair of Goodwill men's pants and attached them above the knee with elastic. He wore a trench coat and sewed the cuffs from a dress shirt inside the sleeves of the coat, made a dickey from the front of the shirt and wore a tie with it. A pair of dress shoes...outfit complete. Unzip the coat and he was nekkid with his manly bits discretely covered by a black jock strap.

Working on kids costumes this weekend. Dd is going as a pirate and has her own very unique style so it will be interesting. Ds is dressin up as catalyst from fortnite. Im going to drag him to goodwill to see if we can find a jacket that would work and if we cant I'm going to buy the costume for $120 online. Makes me sick but I dont have much energy for diy right now.
We're busting out previous years decorations. I made 2 witches and a tree for our bay windows a few years ago, and we're putting up the harry potter decorations inside. No party or ToT this year but we are going to put together goody bags for the neighbor kids and maybe some school friends too and deliver those.

We've gotten literally hundreds of TOTers in past years: a close neighborhood with lots and lots of families. This year--I dunno. The neighborhood consensus is that people need to identify the level of risk they're willing to assume and act accordingly. I will probably put out a table by the end of my walkway with a bowl filled with candy and a sign to take one. I buy full-size bars, because. I'll stand by to wave and supervise. DH will stay in the house. That's the current plan anyway. I do expect we'll either have many fewer TOTers or many more, as they come from bordering neighborhoods. We'll see.
I had two middle-school boys last year dressed as carolers who actually sang a rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. They got two pieces each.

My town is leaving ToT up to the people. That means that at least the majority of my neighborhood will be out because they are hard core Trumpers who don't care. I still probably won't participate this year unless I can figure out a way to chain DH's stupid M&M to the house so it won't roll off with someone. We put the candy in in and let the buggers pick it out. They love it.

If you have a big tree, you could tie a string around candy and then hang them from all the branches, and kids could come along and just grab the candy.
Or maybe put a pvc pipe across your driveway or yard or whatever and hand candy from that.

I don't know what our town is doing. I'll do what I always do, turn the lights off and block the gate with my car. DD1 says it's a stupid year to ToT and I agree. I never liked it anyway, even when the kits were little. No reason, just not my thing.

I never did, either- it's gone way beyond what we had as a kid, with parents driving their kids all over the place. We lived on a cul-de-sac with maybe 15 houses and that's as far as we went. Kids get way more candy and other junk than they should have- and whom do the couples carrying a costumed 6-month old think they're fooling? Yeah, bah, humbug. I still cheerfully hand out candy anyway.

We have had very few known cases in my region. The Premier is recommending not TOT budget I don't know what parents will decide around here. We usually get around 75 kids. I'll put out our jack o lantern, turn on the light, wear a mask, use tongs and give out candy. If no one shows up we will eat the candy. I hope the kids show up.

I love halloween. I have a hard time reigning myself in. I think we'll fill our goody bags with hot chocolate, popcorn ball, and some halloween decorated sugar cookies. We'll reverse trick or treat those to friends and family on Saturday and maybe do a candy scavenger hunt for our kids before settling in to watch a movie.
We're also huge scaredy cats and even nightmare before christmas is too scary for my youngest. I'm thinking hocus pocus maybe? Ill have to watch it first.

I found some glow in the dark Easter eggs in a box so I'm thinking I'll put some candy in them and put them on a Halloween plate I have. I still don't think I'll be able to handle face to face this year. But hey! At least I won't be sloppily drunk and waving around a vodka bottle as I kind of really wish I could be.

Y'all usually can bridge the gap for me when I don't get something. I have heard a lot of talk of solutions such as small bags of candy on a table, etc. How is that different than putting one or two pieces of candy, but spread them out? Why the extra bag?
This might be a good year to go full bars.

In my 17 years in this place I have yet to see a single ToTer here, so I don't plan on doing anything. However, since DS2 and his fsmily moved to Germany almost four years ago I have put together a Halloween box and send that off to them. Yesterday the box was mailed so from my POV Halloween is over for the year

Just heard about this from someone at church. www.halloween2020.org/It's far more area-specific and is updated, and provides activities based on risk level. My area is Red but I'm in a suburb in the county which includes Kansas City so it's not a homogeneous area. Still more useful than blanket "Don't do it" warnings.

I got out of the habit of preparing for kids on Halloween when I worked evenings for 13 years.
Last Halloween, the first in our new house, DBF’s kids wanted candy for trick or treaters. We obliged. When the doorbell finally rang, it was DBF’s teens going out one door, around to the front door and ringing the doorbell, “trick or treating “ because they were bored. Other than that, not 1 kid rang our doorbell.
Given where our house is located, I can understand why the kids don’t bother coming here.
I’ll probably buy some candy, just in case. But I’m also good with turning the exterior lights off if DBF prefers. If we don’t have the exterior lights on, you can’t even see our house from the street that our cove is off of. There’s only 1 street light in the cove, and it’s not near our house. Our old neighbors that lived in the only other house in the cove never turned their exterior lights on. If I was out for ToT, I probably wouldn’t come in this dark ass cove either.
If we do buy candy, I’ll it in a big bowl for whatever kids might come by to help themselves. I don’t feel like it would be a big risk for me, opening the door and letting kids grab what they want out of a bowl. I’m taller than most kids of ToT age, so we shouldn’t be breathing in each other’s faces, and hopefully the outdoor air will dilute whatever germs we might be expelling and inhaling.

I have not participated in trick or treat for many years. It is still on for my neighborhood and there are many children. I do not think I will be participating. i work at a college and I know trick or treat in the halls will not be happening this year. (it was set up for local families and alumni in the area with young children).
