I'm pretty sure no one wants to hear what I have to say, but I'm saying it any way.
DT up there giving "briefings"? ….many of us don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth after 3 1/2+ yrs. of lies. If the task force were the ones doing the briefings, it "might" be a big more believable...but not if it's still just DT's cronies. We need to hear from the experts...the ones who don't bow to DT's wishes of how he wants things to seem...only the ones who tell us the truth.
As Fauci says...what comes out of the WH isn't what is coming from the trenches....we need truth, not more lies from DT!

I listened to today's briefing (available on youtube if you wanted to see it)... 15 minutes of Trump reading information from pieces of paper and 8 minutes of questions.
It was still technically a briefing as Trump did provide information. Was it inspiring? No. Was it a rally? No as he only spent 5 minutes or so saying how wonderful the US was. Was it informative? Well, it was a bunch of numbers and costs. Someone obviously wrote it for him as he paused considerable when he read that Latin America is a hot zone, but people can't tell because there is not enough testing. He still said that the previous administration did not have enough PPE reserves. He also defined "pool testing" and "therapeutic." (BTW, don't make it a drinking game for everytime he says therapeutic.)

Woke up from my afternoon nap, turned on the TV and trump's virus update was on. trump was reading from his scripted speech poorly (as usual) and then went off script bragging how the U.S. was supposedly doing. Turned off the TV after three minutes. I didn't need to hear any more of his nonsense.

Maybe if his ratings numbers go way down, he will quit again. I just wish the experts were on if not daily, at least a couple times a week. And not with info that DT says they have to give...but with actual FACTS!

Trump shatters his own show of responsibility on the pandemicThe idea that President Donald Trump has turned some new leaf and is now maturely leading the fight against the pandemic is yet again being exposed as a pure political play by his own behavior. Trump on Monday launched a fresh push to get states to quickly reopen their economies, ignoring the fact that his previous advice on such lines helped spark a surge of cases in the Sun Belt. Then the President retweeted a video in which a group of doctors make false claims about the virus, including one who says "you don't need masks" because hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug pushed by the President, is a "cure" in combination with several other drugs. Multiple credible scientific studies say the treatment is ineffective against Covid-19. The video, which went viral on YouTube, was later removed by Facebook and Twitter because it spread misinformation. Complete article here: Trump shatters his own show of responsibility on the pandemic

I think it was in the early seventies when I started to notice that they were being used for political posturing. It's been a while since I've seen one, there are better sources.

OMG!! Will this batshittery never end? The president is pushing the coronavirus theories of a Houston doctor who also says sexual visitations by demons and alien DNA are at the root of Americans’ common health concerns. Immanuel, a pediatrician and a religious minister, has a history of making bizarre claims about medical topics and other issues. She has often claimed that gynecological problems like cysts and endometriosis are in fact caused by people having sex in their dreams with demons and witches. She alleges alien DNA is currently used in medical treatments, and that scientists are cooking up a vaccine to prevent people from being religious. And, despite appearing in Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on Monday, she has said that the government is run in part not by humans but by “reptilians” and other aliens. www.thedailybeast.com/stella-immanuel-trumps-new-covid-doctor-believes-in-alien-dna-demon-sperm-and-hydroxychloroquine?ref=wrap

Last week, Trump said Fauci was a "nice guy" in an interview before his interviewer, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports, said the doctor was "on my axe list because every time he talks and says the country should stay inside, my stocks tank."www.cnn.com/2020/07/28/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-briefing/index.htmlEvidently, his stocks take priority over American lives. I watched today's lie-fest briefing. He's STILL pushing hydroxychloroquine, citing the "brilliant" doctor mentioned above. He can't understand why her bat-shit crazy comments were removed from Facebook. Oh, and "I heard that some Americans get cheaper drugs from Canada. That will NEVER happen with me!!" It already happened. Trump Administration to Allow Americans to Get Cheaper Drugs from Canada fortune.com/2019/07/31/us-cheaper-drugs-from-canada/

He reposted that crazy woman's claim, and when Facebook removed the video, kept insisting that the woman in the video is a doctor, and a large group of doctors standing around her, all 'very respected doctors' all talking about how tremendously successful hydroxychloriquine works - and when reporters disputed how 'spectacular' the doctor is, Trump scampered off stage. Don Jr also reposted the video and twitter shut him down for a while for spreading false info about the virus. So much for Trump trying to present a more responsible, medically based update on the virus.

I have to wonder how much time and money has been spent proving that hydroxychloroquine is useless? Time and money that could have been spent elsewhere? Time and time again, studies have shown that it does not help, but very likely can hurt. Anecdote =/= data.

Could Trump's (and family) reposting stuff that the social media outlets quickly removed be some sort of tool for his push to have social media outlets subject to the FCC?
Basically, is he setting up a scenario to help him (and the government) get more control of social media - so they can better push their own agendas in the future? j
Believe me Trump's not just flailing around mindlessly... there's always some purpose to what he's doing...

The thing is......those same people that were supposedly cured could have been taking a Tic Tac and got the same result. In studies where the likelihood of recovery is much greater than death, it is very difficult to tease out small changes. That’s where the statistical power of a study comes into play. Sadly, most clinicians are clueless about setting up actual studies. There is far more that goes into it than most imagine. My name is on a paper for one of these studies, and it is the bane of my existence, as it was one of the last studies I did before I got sick. I did not design the study (it was done in another country) and it was not until I ran the samples and did the statistics that I knew there was something horribly wrong. After I figured out what was done wrong, I offered to rerun it with proper control group and waited a year for her new samples. The clinician chose to go with my original data. My data was good, her study groups were wrong. I got notified about the time I lost my second hip that the paper was being published. At that point, I had more important things to worry about.

My point is that if the drug had a significant effect, if used in a critically ill population, a significant decrease in mortality would be seen. Instead of 60% dying in March, it would have been less. In May, when we weren’t using it, mortality had already decreased to 40%. Well done studies do require the correct design, but when mortality is the end point, it becomes much easier. At best, based on current data, the drug has a modest effect. I doubt this is the case however. Time to move on

(bolded) Like Trump or not, I would really like to see a verifiable source where Trump is stopping research, and not just one cherry picked 'maybe/instance'. There is a lot of research going on right now, even if it's just for the monetary reward through profit, of being first with a viable treatment or vaccine.

Could Trump's (and family) reposting stuff that the social media outlets quickly removed be some sort of tool for his push to have social media outlets subject to the FCC? Basically, is he setting up a scenario to help him (and the government) get more control of social media - so they can better push their own agendas in the future? j Believe me Trump's not just flailing around mindlessly... there's always some purpose to what he's doing... Do you think so? Cause most of the time he acts like a duck hit on the head with a brick, to me. Throwing shit out there to see what sticks- like him floating the idea of delaying the election today. He isn't playing three dimensional chess, he is just eating the pieces" is how one former aide described it.

I'd have sympathy though if there was a duck who had been hit with a brick.
