An update- I just headed over to the polling place this morning. Had to wait about 15 minutes in an outside line but not bad and they made the whole process very easy (computer touch screen, use pen that you could take home, equipped with stylus end for the screen, print ballot at the end, deposit it in ballot box ("Do NOT take your ballot home!").
I noted that my name in the records is my full name including middle. I MAY have signed my Absentee Ballot request without my middle name. Rejecting it for that reason would be legal, I suppose, but nasty, IMO. Anyway- done. Very happy to have it completed and delivered. I've had problems with mail forever- due partly to mail box thefts in the area but even last year when I had a PO Box my property taxes never arrived and I had to access the bills on-line. Best to leave the USPS out of it.

Supreme Court denies GOP bid to block extended mail ballot due date in Pennsylvania
The Supreme Court on Monday left intact an extended mail-in ballot due date in Pennsylvania, handing a major defeat to Republicans. The court's four more conservative justices - Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh - would have halted a lower court ruling from taking effect, strongly suggesting that Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the three liberal justices to form a 4-4 tie that left in place the lower court's decision. Pennsylvania Republicans and top officials from the state's GOP-held legislature had asked the justices to review a state supreme court court ruling that requires election officials to accept ballots postmarked by Election Day, as long as they arrive within three days. The ruling was seen as a win for Democrats in the key battleground state - which President Trump won in 2016 by just over 44,000 votes - since Democratic voters are considered more likely than Trump supporters to vote by mail in November. Marc Elias, a top Democratic election lawyer who has been involved in dozens of election-related lawsuits in the 2020 race, hailed the development. link

Read about California Apparently it’s legal for ‘vote harvesting’, people picking up many ballots from voters and delivering to polls. Democrats have been doing this. So republicans set up ballot collection boxes in churches, gun ranges(!!?), snd other places saying its analogous to ballot pick ups Suggested that both practices be outlawed

Read about California Apparently it’s legal for ‘vote garvesting’, people picking up many ballots from voters and delivering to polls. Democrats have been doing this. So republicans set up ballot collection boxes in churches, gun ranges(!!?), snd other places saying its analogous to ballot pick ups Suggested that both practices be outlawed As a non elected federal official I can not do anything about election laws for a state I do not reside in. So ... our mail in ballots limit the number of ballots a person can legally bear. That person must sign the outer envelope. Our NJ envelopes require ballots not mailed or dropped off by the voter to be signed by the bearer with their printed name and address. Any given person can deliver at most three ballots to a ballot box. Are there issues in the process? Will there be mistakes? Yes and yes. There is no good reason to expect rampant mail vote voter fraud. Until the election is over we won't know how significant or insignificant it will be.

Why do you see it as a mess. From your first link: L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn said later Monday that all the ballots have been accounted for and those voters impacted by the fire are being sent new ballots to fill out. Problem - Problem Solved. There is little chance that the ballot drop box will result in anything other than the state GOP having their hands slapped. It will not impact the vote totals at all.

I guess two weird stories in a short period makes me 🤷♀️ My first reaction was some kid threw a burning paper into the box, but this article makes it seem pretty clear that it had political motivation. I am super happy that they were able to identify all the people whose ballots burned and are getting them replacements.

I have touted Washington's system in the past. The Brookings Institute did a study comparing states' preparedness for mail-in voting during the pandemic. A number of states received "A"s. Washington received a perfect score. Alabama received the only F, and in fact received a negative score. STATE RANKINGS OF VOTE-BY-MAIL PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS

My life was spent in an A state. I now live in a B state.
I know my ballot has been received.

Yes, in Texas, EVERYTHING is bigger so my county exceeded 1 million votes cast yesterday at 3:14 p.m. And we will have eight, 24-hour voting locations going on October 29. Yup, 24 hours of walk-in, drive-through, and curbside voting. That's the way you do it when you are faced with record turnout and want to make sure everyone can vote safely. Plus our Metro bus service is providing free round-trip rides to the polls, now through election day.

STATE RANKINGS OF VOTE-BY-MAIL PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESSI'm surprised NJ ranked so high since the first run was for the primary. I'm going to use the same drop box I did last time.

In Texas we still have drop-box wars being fought in the courts over the governor's order that there be only 1 per county. It's going back and forth with rulings and appeals expected right up to election day. As of now, only 1 per county
